So I was having that issue also specifically I use bee tv it ask which player you want to use and you select it and it wouldn’t load. To fix that you’ll have to go back and install the player it’s asking you to select then it should play right.

Rooting isn't just side loading as side loading is only to load apps on to the TV or other android devices and rooting allows you to take control of the full system changing any file you want
