When I was in Ranger bat all the guys were buying these. Back in 1990’s then these were American made. They were extremely expensive back then. I had the recon tanto even that cost $80 for a factory #2 in 1992. They were made by Camillus knives. I love the design I just didn’t like the old sheath was right hand carry.
Great defensive blades, puncture without hesitation, slash like there is no material before it, hacks all the way into wet bone ( don't ask how i learned this) and is great for various locations of concealment. Been part of my battle rattle for some time now. It also rides scout on EDC or horizontal front carry. But is a bad little beauty
CPM3V I believe is overrated for this style and application of blade which is self defense. I have tantos in cpm3v and San mai. Both are excellent steels but I think san mai offers a better value. I have 3 knives in CPM3V and 4 in San Mai from Cold Steel. CPM3V holds a edge well but it's a harder rockwell hardness steel and it does break. JoeX has proven that CPM3V isn't that special when the knives are abused heavily. I watched him destroy a cpm3v blade from cold steel quite easily. Believe it or not AUS8 steel and sk85 seem to hold up better than super steels under extreme abuse. Yes I know it unbelievable but the tests JoeX does proves it.
I only have a couple tanto style knives and like you I'm not a big fan of them either. They look cool and are fun to have, but I find traditional drop points, spear point or clips points to be more practical for my EDC needs. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!
Not a huge tanto fan either, but I would carry that! Nice length to do the job, for self defense! Shoot, even for bushcraft or batoning, that would git-r-done! Thanks for sharing! New to the channel, SUBBED! Greetings from the PNW! 🇺🇸 🪓🌲🪓🌲
Yep, definitely has the cool factor as trying to see over that tanto blade shape though....With a little mod we can fix that tanto blade....LOL....A good knife is a good knife at the end of the day so nice share....Good stuff....
I'm not much of a tanto fan either but, I like this one too. It's a beast for sure. Thing about sharpening american tantos that most people get wrong and end up ruining the transition point, is the you have to treat each part as a separate blade. Sharpen the long side to the transition point then turn the knife and sharpen the tip as if it were it's own edge , from tip to transition point so you don't round it off and make it lìke a Japanese tanto with a rounded nose.
One of my grail knives. Lynn was stabbing through car hoods before JoeX was born.
😂👍🥷
my tanto V-3' 6'inch is
1' of my primary hand tools ( weapons) going on 35'plus years riding my 6' and is
1' solid full tang piece of quality steel
smaller ones make great utility knives, the second tip for draw cuts and the front flat as a scraper
Everybody loves the Tanto until the time comes to resharpen it. They're a bitch to sharpen!

I got the Recon Tanto in 3v. It’s not bad. Very nice man!

I agree. They definitely have a cool factor. But I don’t have a day to day use
I love all their 3V

I agree
The best thing is to hand sharpen NOT use a electric belt sharpener. You can easily ruin the knife if you are a novice.
@@jonathandiamond6801 good thing I’m not a novice
Some kids in Africa would of drank that water you monster! 😂
