In my opinion, this movie was snubbed in at least 5 other categories: Screenplay, International Film, Lead Actor, Director and Best Picture. Instead it was nominated and won in what I’d consider to be the most ironic category: Visual Effects, a franchise known for rubber monster suits. We’ve come so far since my childhood. Well done! Such a great time to be a fan of the King!!
in fact, rubber suits are such a brilliant idea. The director understood that simple stop motion did not look realistic enough and he simply came up with the idea of dressing the actor in a suit and filming it on small city sets
So happy for them! Imo Godzilla minus one is the best Godzilla movie of all time! And with a roughly 10-15 million dollar budget, it looked better than most Hollywood blockbusters! Excellent work!! Congrats to everyone involved!

Look up their shoes. They had Godzilla themed shoes
It was annoying!
@@legendarygodzillatheking3049 What if Toho keeps making more Godzilla movies? You going to cry and bitch because you have to read subtitles?
@@smithwesson1896This account has been commenting on every G-1 video I have seen, lmao. This guy hates the movie with a passion!
Godzilla, King of the Box office 🏆
BEST FILM 2023 & 2024 in Black & White - CONGRATULATIONS
As a long time Godzilla fan this actually made me cry. I’m so happy for them
*TO: Ishiro Honda, Eiji Tsuburaya, Tomoyuki Tanaka, Akira Ifukube, Haruo Nakajima, Akira Takarada, Akihiko Hirata, Kenpachiro Satsuma, and many, many, many more who are no longer with us:* GODZILLA IS FINALLY AN OSCAR WINNER! LONG LIVE THE KING! 👑
Hardest category for it to win too.
in fact, rubber suits are such a brilliant idea. The director understood that simple stop motion did not look realistic enough and he simply came up with the idea of dressing the actor in a suit and filming it on small city sets
I'll add score too
I agree with @maggieaishalee3829 that score was exceptional and deserved nomination.
Godzilla Minus One is an absolute MUST SEE film. It was one of the best movies I ever seen in my life.
I saw it 4 times in theaters.
@@monk4ever I saw it twice. Looking forward to when it comes out to buy
@@monk4ever Same here...three times in color and once minus color. But minus color was in the theater for only a week, otherwise....
So happy for them! Imo Godzilla minus one is the best Godzilla movie of all time! And with a roughly 10-15 million dollar budget, it looked better than most Hollywood blockbusters! Excellent work!! Congrats to everyone involved!
This should be called Godzilla Minus Won 🏆🤩
Dude, the Godzilla action figures, I love it so much!!
Never would I have thought of hearing Arnold Schwarzenegger saying "Godzilla" as the winner of Best VFX... The best way of celebrating Big-G's 70th anniversary!!!
Congrats Minus One crew, you earn this!!!!
Should’ve had more nominations honestly
It won an award. Move on.
Better than nothing
Agreed. That was one of the best movies I've seen in my lifetime. My brother (barely a Godzilla Fan but saw it with me kind of as a favor) said the same thing
I hate when pepole complain that he should have won for best picture, just be happy he won at least
The godzilla theme playing makes it so much better
Dude... i just watch the film and wasn't expecting much (i think this was the first, maybe second gozilla film I've watched) and... it blew me away. Not just the special effects but the entire plot and characters. They totally deserve this award man. Nicely done!
02:59 Strangely, the Oppenheimer section seemed to stand-up once they saw/realized the winners were Japanese.
_Gojira Minus One_ is a sequel to _Oppenheimer,_ fact. 😅
Not only was it a historic night for Godzilla, but also for old Batman-based grudges! Love it!
After 70 years, it's finally happened....
Huge congratulations for Takashi & the crew for making not only a great G flim, but just an great film in general.
Long live the Big G❤
Arnold Schwarzenegger giving an award to a Godzilla film!!!!
My childhood has just flashed before my eyes!!!! My heroes growing up!!!
Stan Winston would be happy!!!!
My nominees:
- The Creator
- Godzilla Minus One
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
- Oppenheimer
- Poor Things
Winner: Godzilla Minus One
Winning on the same night as Oppenheimer no less lol. Poetic in more ways then one. Congrats to the SFX team for their historic win. Should have gotten a best picture nod as well.
Yes, it is that good here. I loved the mini statues as this was Godzilla's night as well. Not to mention justification for lower budget films which in this arena deserve a long overdue revival.
Yes!! Godzilla won an Oscar!!! Wooo 🥳 Congratulations Takashi Yamazaki and the Godzilla minus one team!
It's a great time to be a G fan!! The VFX team that worked on this movie was only 35 people. CONGRATULATIONS TOHO!!! "That monster...will never forgive us."
When they announced Godzilla Minus One Won The Oscar For Best Visual Effects, I had (And still do.) the biggest smile on my face & I was literally Cheering & Applauding while jumping up and down! This is The Most Phenomenal Moment & is a win for Godzilla, Toho & Godzilla Fans!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi and Tatsuji Nojima & Congratulations Godzilla!!!!!!!!!! Go Go Godzilla!!!!!!!!!!
Gotta love how Michael Keaton's humorless attitude was more "Batman" than "Bruce Wayne"!
Well fucking deserved. Wished it was nominated in more categories.
Godzilla minus one is now the greatest Godzilla movie of all time, well deserved. Masterpiece
This needs to send a big message to Hollywood.
This surely did. Many big figures of the Hollywood industry were astonished the Hollywood industry and many visual effects artists. Even Steven Spielberg said it was incredible :)
Heres the thing... Every other movie besides Godzilla had a budget of well over 80 million dollars... Godzilla did what it did with only 15 million dollars... This isn't just well deserved, this is a LESSON
@@user-ok5ez1ls1k the lesson is that toho did what billion doller blockbusters can't,have incredible visual effects for way less
@@user-ok5ez1ls1kA lesson in properly utilizing your budget. If a movie can have better looking effects than other movies that cost 10 times as much to make then those other movies are doing something wrong.
Less than 15 million. It was around 10 million.
That's in Yen, right?
@@TheEman590 Dollars, it's converted
And they played Ifukube's theme when everyone went up on stage!
Today Godzilla defeated two of the greatest threats to humanity: Disney and Tom Cruise.
Godzilla Minus One made the titular monster frightening again and had well-developed human characters for audiences to care for. Godzilla Minus One impressed viewers with its visual effects for Godzilla and the carnage he caused.
Ye
This is the first Kaiju film since Peter Jackson’s King kong to win an Oscar.
And this one is so much better
@@skycladobserver9246
Ehh to each their own, both are masterpieces in their own way, and comparing them is like apple to oranges to me honestly
@@bigtimemadness9977 Yeah like the best apple ever to a pretty decent orange that takes a long time to peel.
@@pendafluxMy thoughts exactly. Peter Jackson's King Kong is gorgeous in places and obviously a labor of love and not anything near a bad movie but it's too long and too much. I still prefer the 1933 King Kong and the Monsterverse Kong movies if I'm being honest with myself..
We were so close to seeing another Kong get an Oscar a couple years back. 'Kong: Skull Island' got a Nomination for Best VFX. Forgot who they lost out to though...
At long last, Godzilla has graced the American academy awards and won an oscar!🎉🎉🎉🎉 Thank you,god bless you and CONGRATULATIONS Takashi Yamazaki and all the other people who worked on the visual effects for Godzilla Minus One and earning Godzilla and yourselves this astounding honor!
WE HAVE MINUS WON ON THIS DAY
Finally watched this movie. An award well earned. That first shot of godzilla on the beach blew my mind. As good as the first T-Rex shot from JP. Great to see their work honored.
Well deserved, on a budget of less than 15 million they made the greatest Godzilla film ever, congrats to this team they really deserve it
2:34
70 years we’ve waited for this day
The BIGGEST W of the night. So proud of this team and these people. 100% deserved. Long Live The King
They completely deserved it. With a limited budget, they made amazing visuals and it just goes to show that having all the money in the world does not always translate to a quality product!
Godzilla was a HUGE part of my childhood. I missed Minus One while it was in theaters. I absolutely cannot wait to watch it. On behalf of me now, and me as a kid in the mid to late 90s, thank you SO much Toho, and congratulations!
The best moment in Oscar’s history,- Danny, Arnie, Keaton and Team Godzilla winning!
I legit cried! Should have been nominated for Best Picture but I'll take it!
1000% it deserved so much more! But it'll always be an Oscar winner :)
Congratulations to Takashi Yamazaki and the VFX Team for Godzilla Minus One.
Japan is winining many oscars first the boy and the heron and now this, arigato Japan
Japan knows not to force political mandates in movies.
@@HermaphroGynandrothats not exclusive to Japan, pretty much most films outside the US.
@@HermaphroGynandroNot only is that not true, that's not even true for Godzilla. The original was political as fuck. Shin Godzilla more recently was also politically themed, and is widely considered one of the best in the franchise.
Even Godzilla -1 was blatantly pointed at how the government at the time viewed their own people as disposable, and explicitly framed America as abandoning Japan to the whims of the angry lizard so they don't make Moscow mad.
Just because you can't see it doesn't mean political messaging isn't there.
@@HermaphroGynandroDID BRO JUST SAY GODZILLA MINUS ONE ISNT POLITICAL 😭😭
This is the second time two Japanese productions have won an Oscar! (Last time was from 2008)
danny being so short but bowing is fuckin great. one of the best oscars moments. the minus one team did an outstanding job.
I am so proud of the team, not only the King of the Monsters first appearance at the Oscars, but winning against marvel and universal. they absolutely deserve this massive W!
It's never easy to win an Oscar Award against the big two industry like Marvel and Universal big win for Toho for its first ever Oscar Award let's hope that Godzilla X Kong can gets a big win like Minus One did
Well gxk is now the highest grossing monster verse movie
They deserve this win!
