EXCELLENT episode! Saving up $200k beginning...now. All Jays stuff is great, this episode I was naturally drawn to. Thanks, and can't wait to see more.
This really is a good show. Jay Lenos on his back checking out the chassis. I never watched his talk show because so don't watch talk shows but always respected his talent. This car show however, I watch every day. Keep up the good work. Love the show
Lol it looks like a couple gazing at stars, which fits jay as I'm sure he's into all the mechanical components underneath this brilliantly built bronco. Think of the fault of our stars promotional poster.
Hi Jay an English man here, just discovered your channel and love it, now working through all your vids, these appear honest and unscripted which is very refreshing. Love all the vehicles you show, a unique choice and all very cool, and yes keep up the 4x4 stuff.
This Bronco took me back to 1967. Dad had a 289 V8 67 used as a service truck for the service station. We used to hook-up a trailered wrecker for towing and a plow for snow removal. The brakes were non existent, the steering use to wonder, couldn't keep a straight line and it was very noisy at hwy speed maybe it was the BIG lug army Jeep style tires. By the mid 70's it was infected with so much rust it was parted it for the drive train. But honestly I loved it, but mind you at 16 as long that you could drive something you were happy. Thanks for flash-back. Cheers.
Dear Santy Claus.....this is one of the best episodes that Jay has produced. This is one bad-ass Bronco. The attention to detail is phenomenal. The CEO is a pretty cool dude, too.
*When I was 17 back in 1979 I got a job at the local full service gas station, 'Dave Johnson's Phillips 66'. I worked 6 days a week, saved every penny I could for a year, then went hunting for a Ford, Bronco! I found a '74 with a 302-cid that had just been painted and bought her for $3,500... yes, I got screwed! lol... Anyway, she was bright orange, my friends called her 'The Circus Clown Car' lol, but I loved her! I'd give almost anything to have another one, lots of great memories in that Bronco!*
Its actually comical to read the reviews. These types of restoration projects are great to spark passion in the young generation. Its not for the common folk. When you have the kind of money Jay has your living a different kind of life. Not better nor worse, just different. It does inspire some of us to either up our game in life or to simply dream. May the Lord Jesus bless all that read this to find peace in their lives no matter how much money they have.
I have had the pleasure of meeting and working for a few very rich men and some of them were miserable they served money. And then their were those that loved God and and served him. They were always happy and at peace and considered every day a blessing. If you saw them you wouldn't even know they had money. One man John and his Wonderful wife Thelma started out with very little and as they built there little ice cream stand they never forgot there roots. They've both gone home to be with our Lord.
Just gotta be careful to not make money more important because in the end you don't keep it anyway. Lots of cautions in the Bible about the rich and all. Camel, eye of needle etc.
For 20k, you can have one that performs and looks just as good Cecilio Vansen, trust me, mine doesn't have skyscraper glass, but it's just as powerful, good looking, and well setup as this one. Although I love it too, it's pretty sexy.
I'm a huge ICON fan. And these Broncos are so freakin cool. I'm glad you did an episode on them. Awesome video. Love LOVE the sound of that coyote motor. Very burly strong sound.
I'm a Jeeper from way back. What most of the commenters don't understand is that this Bronco is a museum piece. It is a work of art rebuilt by craftsmen who love cars. It is not intended to be driven, much less to be driven off road, it is intended to be preserved to show our grandkids that Detroit Iron makes the world's greatest automobiles. Men like Mr. Leno choose to preserve history through love and devotion invested in something that was designed to last and was not something planned to be obsolete in 3 years. Craftsman restoring America's history with pride precision paid for by a man who could choose to piss his money away on inconsequential pursuits is worthy of respect. At a minimum Mr. Leno's legacy will be a garage full of history that future generations can study and admire. Most of the Hollywood stars will have nothing of substance to show future generations. Keep restoring America's history Mr. Leno, you make us proud.
Nope it won't be, most likely either a 4 cylinder or a small V6. In other words just a rebadged Escape or Explorer with another $10k added to the price for Bronco decals.
miklar1971 Did I hear him right at $150,000 to $200,000? I think I'll stick with doing my own restomod. Who'd want to take it off road at that kind of money.
My first Bronco was a used 1971 loved it. Then spotted a brand new 1974, red with a white top. Paid $6,400.00 and drove it away. Loved that one too. I have, for many years now, wanted to do a build on a early Bronco. I love the Icon Restomod concept with utilizing new components and technology. Very, very nice... oh ya and a bit costly. . However, love it just the same. Great work guys. My next life (lol) for me, maybe. Regards Ken
If they're rich enough to spend that kind of money on one of those, I doubt they'd worry about wrecking it, they'd just go buy another one. These types of vehicles are bought by those who have more money than brains, and no mechanical skills.
Can't really go wrong when you deal with stupid people on a daily basis who have way too much money and absolutely no common sense. No assumption needed, get out in public you'll see what I mean.
I've got an 88 Eddie Bauer Bronco 2 right now, wish I would have held off for a manual though, the A4LD automatics aren't exactly the greatest. I get in the mid 20's for MPG on the highway with it though, so for being a 4WD box going down the highway its not too bad.
god these icon cars are absolutely amazing. if i ever win the lottery jonathan will probably work only for me. my dream garage would just be filled with icon cars
One of the best episodes I have seen... I love it... New school meets OLD school and revamps the paradigm of potential... I would love to own this for my daily driver... THE MOST ADVENTUROUS TRACK OF LIFE IS FOUND OFF THE BEATEN PATH!!!
lol you could tell the camera men were not prepared for the entire undercarriage part of the interview. views of the underside of the vehicle would have been nice there vs just looking at 2 guys lay on their backs.
Jay is a gear head. Comic for life. 4x4 of road guy not so much. Dances around the OEM and the modified. Put a knowledgeable Offroad women like Jesse and Jay go over the vehicle now that would be 😂
That is beautiful! I love EB's, and this thing is awesome! While it is super expensive, it screams quality, and you can tell the attention to detail that went into that thing!! Each one of those cars is pretty much a hand made piece!
I hear you guys about the price for this modified retro bronco. I was gonna chuckle at $75K to $85K, that was before I heard the price of $150K to $200k. That's just totally insane. Only filthy rich would entertain paying that much for one.
I've heard Jonathan Ward on Adam Carolla's Carcast a couple times, and he has such an eye for detail. Very cool guy. I remember when he first came out with the FJ how I was just awestruck. Definitely the pinnacle of this sort of design. Thanks, Jay!
+KlunkerRider Seriously, that is VERY pricey but you have to admit this is a unique, beautiful Bronco that's nicer than a top class Land Rover, and BULLETPROOF. *I think I'd rather put the $100k in MYSELF, but that's only because I'm confident in my ability.* *As a DIE-HARD Bronco fan, I don't see this as absolutely ridiculous, because if I was FILTHY rich, I'd probably buy one too. And it wouldn't be a garage queen either, I'd beat it like Micheal Jackson on the trails! lol*
+cybertree Agreed, reading alot of the other comments its clear most posters simply do not understand the level of modifications Icon makes to the car. These are very capable custom made off roaders but most people cannot get past the price tag, but if you consider how much people invest in building custom off road vehicles that is about on par once you factor labor costs of having someone build it for you. If you know what you are doing you could build something like this for about half the costs but it would also take alot of time tools and a proper garage committed to build it, something not all of us have the option for. I would buy one of these in a minute if I was able too.
PAYING FOR A "LIKE NEW", BUT MUCH BETTER, RESTORATION OF A CLASSIC THAT WON'T FALL APART LIKE MOST ALL "FROM SRATCH CUSTOMS'! ALSO FUN TO DRIVE AND RETAINS WORTH... BEING AN ALREADY LIMITED CLASSIC VEHICLE!
This style manufactured '66-'77. One of my biggest regrets is getting rid of the vintage Broncos I had 20+ years ago. Basically had three parts trucks and one good one which I enjoyed off-road. The best one I had was a '73 which was the first year they offered power steering and brakes if I remember correctly. Still had drum brakes all around though. Vintage Bronco and James Duff websites are great sources for anyone wishing to restore or resto-mod one of these on a much more economical budget than ICON. It really hit me hard when about 15 years after letting them all go, I saw one about 70% restored at a car show with a price tag of $35,000. I used to see some of these that had Mustang uni-bodies mounted on the vintage 4x4 Bronco frame. The wheel base was close enough to get away with it. Hands down...the funnest truck I've ever owned. The '78 and '79 Broncos were full size but also very nice. In the '80's they began going downhill like the rest of Ford's trucks. The Bronco II, slightly smaller than vintage style and introduced in '83, was no comparison. Long gone are the days when trucks easily lasted 20-30 years because of their simplicity and stout design.
Mr Leno, I don't know if you read your comments or not but I just want to say that this is a really cool Bronco. My dad has always wanted one like that, his buddy used to have one like this. I am a huge fan by the way my, favorite is headlines they are sooo funny. Thank you this is an awesome show!
Nice work and great detail , its america right ? He doesn't need the permission of you tubers for his prices he's asking , just enjoy the video . its a great built Bronco
Love it! I have a 69 302 4x4 I'm building on a budget but seeing this makes me really wanna take my time cause mine has almost nothing wrong with it currently, hellz yee bronco
Brings back so many memories oh gosh. Before we had a Broncos we had a international scout would like to see a build on one of those. But still had and always perfured the scout over the bronco
slashfan7964 the people that can afford this are driving it like your average joe in his 15 year old lifted Jeep . They aren’t worried about $10K in damages that they’ll have fixed within a couple days.
If you have a family the downfall of these older carry all's was the lack of back doors, made it difficult to get kids in and out of the back seat...other than that they were great all around vehicles...at least to those who knew how to actually drive them and not send them upside down on their tops LOL.
I just discovered this channel, and I hope we see more off road classics. I own a classic Toyota FJ-80 Land Cruiser, but my dream was always a classic Bronco or International Scout. Thanks JAY!
You have to realize, its basically a new truck with very limited production numbers. Ton's of those parts are machined one by one instead of factory plastic or stamped parts which are way easier to make. When you take into account the motor alone is 20k, and the quality work, and the fact that it essentially only shares the basic frame and body work of the bronco. Everything else is new!
Matt Close nonsense, parts are cnc'd so they can chooch them out anytime they want, they are not made one by one on a Bridgeport... also last time i checked the coyote v8 was not 20 grand l, more like 5 or 6....
Great episode. I first heard of Jonathan from the Rogan podcast. He seems like a really cool dude, and the passion for these automobiles really shows in the build quality. I'd love to own one of his cars in the future.
I like it. I agree the price is CRAZY. But ground up redesign. Everything is thought out. This would last a million years. Nice. Jesus. Everything is so expensive these days. Wow. You might as well build one of your own. Take 5 years to do it. ha ha.
Agreed, it's super cool, but even if I had the money for it, I'd be too scared to use it for what it's for at that price. You could just drop a modern V8 and transmission in a old HiLux or something and have just as much fun for less than a tenth of the price without being terrified of tree branches and mud.
Matthew Sharpe I wouldn't put gas in a hilux, but a bronco, blazer, jeep scout or power wagon upgrade and resto? That's cool stuff. I did a jeep resto /upgrade for much less.
Matthew Sharpe or realy just rebuild the old motor and tranny because thay had the grunt my fav combo is the ford(I.H.)6.9 non turbo mated to a T18 4 speed the frame would twist befor thay gave an inch
When you factor in the cost of all the parts to build this, the price goes through the roof. Dynatac prorock 60 read axle is like $8-10K the front axle is about $3-4k the Atlas transfer case is about $2500 The brakes are probably $4K. The engine is like 15K (without mods) Just from looking at it, I can see no expense was spared. From the parts, custom fab, and all the other add on s it's easy to see how the price goes way up. Keep in mind the guy who builds them has to make a little money to pay the employees, biz expenses, and put food on his table.
hooleyboy Yes, I definitely think it's worth the money from a quality point of view - I just can't ever imagine being comfortable enough with something so expensive that I could actually use it for what it's good at... then again I'm just a middle class schlob, so I've no idea how it feels to be rich enough to actually own something like this - maybe I'd get over the value of it.
Jay thank you for doing a story on this great Icon of the past. To answer the IH question, the Scout was first 1961-71 with the 80/800, then 71-80 with the Scout II. ICON has done a great job of doing more then retro fitting a Ford Bronco. I wish they would do something as cool for the Scout. Next time you see Marcelo G tell him I said hi. Martin. Keep the videos coming.
+deadgameguns Yea but your looking at what went into building the Bronco. Dana 60 rearend, Ford Mustang 50 400 hp, Atlas 2 stick transfer case. Finding a bronco not eat up with cancer or already been body modded .^^ to 80's Bronco's are had to fine anymore plus the detail to make them as true to there roots is costly. With that said yea $150 k is steep for me as well I much rather buy me a house with a big Garage and do a YJ or TJ Jeep for about $40k
None of that stuff adds up to $150-200k worth of parts. You could do all this yourself for far less. Your just paying for someone's labor buying vehicles that are already built like this.
ICON has an eye for true detail. I’ve seen Broncos done before but not to this extreme. This is a modern masterpiece that will be enjoyed for the next 20 years. Now all I need is $200k to drop down on one of these.
150-200 thousand. Better off buying a 2k Jeep and putting 30k into it in Fab and Parts and you would get more travel and better off roading potential. Cool but Over priced.
Agreed. Unfortunately, I don't have the necessary garage space for such equipment. It's interesting you brought this up though as I was a welder/fabricator for Caterpillar and ran a welding truck in the oil fields of North Dakota for a number of years. So, it is within my skill set to do as you suggest. Thanks for the post.
And be really silly. Who in their right mind would pay that money to off-road in this? It can be done a lot more stylishly, proficiently and cheaply. Doesn't look like its worth 150k and i bet it isnt even actually worth near that.
***** I could agree with this comment. People will always buy things just bc they can afford it. But Im not paying that much money for a car that does the same thing as a 30k jeep wrangler. Trust me, you will have more fun with an offroad beater than a 150k bronco.
+roger b So many Rubes .. broken down Ward is charging $3000-$10000 for roughly every $500 "customization" he does. You could do brand new eng, trans, rear, air, electrics, paint, full custom leather interior for 1/4 to half of an Icon Bronco... "oh.. the Icon is so much more"... no not really... by the way I have some Emperor's new clothers for sale.
I think your kind of missing the Point go listen to the Adam Carolla Car Cast with Johnathan Ward. You will then understand the insane deal that this man goes into with these trucks. He basically redesigns the whole thing from the ground up.
I absolutely disdain and downright abhor mod&tuner shops and dealerships alike that plaster their name all over the vehicle I look at it this way unless your paying me for the advertising on my vehicle then i don't want it there!
It's crazy how desirable these broncos have come to be. My uncle just sold his old Bronco for almost $30k to a guy who said he planned to put another $20-30k into it. Also, my dad's best friend sold an old Blazer for about $35k. These classic trucks are bringing some pretty serious money these days and I'm sure they'll keep going up.
Ya the attention to detail is INSANE!! That guy takes his job seriously!
ICON not afford it.
Very punny, SAD FLEA:)
Stephen Swain Oooooo.
how much is it?
navjot c over 100k
SAD FLEA ouch..

i picked up a 1988 bronco II 4X4 2.9 MOTOR 5 speed running & driving for $450 :) best 4x4 ever other then my sidekick
Awesome
I know someone who had two of those. Lots of power nearly 30mpg on the highway and would go anywhere a Jeep would go.
@@scarhart53 sorry but I had one. Best vehicle ever but try 18mpg tops and 96 peak hp. Not exactly tons of power.

Nice Bronco. Although with the price tag its doubtful anyone will do any serious off roading with it.

I had a Branco 2 88. 5 speed 6er as a first car...

I BET OJ WISH HE HAD THIS ONE BACK IN THE DAY! 'WINK WINK'
Jason The glove didn't fit man, he shoulda had a better lawyer ;P.
Mr Leno, I don't know if you read your comments or not but I just want to say that this is a really cool Bronco. My dad has always wanted one like that, his buddy used to have one like this. I am a huge fan by the way my, favorite is headlines they are sooo funny. Thank you this is an awesome show!
Landrover defender or older series Landrover please.
Hey Mr. Leno, love the Bronco segment. I would love to see more off road stuff. I wish The Blaze would make this a show on its new network.
My first car was a Bronco. I still wish I never sold it. If I could have any car it would be one of these.
my first is a bronco 2 88 model xlt.
Brings back so many memories oh gosh. Before we had a Broncos we had a international scout would like to see a build on one of those. But still had and always perfured the scout over the bronco
I hate the insulation.. I hate the power step.. I hate the price.. I still want it
I am loving that Jay has a sight here on UA-cam ! , always a pleasure Jay . Ray in Pa.
Yeah because someones going to take a 200k Bronco offroad.
Yeah, but it’s legit. How many Ferrari owners take their cars up to 200 mph?
I take my GMC AT4 off road when i wanna go anywhere
slashfan7964 the people that can afford this are driving it like your average joe in his 15 year old lifted Jeep . They aren’t worried about $10K in damages that they’ll have fixed within a couple days.
If they can afford to buy it they're gonna take it off road, they wont be worried about any repair bill.
ICON does amazing work. Expensive? Most definitely. But total quality and durablity? Oh you betcha! Great work👍
Had a chance to get the exact same model for 2200 passed on it for a dodge durango this video makes me regret it smh
Thanks JAY!
Buy myself a small home and an fj for this price..
This guy was ahead of his time. Bronco values have skyrocketed in the last few years.
I love it but for a 150 grand , I don't think so.
Everything this guy makes is crazy expensive.
I think Jay thinks the same thing lol
You have to realize, its basically a new truck with very limited production numbers. Ton's of those parts are machined one by one instead of factory plastic or stamped parts which are way easier to make. When you take into account the motor alone is 20k, and the quality work, and the fact that it essentially only shares the basic frame and body work of the bronco. Everything else is new!
Matt Close nonsense, parts are cnc'd so they can chooch them out anytime they want, they are not made one by one on a Bridgeport... also last time i checked the coyote v8 was not 20 grand l, more like 5 or 6....
Please tell me where you can get a new/unused coyote with wiring harness for 5k... or any new/unused modern v8 for that matter.
Take 5 years to do it. ha ha.
Wow, great video. I'm drooling over that Icon Bronco. The engine sounds bad-ass.
good idea, executed well, beautiful truck but still not worth the money he's asking.
Dear Jay Leno/absolutely top notch/keep up the good work/sorry my doorbell just rung/thank you
Very nice, but these are just for the rich. 200K wow!
I really enjoyed watching this and I really love anything offroad
Yep, old bronco's, like old landcruiser's and old Jeeps. and Scouts.
More like "I Con Not Afford"
150,000 to 200,000 dollars! wtf.
Your just paying for someone's labor buying vehicles that are already built like this.
roadjunkie I'll take it, how do they want the money check, money order or just cash. I buy it were going to Baja
.
Love your videos Jay. More off road stuff please!
Icons are great but I still cant see why anyone would spend 150 to 200k for a bronco.. the whole point was their affordability..
I love Broncos, and I absolutely LOVE this one, but this is expensive bullshit.
not a fans of bronco but this one done really well, solid simplicity, goo color-pick, good wheels taste, nice fitting engine and it rambluz
Did he say $150k? Im going to pretend he didn't! You could get a MB G-wagon AMG for less than that.
That Bronco is sweet! Definitely want more off road stuff Jay!
150k and that's the best steering wheel you could come up with? Its cool but not worth 150k not even close.
this thing is badass to the max, with all the quality stuff on that truck the price didnt suprise me one bit. Awesome! do more four wheel drive stuff!
i think for 35k you could have a real nice one.
roger b but not near the truck this one is...
+roger b For 35k, it oughta be REAL nice.
+footbalr074 Of course not, this is a handbuilt car.
+Closeoutracer 1/4 the price, 1/4 the product.
That's a dream bronco for me now. I have an 89 I'm slowly fixing up. Really just needs engine tuneup and a few gaskets replaced. But they're sweet
150-200K, get outta town, I would rather buy a new Ford Raptor
Ya but this is a custom car...HAND made.
Thanks Captain Obvious.
Raptor Grill looks like crap
I think your kind of missing the Point go listen to the Adam Carolla Car Cast with Johnathan Ward. You will then understand the insane deal that this man goes into with these trucks. He basically redesigns the whole thing from the ground up.
LOL, being unique by paying close to 200K for a Ford Bronco, I'll pass.
I think that this might be it; my "If You Could Only Have One Car... Any Car" car.
Thank you, ICON. 🙏
You can build 3 of them for what they're asking for these overpriced Bronco's so do your homework first
PLEASE make more offroad videos! This was amazing!
These classic trucks are bringing some pretty serious money these days and I'm sure they'll keep going up.
what a waste of 150k
neverlooksatit what a waste of oxygen.
lol
FINALLY GOOD QUALITY VIDEO....GOD BLESS...!!!
Ha-ha. $150,000-$200,000 for a Bronco. Ha-ha-ha
