Our herding dogs live in the house with us. Yes, it does make for more floor cleaning and we use slipcovered furniture, but I love their companionship indoors. ❤
I'm picking up my 8week old B/C dog next week. Although he won't be working, he will be a regular visitor to the farm, where he was born, visiting his parents, and some of his siblings , to run the fields and socialise as much as he wants. He is from great stock, and his grand parents are still working dogs. ( Welsh hill farmers ) It's taken me 5yrs to get the courage to get another dog, after losing my best mate Max, a border terrier, who was with us for 18yrs. The grief is still bad .but at 73, I am hoping I won't have to go through it again. Thanks for sharing this vid.
Peg is a beautiful baby! Our 16 year old corgi is having the same issues. He's thrilled to putz around while we work. He especially enjoys finding old men and tottering after them.
I had an Afghan hound that did that without no one taught her. She rounded up the sheep and move the group up and dawn. Very independent and smart dog.
HOW BEAAUTIFUL IT IS TO SEE THE SHEEP HERDER WITH HIS BORDER COLLIE WORKING TOGETHER. THE ABSOLUTELY COORDINATED CONTROL OF THE HERD. I WONDER HOW MANY THOUSANES OF YEARS IT TOOK FOR MAN TO FORM THIS UNION WITH THE DOG FAMILY TO DO THIS JOB? IT IS JUST BEAUTIFUL TO WATCH LIKE A BALLET.
We’ve rescued two collies who didn’t get through the training, love them to bits so intelligent our girl Bella’ s mother has been retired at 15 and still looks for work
They must want to work for you. My (rescue) border collie, was actually "kicked off" a ranch, because she wouldnt work. She is the most laziest border Collie I have seen. She is such a city girl and loves to sleep in. However she gots the smarts, and sometimes, she is in the mood to run on a field and she lets out that dormant border collie part. Love them

My sister had a farm in Pennsylvania (USA) and it was so cute to watch at the end of the work session when Kate said "that'll do", the collie would leap across a fence and jump in the pond for a bit of refreshment in summertime :) I'm a city girl and feel sad when I see these beautiful creatures confined to small lots and maybe lucky to go to a park to catch a frisbee occasionally

My current 2 year old Winston loved your video so much that he was jumping up on the table in front of our TV to be closer to the sheep and your beautiful girl that has pretty much the same markings as him all through watching this video. Thank you for entertaining my current best friend!
@@CotswoldFarmPark Someone dumped a border collie on us about 6 years ago, along with a blue healer and rottweiler mixed. They were badly abused and starved...the first time I swept the porch off he attacked the broom, they shake tremendously and run off to the house at the sound of a gun, even way in the distance, they are extremely scared when we burn the trash. I started out slow brushing the border collie with the broom, he is much better now and I can sweep without him shaking, my husband and I are so glad they found us and stayed, we just love those babies! Long time ago, my family had a ranch house in an valley, and many families in that area had horses, but most people worked during the day, not at homes, so it was a very quite and peaceful valley and attracted wild horses and cayotes(even black bears). We had a border collie whose hobby was chasing those wild horses and cayotes away because he thought that it was his responsibility to protect my neighbors horses, cows and dogs. I witnessed several times he gathered my neighbor's two horses together, so I had to keep him inside of fence since then. I have a new border collie puppy now and also has the instinct of herding. Amazing! 😄😄😄

It amazes me how their instincts to please are so heightened and their intelligence goes with it all. I didn't grow up on a farm or anything and I can imagine the hard work it would take. I am so thankful for videos such as yours to give me a glimpse of it! God bless you going forward
Thank you! I found this video very useful in terms of learning the correct commands, and just working a mob of sheep - took the confusion I have had, away - it seems to be straight-forward. I have a 3yr old, well-bred border collie with strong herding instincts, and we have been training to do flyball since he was young. But I also want to do some herding with him. Luckily, I have two big pet ewes and Dibbs has shown his natural talents by helping me to get the sheep out of the house yard regularly, though now I feel it's a good time for he and I to learn the commands, and do some solid training. I'm really looking forward to it and I know Dibbs is too. Again, thank you.
The only other piece I've ever seen on border collie work was in the movie Babe and I found it fascinating. I'm going to watch this many times. I love this.

The way you demonstrated everything was exceptional bc now I understand so many things - especially about certain dog breeds! What an absolutely hardworking & amazing life you have & your vistas are stunning!!!

He’s already exhibits herding instincts, fantastic eye contact, drops the ball at my feet when playing fetch. I just moved 9 sheep onto ,y property & hope they aren’t freaked out when the pup is old enough to train!

These dogs are so amazing!! I have never had a collie but I have had dogs! I agree with you 100%. There are extremely special gifts from God for us humans! I have read that these border collies are unbelievable smart, as a mater of fact, they are called the smartest dog on earth!
We have the shetland sheepdogs from Scotland. They are smaller compared to the shetland sheepdogs bred here in the States. Hope to see y'all get some, perhaps. The breed is not big here in the States, unfortunately. Their size is 8 to 15 lbs, fully grown. They are, however fully functional as herd dogs. ❤
Dogs have been part of my life since I was four years old I convinced my parents I *would* take care of a male long-haired German Shepherd puppy that grew into a 120 pound beast of a dog, Little did I know at that time that my dog Butch Cassidy would teach me so much about life and death before I even turned sixteen years old. Now some 18 dogs later I'm still shedding tears over the loss of my last German Shepherd Dog. RIP, Amber girl. ♥🐕🦺♥
Hes a natural. I got him from Scotland 3 year's ago now from a beautiful lady who had a wonderful farm and his mother and farther were both working dog's. Hes a well loved pet now but everyone I meet while walking and training lucky says he would of been a fantastic working dog. I would love to see if he could work sheep like your new beautiful girl. Thank you very much for your video and look forward to seeing many more. Many thanks Phil and lucky woof 👍
I can't wait to try herding! I'm getting a puppy from a working line so I'm super excited. It won't be our main focus since I don't own a farm - we will be focusing on canicross, bikejoring and sports like obedience, nosework and agility but I would not be able to justify myself not letting a border collie work with sheep at all
they are the best dogs ever - we had Tubby mum and a real sheepdog and Ruth and Pollo both very well farm dogs - Ruth was a cow dog - keeping all the cows out and horses in and Pollo more a sheepdog - need a lot of exercise but very loyal
Here I again noticed how funny sheepdog commands are. You have sit, stand, stop and lie down but whatever you say the dog will just stop and do whatever it wants staying there.
Why is the older dog dirty and the younger dog clean? And is their hearing lose due to the whistle? She seemed to be timit to your voice after the heading due to the whistle, is there a better way to heard sheep?
This is just incredible to watch. It makes me want to buy a herd of sheep so I can then get a border collie and watch her in action all day.
Well-treated working dogs are always so happy. Shows how much clarity about how to please their owners actually matters to a dog.
100% can't beat the body language of a working dog, nasty good.

While still able they help immensely in training the younger dogs. Retirement for our dogs just means riding around in the air conditioned truck watching the youngsters work 😂
Glad to hear it. I don't call being locked up in cage on its own and very dirty "a good retirement". This is just cruel in my eyes.

The breed is not big here in the States, unfortunately. Their size is 8 to 15 lbs, fully grown. They are, however fully functional as herd dogs. ❤
So enjoyed watching this
Dogs have been part of my life since I was four years old I convinced my parents I *would* take care of a male long-haired German Shepherd puppy that grew into a 120 pound beast of a dog, Little did I know at that time that my dog Butch Cassidy would teach me so much about life and death before I even turned sixteen years old. Now some 18 dogs later I'm still shedding tears over the loss of my last German Shepherd Dog. RIP, Amber girl. ♥🐕🦺♥
Thanks for the video. Me and my sheep dog lucky really enjoyed it ☺️
You're both very welcome! How's Lucky with their commands?
Hes a natural. I got him from Scotland 3 year's ago now from a beautiful lady who had a wonderful farm and his mother and farther were both working dog's. Hes a well loved pet now but everyone I meet while walking and training lucky says he would of been a fantastic working dog. I would love to see if he could work sheep like your new beautiful girl. Thank you very much for your video and look forward to seeing many more. Many thanks Phil and lucky woof 👍
My 8 month border collie is also a family dog but he enjoys herding sheep, and a good game of fetch
Excellent, I really enjoyed this. Where would I start when training my BC? Thanks.
She’s magnificent
So they stay in these boxes a lot?
I loved this!
I can't wait to try herding! I'm getting a puppy from a working line so I'm super excited. It won't be our main focus since I don't own a farm - we will be focusing on canicross, bikejoring and sports like obedience, nosework and agility but I would not be able to justify myself not letting a border collie work with sheep at all
Olive is so cute. I’ve never seen a wire hair Vizsla before, prettier than the smooth coat. She looks to have a sweet temperament.
they are the best dogs ever - we had Tubby mum and a real sheepdog and Ruth and Pollo both very well farm dogs - Ruth was a cow dog - keeping all the cows out and horses in and Pollo more a sheepdog - need a lot of exercise but very loyal
Aren't they just? They do require a lot exercise it's true, after all they're working dogs!
