I do agree! It does look nice in the sun, can't wait to see how the GWR Class 387 looks in the sun too now that's out on test.

The actual train would be called IET (Intercity express train) IEP means (Intercity Express programme)

I can't un-hear the slightly different rhythm of the bogies as they cross a rail joint.

as the didcot to oxford electrification has been delayed will they use electric to didcot then diesel to oxford or will they still use the hst

At the moment, GWR as a TOC have made no firm decision based off the
recent defferal of the GWML electrification, and are in talks with NR
and the DfT about how they should implement their government funded
IEP's now the electrification has been pushed back.
My best guess would be that GWR would introduce the IEP's in Summer 2017, as planned, but change the plan so that they run Diesel from Didcot onwards. They will remain like this until the rest of the electrification is completed. Doubt any of this will have an impact on the retirement of the HST as the IEP's are bi-modes.

Leo Martin i do think its also bad how there delaying 10 miles of track to Oxford when i dealt it would take that long

official explosive music and gaming what you don't consider is electrification preparation, making sure the surroundings are cut back, get bing enough space for pilings, adapting structures at stations for cables, and worst of all, how to manage the gantries once they reach Oxford. It may only be 10 miles, but it would take years to electrify.

    these will be electric?

Well, in a way, Yes. This is a Class 800/0. It is part of the Class 800 series by Hitachi meaning it's bi mode, electric and diesel motors. The Class 801 is all electric with no diesel motors. And the Class 802 is an extended range version of the 800 meant for long journeys on diesel power. The Class 802 would be perfect for London Kings X to Inverness and Aberdeen routes due to its extended range beyond the wires. The Class 801 would be suitable for the Kings X to Edinburgh route. And the Class 800 will do mostly Edinburgh routes, and maybe up to Dundee. That's for Virgin Trains East Coast's order.
In short, this train already is electric. All IEP trains have pantographs.

***** will the new Hitachi's to Bristol and Newbury be faster than the current old trains? How much will be chopped off journey times do you think (Pad-Newb and Bristol Temple Meads to Pad)?

    • @LeoMartinDJ

Yes they will be. The accelerator of a Class 800 or 801 or 802 will be much faster than the HST's, and will be able to reach line speed much quicker - both on Diesel and Electric motors. I reckon Newbury will be cut down by 5/10 minutes and Bristol will be cut down by up to 15 minutes maybe 20 minutes. After all, the line speed isn't changing, it's just the acceleration times that are. So the differences won't be huge unless they increased the line speed to above 125.

@@LeoMartinDJ I thought the 801 did have one emergency diesel generator for power failures?
