You’d have to add Jimi, Elvis, James Dean, Clint Eastwood and Brian Setzer to that group 😉. But yes, Jimmie Lee and The Fabulous Thunderbirds are the hippest ever.

They sound so good and Jimmie's guitar playing is electric. Great to hear them mention the Stray Cats.

Opening for the Rolling Stones on October 28, 1981 at the Houston Astrodome were ZZ Top and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds recorded their fourth album with Nick Cave as producer, T-Bird Rhythm, released in 1982. Kim Wilson was playing for a Minneapolis band called Aces, Straights & Shuffles in 1974 when Jimmie recruited him away to Austin, Texas. So if this was the band's nine-year mark, the interview likely dates from 1983. From knowing of Kim Wilson, I was aware enough to catch the T-Birds every time they came to The Cabooze in Minneapolis as soon as they began touring in the later 70's. I was also onboard to purchase all their albums as they came out back then. I saw many of the greatest bar bands and Chicago blues bands in those days and I still rank the T-Birds at the top of the class of white blues/R&B bands ever! They were wild on stage. I saw Kim come off the stage with an extra long mike cord, get up on the very long bartop, lay on his back while blowing harp and inch-worming practically to the front door. They'd just plain blow you away.

I was in Waco on a visit from down north when I was little boy age 6. I rode the train there and was up all night alone looking out the window looking for horses. Should have stayed there, but Stevie Ray and Jimmie always hid the Hoops couples dance clubs from me. Darn Heck.

I sat next to Fran (drummer far left) and Bill Carter at Stevie Ray Vaughan’s funeral. Kim sat behind me with Tommy and Kumi Shannon and Jimmy was sitting in the choir area to the stage right with their mom.

@@rhllnm the 70s were a great time to be in Austin. I was at UT from 1975-1979 and it really did seem like the center of everything as far as music goes. Everyone from Willie Nelson to the T Birds and SRV to the Rolling Thunder Review to rock groups that came here to launch their national tours. Plus The Clash and Devo coming here to shoot videos.

Saw Jimmie back in 2013 & along with his band 'Tilt O Whirl' & Lou Ann Barton ~ sounded great! Kind of 'difficult' to hear the guys speak of SRV, 'cause he was alive here & now he's been gone for over 25 yrs. & missed more than ever! But 'Tyrone Vaughan' ~ Jimmie's ONLY son IS AWESOME! If ya haven't checked him out ~ DO SO!!!! You will NOT be disappointed! Promise!

Yup, probably 85. They talk about Dave Edmunds producing the new album ("Tuff Enuff" was released in '86), and they play a version of "True Love" without the 2-chord in the bridge... Awesome band, and my favourite line-up! :-)

Seems to me the questions (as inane as some of them were) should have been directed at Fran.
Jimmie and Kim seemed either a bit uncomfortable or just thought it was a bother.

I was thinking the same.., some of the questions that were asked were absolutely stupid.., like he asked them if they were kinda afraid of making it to the big time..,? WTF

I wish that Jimmie and the other living members would reunite with Kim Wilson and do one more tour or album. Don't get me wrong, the current iteration of the Fabulous Thunderbirds is good, but not classic line-up good.
