I went down a size in Rain but I had these shoes already. New ones would be 10. Those I have I either sell or rely on the sole inserts. It’s an 80% fit, but the Simpson are fine.
Carmina didn’t do a Cuban or pitched heel at the time this came out but it’s a 270 welt so the heel is tighter than a typical 360. “Huge” is an enormous overstatement (not unheard of on SF). I think regionally there are preferences to have tight and very tapered heels where it would look off, but as an American I thought it was pretty tight back in 2018 when I bought them. Now of course Carmina offers the taper as part of the mto so folks with the preference have an option. Prepare… now I’ll take a new twist on the discussion. It’s funny in a way, there are so many designs of shoes out there. If you think the heel profile is too big, you should be able to tell by the pics online and should never buy the shoes. So one of two things is happening. 1) the ladies and gents are buying shoes without looking at the pictures 2) the pictures are not showing the heels (like many websites don’t show the soles… which drives me nuts). The solution is to do your homework… and don’t buy shoes where the maker doesn’t show what you want to see online. Many times I’ve bought stuff and been surprised. Now I’ve simply altered my method and stopped buying the unknown. If I’m really excited about shoes I’ll ask for pics, but more times than not I just move on. If they don’t take pride in the whole shoe, why buy it?
Thanks for your answer. But I meant with heel, the cup size for the fit of the shoe. (Sorry) Did you find them too loose and how this will be noticed? By slip?
Ah. Apologies for my confusion. As I get into bespoke and made to measure shoes this proportion is definitely off, but I wouldn’t say it’s more or less than any other brand or Carmina shoe. Every bespoke maker I’ve spoken with identifies this as the most common adjustment needed. Kind of tablestakes. This could be a bunch of Alden fans ripping on Carmina. I say this because only Alden has a size offering on this heel cup. And they don’t necessarily offer the choice to change it as much as call it out. To answer your question directly this is solved by choosing the right last at Carmina. This shoe was designed on the Simpson but massdrop did this on rain… So rain might have been big on them but Simpson fit like a glove. If you can only have three shoes… stick to the perfect last in a brand.
Thanks for your opinion and answer. I’m absolutely in love with designs from Yohei Fukuda and Siroeno Yosui. I wish you and your channel all the best for 2023.
Due to lifelong Orthopedic problems and the need to put orthotics in my shoes, I went to Carmina's store locally at 45th St. in New York, hoping I could get fit with a quality pair of dress shoes that I could fit my orthotics into and wear comfortably. Instead, I was met by a pushy salesman who was just hellbent on selling whatever they had in stock. When I got home and double checked the Detroits he had sold me, I saw that my orthotics were in fact cutting into the sides of the shoes, and would in no time be damaging the linings. Although I could probably get a perfect pair of custom Carminas for myself, I can't trust this company anymore. I'm just taking these shoes back.
Великолепно, каблучок, всегда заставляет мужчин выпремляца, быть стройными, такая красота, очень хочется носить, БЫТЬ МУЖЧИНОЙ, ЖАЛЬ НЕМОГУ НАТИ ТАКИЕ.....
Nice. I just custom ordered a pair in dark brown. I will receive them in approximately 60 days. I can’t wait!
im eyeballing a new custom carmina boot. do you reccomend the 360 welt or the 270?
How I wish they'd offer those in suede now... I snagged a pair in brown and I love them!
John,
I just noticed that those are the same size as the 80610 shoes that you have. Do you typically keep the same size in the Rain and Simpson lasts?

I have these in black, definitely worth the price, wish they were still available I’d buy in brown too
Hi, how is your opinion about the heel? Many guys at SF say the heel is (too) huge…?

Hi nice shoes!
Which saphir cream do you use?
Just renovateur for most leathers and the MDO system. I also use PHRe polish sometimes and for shell cordovan.
