    I like using Gemini mailer and find scotch tape a pain when opening. Blue painters tape is my go to. Great vid, enjoying your content.

    I appreciate the advice on how to ship these, but using the priority mail boxes to cut them up for free is definitely a no-no with the USPS. I got in trouble for this as far back as 2005!

    Great video! Can you do a follow up discussing shipping options and how you figure out shipping cost for your customers? For example: Do you print you own mailing labels, do you drop off your shipments at the USPS or do you have USPS pickup your shipments. Thanks!

    I only sell graded books so I use a combination of the 1095 inside a 16x 4x 14. I had 2 incidents where even double boxed the book was still damaged. I have now swapped to a 1095 with slab shippers foam. Inside a 16x4x14 box. Zero damage so far. Yes, it's adds about 3bux per shipment, but the fact that I don't have to pay for returns is a huge relief.

    For graded books one of the best usps methods I have seen is actually using a 1092 inside of a 1095. The box is almost indestructible.

    I believe that U-Line has warehouses spread around the U.S. They are not always the cheapest but they typically have a thicker guage cardboard for better protection.
    For packing material, I keep a couple of large garbage bags that I fill with the packing material that comes in stuff that is sent to me. It’s recycled and costs nothing, so win/win.

    Great vid as always! Have used that Medium Flat Rate box many times! :) What do you think about using blue painter's tape on the interior packaging to make it easier for the customer to unwrap the books once they've opened the box?

    • @ComicBookInvestments
      @ComicBookInvestments  2 роки тому

      Yes it is better. But I send a ton of comics. And painters tape is much more expensive. It adds up over time

    As someone that doesn’t have a whole lot of money, I like to reuse, repurpose, and recycle all the shipping/packaging materials that’s used for he things my family and I buy. Also, it’s amazing that videos like this need to be made. Like, I do this stuff when I send comics. I guess it’s a combination of stupidity and laziness that results in poorly packaged comics. 😶😑

    • @ComicBookInvestments
      @ComicBookInvestments  2 роки тому +1

      Ya it’s fine to reuse boxes. I recommend that if the boxes are in nice shape. Because. No point in spending more money and putting more trash in the planet

    I wouldn't suggest mailing by media mail because the post office at their discretion can open your box of comics, look through them, color in them with crayons, step on them, keep a couple of them, then throw them back in the box tape it back up and send it back to you so you can resend it the proper way. No kidding! I knew a retired post master.

    • @ComicBookInvestments
      @ComicBookInvestments  2 роки тому +2

      It all depends on what the customer wants. I have some customers that don’t want to pay the $6 first class. And want media mail for $3. So I leave it up to them. They don’t ever open them though. I think maybe once that has happened in the 13 years and 100k packages

    • @OomaGooma
      @OomaGooma 2 роки тому +1

      I’m afraid to take the chance with Media Mail. Yeah the chances are slim that USPS will open the package and check but I’d rather not have to deal with that just in case. If people want to use media mail then more power to them. I’ll begrudgingly pay the extra money for first class (or priority if I’m feeling extra impatient).

    If any sellers/shippers read this, PLEASE avoid media mail if possible. Many post offices including mine have been cracking down on comic books and media mail. Over the past year I’ve had at least 25 books/shipments get hit with inspections, they find out they’re comics and inevitably charge me like another $3-4. Every time. I’ve had many talks with higher ups at the postal service and they’re sticking to the no ads bullshit. If it is a comic it doesn’t matter what year it came out, it automatically gets hit with a fee or whatever they do. I think they weigh it or something and figure out the postage. Very annoying! I’ll gladly pay a little more for guaranteed first class shipping.

    • @ComicBookInvestments
      @ComicBookInvestments  2 роки тому +1

      Most everything I send it first class. The only reason I’ll do media mail is if the customer doesn’t want to pay the high price and then I send it media mail at their request. But risk reward. I never get anything sent back or flagged though.
