Definitely one of the most stunning drag racing teams of all time!🏁 Fantastic job by Mopar constructors and driver Don Carlton. That was a rocket science!
Having just met Arnie through a recent buisness deal, I can vouch for it and say he is the real deal. This was a great video, but it barely scratches the surface of this man's incredible life and his history with those legendary cars. I am proud to call Arnie a friend, and will always cherish the chrome dual plug hemi valve covers from the Motown Missile Challenger, which has always been my favorite old race car.
In 1988 I was at a car show in Paris KY. I meet a man, and he took me to see this car (I believe it was this car). The man that owned it said it was for sale (I had no money anyway), it was in a Coca-Cola warehouse. Very cool.
I got pictures of this car at Columbus at the spring nationals doing a back bumper wheely and falling over on its side it was my highlit picture of the event
I had a friend who ran one of the factory Hemi Darts back in the day and he knew the Chrysler guys first hand. From what I recollect, the missile was referred to as " The mule" meaning it was where things got there tryouts before being released as info to other Chrysler racers in the ProStock class particularly but also applied to other classes where legal.
just to get info out there the snubbed wasn't a traction bar that was the leaf springs job. The springs were made with a short, very stiff front third and very active rear two thirds which would arc and cause the car to rise up and plant the slick. the short front section was so stiff it couldn't wrap on acceleration and THAT was the definition of what it was to do. A separate bar was unnecessary. There were different springs depending on chassis and car weight.
Mid-high 9's back in the day?? I got to see Grumpy run his 331 Vega at NY national speedway early 70's. 2000 CFM each on those carbs? I wonder how that was possible unless the entire carb base was significantly larger than a stock dominator??
?Can you LOOK AGAIN AT THAT SPLINE COUNT? SURELY THEY ONLY raced and developed the famed 18 SPLINE "HEMI" 4 SPEED?!? Was it the LIBERTY GEARED "Clutch less" type? We HAVE TO KNOW!
The car was so light they may have thought a 23 spline wud be able to cope for a few passes . AND they saved a few ounces cause a 23 spline has smaller input shaft OD .
That car was and IS A 1971 CHALLENGER!!!, I KNOW FOR A FACT!!, the 71 is a one year only head lite an grill, an tail lite assembly, so if your going to talk about a old school drag cars , do everyone a huge favor, GET YOUR STORY STRAIGHT !, an stop talking shit, do ur home work get the details an FACTS STRAIGHT!!!
I think that it’s good you can notice basic information such as grill and tail light differences. However, if you listen to the video he was given a 1970 body but then was told to change the body parts to make it a 1971 rather than having to make a new race car the next year.
Less than original name'age.. Not to be confused with the first and real MOPAR Missile and that would be "Shirley Shahan" (Bridge)s and her Melrose Missile, She also drove the Drag-on-Lady another Super Stock MOPAR.
Excellent video! Seeing all of that Mopar goodness is a real treat. I can’t thank you enough for sharing!
I remember this car very well from back in the day
Way cool! My dad had a 70 Hemi Challenger back then when I was a kid.
The 70&71 one of my favorite Pro Stock's Don Carlton was a great Driver!!! Just one awesome car.!!!🏆🏆✌️
I remember Don carlton as the 3:32 driver lived kinda clise to his home in hudson north carolina. Close to hudson prison camp
Thank-you for your great vid , always good to see the awesome Mopar stuff especially the Hemi , 👍
We really enjoy doing this stuff as well. Thank you for your support so we can continue to do so!

Great vid!!!! 👍🏁
I always like the early stock body cars vs. the modern ones

VERY AWESOME!!! thanks for sharing!
This was always a very significant car with all the engineering trickery done too it 😊
This race Dodge displays amazing engineering.
I will never forget the day I watched (and then met) Bullet Bob Reed running this car against Ronnie Sox at Englishtown in 1989....

Rewarding work, nice 👍
Titanium Axle...and ' IT"S TWISTED AT THE SPLINES" !!!!!
John livingston was the second owner of the missile and ran the car in the 1972 season both NHRA and IHRA.
I remember seeing this car from years ago at the Dan Gallis museum
Beautiful car and VERY expensive
"Not to pick the front end up" Snubbers were for keeping the tires planted. Similar to what traction bars did.....😉
Greatest time in history
I got pictures of this car at Columbus at the spring nationals doing a back bumper wheely and falling over on its side it was my highlit picture of the event
I’m amazed the ran a destroyed Hemi, down to 396 cu. Inches.

It's amazing how many checks Chrysler wrote out for the 70s racing program while they were sinking into bankruptcy
I have the magazine with this on the front cover " 1972
Gorgeous car ""
Just got rid of die cast to the pawn, needed $for food. Seen it all the time at us30 in ind., I was 12 yrs old.
I think the last time I saw it it was at Don garlits... They did have a missile car there but it might have been a duster or demon
Wish you did the video of the wire car
Maybe that will be next??
How does this tie in with the Melrose missile?
They moved the 70 Challenger body backwards, not forward. They moved the wheels forward.
Yeee Yeee 😊
Best Decal is the RFC... Racers For Christ...
Saw Don Carlton race Grumpy Jenkins for the money at the '72 WinterNationals.

Oh yeah , I did own a 1971 challenger it's a hard year to find today, so trust my facts!!
Would that have been Greg of Akron,Ohio?
Didn't he roll it with Jay Leno?
That was the "Hemi underglass" car
It was a death trap!
They all were, and the drivers were Kamakazi's Pilots.

YOU BETTER COUNT THAT AGAIN!

@@michaelmoon8856 YOU BETTER COUNT THE SPLINES TOO! It is easy to see the larger course spline input shaft in the video!
@frankparks4900
Im not the one who said it had 23. The host / narrator is . Take it up with him .
moved the body BACK,,,not FORWARD
AWESOME....
