- Photographer, Sunil Gupta, demonstrates how to make a gelatin silver print using a negative from his first photographic body
of work, ‘Christopher Street’, in 1976.
The black and white photographs, shot on the streets of downtown New York, offer a snapshot of everyday life and the excitement of the gay liberation movement, including Gupta's own participation in it.

Such beautiful photographs. I’d like to learn more about Gupta’s life and work.
I remember my father doing this back in the 1970s.
Fascinating. Love the behind the scenes, hands on perspective.
You *really* ought to add some commentary notes about processes have to be done in complete darkness else it creates a wrong impression for novice viewers of what, for example, developing a film negative is really like.
I took a photography class in high school and having to do everything in pitch black, including cutting the film from the plastic roll, was harrowing 😂 it was a lot of fun though. I hated the smells of fixer and all the chemicals but I enjoyed the process once I learned it.

Is it weird that I loved the smell of those chemicals? 😅
Takes me back to my grandfather's studio, in the 1960s, through 1980s.
Viewing this video, is pure joy. 🕯.
Love this short film. Such interesting content.
It's a little bit sad to see this process shows up in a museum channel.
