I start as an intern at Supercuts tomorrow! May seem underwhelming but I’m 17 in high school, beauty school, and have no work experience !! Pretty big accomplishment for me aha
Ive started at a salon about a month ago while still in cosmetology school working only weekends and remaining humble is deff the most best way to get thru it all and knowing you have to sacrifice now to enjoy later. Ty for this video
Hey! I JUST GOT MY FIRST JOB AS AN ASSISTANT AT A VERY NICE SALON. not going to lie my aunt has been working with them for 10 years and she out a good word in for me and they hired me on the stop but I always wanted to do hair and it is my passion. I am just overwhelmed because I do not want to disappoint anyone or make any mistakes that is my biggest fear. I want to help and learn as much as I can because I do want to go to school and eventually become a professional stylist one day. Thanks for the video though it helped me calm my nerves:)
Just found your channel and want to tell you thank you for the content!!! Starting school in exactly a week and I am excited/anxious. 37 year old father of three and finally getting to start my dream career. Thank you bud!!!
Hi, Salon Guy! I’m an assistant myself and I shared this with another assistant because sometimes we do feel down and out but what this video showed me is that we are not crazy! We’re hardworking! And we try our best everyday. And I’m so happy to know that our hard work is recognized even when we feel like we’re not being noticed. This is truly valuable advice and thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you Salon Guy for all of your tutorials in cutting hair. You have taught me a lot. I am a Salon Assistant and have graduated from TAFE NSW in 2018 I am always early for my shifts and always use my incentive where my job takes me. I am now completing 245 hours Industry placement to gain a place in the Certificate 3 Hairdressing. I am very appreciative
Hi....just wanted to say I APPRECIATE YOU! I'm in cosmetology school and I'm starting late in the game. I'm looking for a tech positions while I am in school. I needed so badly to hear this advice. Thanks for the love & passion you bring to your channel. I'm taking notes.
I used to work as an assistant at a hair salon in Richmond, VA (Carytown), and I was treated like crap no matter if I was good or bad at my job. I've been overworked, overwhelmed, and unpaid. There's one time when the owner threatened to throw my mannequin onto the dumpster because she doesn't want to see it on the salon floor. Last year, I decided that I had enough, so I packed up my stuff and leave
@@zakkiyyahjudgeWhat a blitch. Screw her then. Shame her back. I'd be like, "are you that mentally retarded that instead of knowing to verbally say something, you just chuck it like an idiot?" Just be like "you're nothing relax. You've proven nothing, but chuck a tantrum, you're pathetic".
Omg I connected from the start, especially starting off as an Assistant, it’s hard Nd sometimes I want to quit but hearing this Video, I WANT TO WORK 10x HARDER!!! thank you for Reality check!!
I started as a personal assistant about two weeks ago, and am struggling with wash bowl conversations (especially after a year of quarantine) as well as rinsing the back of the neckline. halp lol
aww you got this!! conversations will def get easier, as for the back get them to turn left & right and rinse that nape area with water thoroughly. you can also finish with a hot wet towel and wipe the nape as the last touch
I’m going in a cosmetology school, and I work in hair salon as well as a assistant. The salon that I’m working now use to be my “dream” salon. Its always so busy,if it’s not I make my self busy cleaning or organizing tools.I make sure everything is ready before the client seats in the chair.I was thinking that oh I’m working wayyy to much and notttt making money, but I’m learning so much,I pay attention to the hairstyles what they do,how they communicate with clients, how they sale themselves, because I want to grow.I try to educate my self.Im surrounding my self with professionals, people that have experience.Being a assistant has a huge role in salon. And no I don’t have time not one minute to stay on my phone 📲 And yeah i do a show in my salon as well lo ,I get compliments from every client that come in salon, they compliment the way my hair look,or the way I talk with them,or the way I work with the hairstylists, the vibe that I give to them.WORK HARD PLAY HARD! 👍
Hello Steven! Thank you so much for your advice, it's lovely to hear what is expected from a junior/assistant from a sophisticated, successful and reputable stylist's own mouth; I've been a junior stylist for six months now and your guidance is so refreshing and helps me stay on track! I really appreciate the time you've dedicated to making this - thank you.
Thanks as a 16 y.o. girl , a new assistant, i realized these things pretty much on my own .. thank god 🙏 i assist someone whom i live in the same house with - my uncle's wife, and she's not too rude with me. But from time to time i feel that i must be strong and do what im ordered to do as long as im an assistant. That's the way to higher levels, bigger achievements and a bright future 🌟
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I’m going to Aveda about to graduate and am on the freaking out mode. But your videos have helped me going into this industry with just the desire of doing hair and the knowledge that has been taught to me. So is been a roller coaster for me. I’m researching like crazy videos of the important factors of being a successful cosmetologist and key points of hair to fully understand hair. From very beginning to end about hair, the industry of a salon, the pros and cons of being a cosmetologist and salons, the service ( service cycle wheel) from consultations to the actual services, to retail, tricks and tips on technique’s, and so on. So thank you so much for sharing your experiences, knowledge, and guidance it’s very much appreciated.
Wow! This was extremely helpful. Yes! I feel like I've been doing all the dirty work for my boss but doesn't consider me as "assistant" but as a stylist. Ive been there for 1 1/2 years and get paid commission so I hate it. Im looking for an assistant job but at a higher end salon bc getting paid 200$ weekly for me is not cutting it for me in LA :(
Thankyou very much for this because i was feeling so down today.i wish i had of watched this alot sooner...im an assistant and im the only one for 6 stylists and im go all day long .i rarely get a break and when i do its short lived.ive gone home and broken down to my partner who stays home to care for our 2 boys 3yrs an 9 yrs old who i havent had any time with them since i cant remember when because if im home then im working from my home salon or trying to practice and upskill my self or im asleep otherwise im at work. I try not to be too sensitive when i get ridden all day long by my boss..even though i clean everything and i mean everything help all the stylists and try to tend to reception because we dont have a receptionist restock the salon twice a month and try to get my colum of clients for the day copleted on time...its nice to know that im not alone and i hope one day it will all pay off.
I honestly wasn't looking forward to watching videos for class online, because I learn better in person. But after watching this video, I received a lot of information about this topic and I was very interested while watching.
I am watching this because I have an application for salon assistant and tomorrow is my job interview. Im going to keep all these in my mind 😁. thank you
I was an assistant for years way before i even got a hair license and it was a very nice upscale salon and actually i enjoyed that much better than actually doing hair. Ill be ur assistant Salon Guy! Lol
Hi my name CaseyMaia I’ve been an assistant for 6 months now and I must say that it has been an amazing rollercoaster. Like he said you have to be HUMBLE and learn and work. I have been blessed to find 3 mentors but I will be lying if say it’s easy no it’s not and it’s not for the weak but if it’s your passion it’s so worth it . Good luck keep me updated if your assistant as well

Great knowledge😂
Ah thank you so much!!
Thank you so much for making such a video. #motivationiskey
Awesomeness
Could you do a video for someone who has been out of the industry and want to restore his or her license later in life?
Salons are like fraternities hazing assistants. I would never, ever attempt to assist again.
Thank you for this as I'm being treated not nice
Great video
I want to do barber assistant training
Thank you
What should an assistant resume look like.?? please make a video..
Agreed!!!
as a salon model who advertises for the company will that lend me into having a good second job at a salon ???
Thankyou Sir
Is an assistant a volunteer position or do you get paid?
😮
❤👏
Your a sweetheart
But hairstists needs to be outrageously , a humble hairstylist will do flooded oil gauche hair do and a bold gave a damn attitude stylist will do an actual good hair do job , atleast me this way
Video and info good. But damn i cant unsee when working with beards that ur lines are not symmetrical but yeah video cool
This isn't normal in my state.
Ok
You’d have to be crazy to go to beauty school. Hairdressers need A Union! It’s a crap job without one. No 401k, Health Care, sick days,etc..
You a stylist?
Tara Gutierrez are you a stylist?
Im not a huge fan of unions.
That’s funny, my salon offers to match me on a 401k and I also get paid vacation time after a year. Guess I like being crazy enough to love what I do every day
most sure where you worked but some do have all of the things you. mentioned. its 2022 not 1947.
