A quick note: The issue with top shop sizing is a side effect of fast fashion. They don't have consistent sizing bc they outsource the production to different parts of the world who then use their own template/models when manufacturing the clothing piece. The denim material (unsanforised) & the stitching method used for the twist in the & other stories jeans. Ultimately, the same reason for the sizing for top shop, fast fashion. The brand loses the ability to create a quality product if they outsource the manufacturing process to different countries.
FYI: It's also a good way to tell if you're buying fast fashion for those who aren't familiar with company names/company umbrellas/groups, this can be confusing to some of us who aren't spending massive amounts of time researching. I use this bit of knowledge as a cheat when I shop in an attempt to avoid fast fashion to the best of my abilities anyway.
Great review as always Lizzy. You buy it & review it so we don't have to. ;)

My tip for the levi’s: I wear knee socks by Falke underneath them so that there’s no weird gap! If you pair black boots with black or dark grey knee socks it looks really chic and keeps you warm! And in Germany they do offer them in different lenghts online :)

Hi Lizzy, thanks for the epic video. I get that Weekday make really affordable and great looking jeans but they are all manufactured in countries that are notorious for poor working conditions. I think this should influence the purchasing decision more than pricing (especially if the difference is 10-20£). I feel like fashion bloggers never talk the actual countries clothes are manufactured in and a lot of viewers will watch this video and go out and purchase a pair of Weekday jeans, when maybe they should be purchasing the Everlane ones. Hopefully this doesn't come across as overly negative.

    • @lenag9796
      @lenag9796 4 роки тому +2

Hej :) just wanted to add that how it is produced has nothing to do with the pricing. Everlane and arket are slightly better than the others but aren’t really sustainable when it comes to it. Please don’t let yourself get fooled that high price = better quality = higher manufacturing standards. Neither the conditions for workers nor environmental standards are better because of pricing 🙆🏼‍♀️

in general, re-done is just too expensive for what it is. they’re really nice clothes, and they sell amazing basics all in one place, but i always wait to see what they put in their sale on black friday/cyber weekend. got a graphic tee for €44 instead of 100-and-something and some shorts for ~80 instead of like 150. not very wintert but oh well 😂

you have to keep in mind that they’re an ethical and sustainable company. fast fashion pricing has really skewed how we see prices, but clothes shouldn’t be as cheap as they are in fast fashion stores. think about the people making your clothes, if you’re paying $5 for a shirt, how much do you think the person that made it got paid?

I’ve come back to this video 3 times already. Every time some influencer swears that some jeans are worth $250 and I feel sad because I just can’t justify that expense on my budget, I come back to Lizzy’s logic. There’s a sweet spot for influencers in terms of their effectiveness at “influencing” and Lizzy nails it.

This makes me so excited for the Everlane Cheekies that are currently en route to me! I've also tried ReDone and was disappointed in the fit (the stovepipes). My fave higher end denim are Paige and AG, the fit it always bang on, they wear and wash so beautifully.

LOVE EVERLANE! I have 3 pairs and I wore them as my uniform for a retail job 5 days a week for a year and they wore so well. They also offer a style called the 90s cheeky rather than regular cheeky and the 90s has no stretch so they are a tad more durable. ❤️❤️

In Europe the Ribcage is only available in 27 or 29 length right now. In spring 2019 they hat a "selvedged" version with croped leg in 32 Inch length. It is made of thickest denim of all Levi's I ever saw. They weight more than 800 g.

For shorter girls (I’m 5’5), longer jeans aren’t really an issue because you can just get them re-hemmed. I loved the fit of the Arket ones and I had no issue with the leg length because I can just get them tailored.

Such a great & informative video! Seriously though, it is crazy that all these brands have jeans that you can fit into! I'm 5'4 and a size 10 with a fairly small waist & big bum and when I say that 1/20 pairs of jeans fit me, I'm not exaggerating. There's always just such massive gaping at the back! I used to work in Levis and had to resort to wearing skirts and dresses on uniform because I couldn't fit any of the jeans properly. When you were saying you wish you had a big bum I was like nope... Lizzy, you do not! Because otherwise this video would have taken years to film purely because finding 10 pairs of jeans that fit would have been such a challenge!
If anyone has any recommendations for jeans for people my size I'd really appreciate it! I have a pair of the Weekday Voyage jeans which I like but they still gape meaning I have to wear them with a belt. Other than that, the only pairs have found that I like are vintage!

I picked up a pair of the original cheeky straight jeans from everlane last month and I quite like them. They’re like the 90’s ones you got but with a little stretch. I’ve found with the high waist, a tiny bit of stretch is more forgiving when you sit down.

The Seattle jeans I have tried to buy like 10 times already because of you, I think I am a similar size to you that’s why I find it so strange but I couldn’t find any size that’d fit me. I think 25 waist looked fine when I was standing up but when sitting down there was a huge gap between the jeans and my back if you know what I mean, which to me looks super annoying. I tried the smallest size but it was just too small so I ended up with no Seattle jeans and now I’m even more so annoyed that you’ve put them in the first place 😂 oh The Jean Drama

I bought Levi’s 501 Skinny and Ribcage, both in waist 27. A tape measure around my waist measures 28-29”. The 501’s fit perfectly, with breathing room, whereas I couldn’t even button the Ribcage. Sucking in as much as possible there was still about 1.5cm gap. I’ve been trying for a week to exchange the 27 for a 28, but Levi’s customer service is HORRIBLE (my size isn’t available in the exchange menu even though it’s in stock online).

Ahh, I've been so excited for this episode! I actually have the Agolde and the Levi's (I also used to own the Everlane pair), and I had similar thoughts on those. The denim on Agolde is really good, but not enough to justify spending so much more when there are other high street jeans with a better fit.
Through the video talked about leg length and how certain pairs would be good for people with a certain height. One thing I want to add to this is that knowing your inseam measurement is super important. I'm 5'5," but I have long legs and a 30" inseam, so I tend to have a hard time finding jeans that aren't too cropped.
The Arket and Weekday pairs will be my next jeans purchases--so good!

I'm plus size and I don't think very many of these brands do plus size but I still really loved this video! If you ever wanted to do a part two or a different fit of jeans I could think of at least 10 brands I'd love to see you test but I think that would have to be a while from now because you're probably worn out from denim testing. I cannot believe how awful some of the fits were 😂 Looks wise my favorite were the & Other Stories but I'm partial to a lighter wash so that's probably a big part of it. My two favorite brands for plus size denim, in case any other plus size ladies out there see this, are Warp + Weft and they have a really good selection of washes and style and the other is more new to me and it's DL1961 but their plus size selection isn't as good but the fit is much better (they're both not cheap or affordable though, Warp + Weft is around the $100 mark for most of their jeans and I think DL1961 might be over $150).

Hi Lizzie, I wonder if you would consider doing a different kind of Testing Basics where you would find the best option for people with a different body type. I feel like for you it often comes down to the fit and the style you're going for but if we're being really honest, because you fit into the current beauty standards, most items of clothing will fit you anyway, but finding the perfect straight leg jeans would be more challenging for shorter/curvier people for example. With your input, we can get an idea of what brand would be the better quality, but it's still hard to imagine what fit would suit different body types best.
Violette (violette_fr) did this recently to find the perfect white tshirt and I thought it was really helpful. Just an idea!

Patricia L this is a brilliant suggestion! I’m short and pear shaped and already know the Seattle jeans sadly don’t work for me (after trying from Lizzy’s previous recommendation)!

Same here, Weekday jeans didn’t fit me at all. I have a curvier figure. Try the Levi’s ribcage, they’re amazing on me, flattering and comfortable.

I think the idea is great but her body is not curvy or short and she probably doesn’t know the struggle to find jeans for different body types. She only knows the struggle for her own body type. She’s really helpful when it comes to quality, fabric, wash etc. It’s not really realistic for her unless she has friends with different body types that are willing to test clothes with her. It would be better to find a youtuber or bloggger with your body type if you want to know the fit.

@@serenity8910 I personally have a body type that's similar to Lizzy's, I just thought it would make her series more appealing to a broader audience -- it's harder work for sure because it would mean enlisting the help of a friend willing to be filmed, asking to borrow clothes from brands etc. but it might be worth it

Great video Lizzy - you put so much effort in. I'm 501 vintage levi's all the way - I think my fave ones are actually mens ones that I tapered the leg in on slightly as they were very straight leg and I prefer a bit of a taper as I'm shorter

Those Levi's Ribcage must be the cropped version. I have a pair of the Ribcage Straight jeans in leg 29, I'm 5'9 and they are not short at all! They fit perfectly

Amazing video! Thank you for all the work you put into it. Would you consider collaborating with someone with a different body type for videos like this? I know the everlane jeans don't work for me (small waist, bigger bum, so some jeans are just really uncomfortable in the crotch or just aren't flattering). I know this would be EVEN MORE work, but it would be extremely helpful!

I recently grabbed a pair of distressed ribcage jeans for black friday in a length 32 and they were super long despite my being 5'10. Luckily they were a raw hem so I trimmed them shorter myself, but I feel as though the cropped style is a bit too cropped and the longer style are a bit too long for most people.

the Uniqlo jeans in the darker wash seem to have less elastane in them or something, because they give much, much less than the lighter ones. I have the dark blue pair and they feel like such expensive denim, but my friend has multiple pairs in lighter washes and they all give at the waist and knee. don't know why they're different aside from inconsistent production but they are!

Super helpful video! Two questions: 1) Where is your cardigan from? And 2) do you think you could put your measurements in the description box or something? Most of the jean reviews on YT are done on people with a way straighter or curvier figure than I am, and measurements would help me gauge what the fit would be on me.

Great video :-D I am 168 cm tall (5.5/5.6 i think) and i like my jeans to crop a bit (not a lot) and I have such a difficult time finding a pair that is made for my hight or have my leg length. I think most brands make jeans for women who are quit tall. Even weekday. Am I the only one who struggles?

I would not size up in the rib cage! I wear mine maybe 2-3 times a week, and they really stretched out on me after regular use. Very uncomfortable in the beginning, now absolutely perfect.

Loved this video since I'm looking for another pair! Will give the the Levi ones a try since I'm a bit shorter. :)
Wanted to leave a note on the weekday jeans; although their choice is great, they've never lasted me long. I've had three pairs of their 'Way' jeans which al ripped within 6 months. There 'Seattle' jeans lasted me 3 weeks before all of the pockets were really badly torn... My bf has the same experience with their jeans so it's not just me tearing jeans apart. No weekday jeans for me anymore.
