Queen's keyboard player Spike Edney saw this and immediately called Roger Taylor to bring Adam to Queen's attention. At the same time people were also emailing Brian May to have him watch the video. The rest is history!
My favourite Adam fact is that he auditioned with a Queen song and then ended up as their frontman. I didn't see the American Idol performances until years later (not in US) but so many of them are great.
Honestly, the first time I heard of Adam Lambert was when we were considering buying Queen + Adam Lambert concert tickets. I myself only knew of Adam coming from Amercian Idol, we hadn't watched the show at all, so we were going to that concert blind not knowing how good he would be. Much to our surprise we were amazed at how well he can perform! He's no Freddie Mercury that's for sure and he wasn't trying to be either, just like in this video reaction that caught me off guard, he added his own flair to the song and this one is one of my favorites from Led Zeppelin. he also paid homage to Freddie which was very nice of him. That young man has a wonderful stage presence, and he connects with the audience quite well too. Our minds were blown just to put it that way. I enjoyed your reaction! Peace. ☮
You are correct, American Idol is where he was discovered. He was in a class by himself! Paula couldn’t get enough of him, she would stand and cheer the entire time he would perform! His range is just insane!
Slash was the mentor for this week on American Idol. Adam always listened to the feedback (and it was rare that he really got any). He crafted his own performance every time. But Slash did give him feedback, saying he shouldn't "improvise" so much in his upper register for this song - resulting in what you just heard, the metal scream of the glory note. He's not just the best singer in the world, but he also is incredibly wise.
You need to watch the finale when he performs with Queen. You can clearly see Brian May performing next to him and being in awe of his talent. The rest is history.
Yes Brian seems a bit in shock. The way he moves toward Adam ….. tells the story. Kris was a different kind of performer and was very good but he’s not Adam! This finale shows the difference!
Adam Lambert was 27 when he decided to audition for AI, but he didn't think he'd make it, he is openly gay and a theatre kid:; his parents put him into the Metropolitan Educational Theatre Company in southern California, when he was 8 years old and also paid for voice lessons, two things AI didn't like. He had earned his SAG card by the time he was 18, at 18, he spent a year on cruise ship singing etc., then he applied for multiple musical theatre productions, he was cast in Hair, which ran in Germany for 2 years, then Germany decided it needed to be in German and teaching Americans German for a musical didn't work. He came back to the U.S. and was cast The Ten Commandments etc. then landed a part in Wicked, where he was the backup singer for Fiyero. He decided he wanted to be a rock star then found out it was tough to make it even though Monty Pittman and others helped him, so he begged Wicked to take him back and they did for 2 years in L.A. To be a contestant on AI, he had to give up all his professional attachments & contracts. Queen's keyboard player heard him singng this song and notified Brian and Roger. They came to the last show and sang with the 2 finalists, they said the other guy was great but Adam fit right in with them. Adam didn't win because someone started digging and although he was out as gay, it made headlines so he lost. I don't remember who won, he was nice singer though. Queen talked to Adam about performing with them, but for the first year he had to take his own show Glam Nation around the world. Then Queen won the European Musical Award & asked Adam Lambert to sing for them, he did & it went well. Adam thought it would be a one off since he knew stepping into the shoes of Freddie Mercury would be daunting. The gig that ended up leading him to be the frontman for Queen was in front of 500,000 + people in Kiev, the other name on te marque was Elton John. No pressure. It was broadcast on radio and TV, Adam omly had a week to rehearse while Queen knew these songs like the back of their hands. Due to his theatrical background the keyboard player gave him cues as to when he needed to enter. It went well. Then Iheart radio wanted Queen + Adam Lambert to play in a show broadcast from Vegas. The rest speaks for itself, the last shows they did in the U.S. sold out in 24 hours; Adam tours with Queen approximately 6 to 18 weeks a year, he has released 5 albums, does voice overs for cartoons and has wriitten a musical, which has not yet been released. He is currently a Judge on The Voice in Australia & will be there until the end of April. He is a well known philanthropist & works hard to help LBTGQ youth. His estimated net worth is $45 million dollars. He's lucky he didn't win because then he would have to had to get out of the AI contracts. However, he feels that he wouldn't be where he is today without AI & steps up if they ask him to perform. Brian and Roger both said he's now family & Adam says the same thing about them. Simon Cowell told Adam after he sang his cover of "Chandelier" on AGT "that he was one of the nicest people in show business." Queen+Adam Lambert opened for the Queen of England's Platinum Jubilee, Adam is standing on the stairs of Buckingham Palace with the Queen's drummers playing beside him, he said it was the most surreal moment of his life and he was so interested in looking at the Palace and the audience, he had to remind himself he was there to work. That's the long & short of a complicated story, there's a documentary that was on Netflix about why Queen chose Adam Lambert which is no longer there, but I think there are some you-tube videos of that show that you- tube broadcasters recorded, the names something like "The Queen + Adam Lambert Story, The Show Must Go On". BTW if you are looking for another song to broadcast find the black and white one of him singing that song in London.
I find it funny that I don’t remember they guy who won either but I do definitely remember Adam! Also the fact that he lost because he is gay (which he didn’t hide, he just didn’t announce it) is very sad! Being gay does not affect the way he sings!
Oh thanks for reminding me of that moment. I remember all of Adam’s performances were so above everyone else’s, but I feel his showmanship was sometimes misunderstood. I wasn’t even surprised when he came second, he was way bigger than a tv talent show imho. I think no other could step into Freddy Mercury’s shoes so perfectly respectful 🫶
Listen to his performance on Glee, shows you he can act, sing and do anything . Also his covers album High Drama is great,Holding out for a Hero is a cover that he makes his own.
Adam was performing before Idol but was still an unknown- This performance is what sparked Queen’s interest. I seriously do not understand how he isn’t bigger than he is. He is amaaazing! I LOVED your reaction! Keep the Adam reactions coming!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I just threw this up on one of the Glambert sites to bring you more views- thank you!!!!’ ❤. It’s insaaaaane he didn’t even win
In my opinion, he did the most shocking but cool twist on country music night. He took Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash and gave it a middle eastern sound. If you like this guy, I strongly suggest that you give it a whirl. It's definitely worth listening to. Even if you're not a country fan.
This was the first thing I heard from Adam. The AI enthusiasts came in and said how horrible it was so I just had to check out the train wreck myself. As a Johnny Cash fan, I heard this version and I was entranced. I told those ladies that this was the best thing I had heard in a long time. Adam singing a Johnny Cash song written my June Carter Cash about their romance. Adam made it feel dangerous and sensual and like you could get burned in the fire.
What's nice about seeing these reactions, so many years later, is what reactors are getting to listen to Adam Lambert without all the surrounding... I can't even figure out the right word... push back? He was ahead of his time. Many people were affronted by his own sexuality, confused by an aggressively gay singer. He also confused many on his Idol run by his approach to classic songs, presenting so many different styles and colors that he couldn't be easily categorized into a single style. For his fans, this was a breath of fresh air. To his detractors, it was disrespect and just being theatrical. It's been nearly fifteen years now, and all that fuss is in the past. Now, vocal coaches and musicians are looking at his work more calmly, and seeing his work for what it is. It's been a long time coming, and I'm glad to see it.
Love this! I watched that whole season of American Idol. He was amazing... and didn't win.... I think it was probably a good thing that he didn't. Love that he made an awesome career out of it after this. He's goes above and beyond in all his performances in my opinion. Love that you can hear his awesomeness and like most are always hungry for more.❣❣❣
I watched all of his performances on American Idol and he blew me away every time! There have been other rock singers on the show but none compare to him.
Adam is hands down my favorite vocalist. Always excited to see what he is going to do next. Thanks for your reactions. You really seem very knowledgeable and I love your attitude.
Oh he's so good. And seeing Adam sing live is a whole other story. His voice goes through you. Saw him with Queen in Italy a couple of years ago and there he surprised everyone by singing Nessun dorma 😭😭 I'd be happy with anything you review of his because it will not disappoint!
Adam Lambert had been in three professional musicals by the time he was eighteen years old. He went to a musical theatre school on weekends, from the time he was 8 yeas old on, so he had a Screen Actor's Guild card by the time he was 18. He enrolled in CSU Fullerton in CA, he was from San Diego and lasted 5 weeks in a classroom since at that time he was performing in Grease in San Diego and found sitting in a classroom boring. His parents said fine but we're not paying your bills, so he did what every starving artist does, worked in retail, as a waiter, sold make up etc. After AI, he was cast a few times in Glee, the performance I remember Is Lady Ga's Ga's Marry the Night, something else to check out, that's why he is such a great performer. He also filled in for Meatloaf in a movie which is a cult classic and did a great job. Meatloaf said before he passed on and it's online, "Adam Lambert has what Meatloaf called an overdrive and he, Meatloaf, has only heard two other singers in the world that have that overdrive and they are Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin. That's why his vocal range is so incredible. Queen hired him not only because they liked him and they all got along well, but then Queen discovered that Adam Lambert can sing the all of the songs in the Queen catalog and Queen had listened to really good vocalists that couldn't even come close to doing that. Brian May has said Adam Lambert's voice is one in a million.
Which one. There are two of them. One he did after just after dress rehearsal for Ten Commandments: The Musical and he was reprimanded for wearing fingernail polish. The first one was from The Zodiak Show uploaded June 2009. ua-cam.com/video/xrcAWtVhb0c/v-deo.html
He also consistently brought the musicians front and center in his Idol performances. He understood how essential they all are for the whole performance
Adam has been my favourite vocalist of all time for 15 years. Enjoying your reactions to his voice! Now that I know that metal is your thing, you simply must react to Adam's performance of Enter Sandman in New Zealand in 2010. It will blow you away, I promise: ua-cam.com/video/neDIREuF6D8/v-deo.html
I was actually going to add this to my April request list for you after seeing you react to some other Adam performances as this was the moment I fell in love with his voice all those years ago ... 🙂
Check out On the Moon from the Late Late Show with James Cordon show for a slower side and one of my favorites from way back is Underneath live from cape town Nov 13, 2012. Glad he's on your radar now, looking forward to more great reactions. ☺
I’ve loved him since American Idol. This was first time the show got approval from Led Zeppelin to perform it. That was because it’s Adam!!! Unmatched. Thanks for going ‘Down the Rabbit Hole.’--name of one of his songs on VH 1 Unplugged. 😊 ua-cam.com/video/B8I_aClOd0c/v-deo.htmlsi=NgfgiMPOuk-U4Ch3
I’ve seen him on his own twice and with queen twice. He is mesmerizing on stage. All attention is on him. Who wants to live forever gave me chills both times…it was made for his voice they just didn’t know it yet.
When he performed Who Wants To Live Forever with Queen on Isle of Wight, after the slaughter at Pulse Night Club, he tore the stage apart--with his soul and vocally.
When you said "it's hard to keep a talent like this under cover"... IIRC he'd been touring with a theatre group, but not getting recognition other than being given lots of understudy parts because he could do ALL of them; had been with his mates in a band, but... ... people he worked with recognised he had talent, but it all never translated to anything bigger. Going onto American Idol was a big risk for him, and he saw it almost like a last big chance for him, he'd had to give up his steady-paying theatre job to even audition, with no assurances he'd even make the cut to reach the televised shows. And it was the *last* year he'd be eligible to join Idol, (he was getting too old to qualify for it). It was a close thing. If he hadn't taken that risk, we'd never have heard of him.
The 2-HR documentary Queen produced THE SHOW MUST GO ON contains a music editor who said this was the #1 performance on Ai ever. It hardly matters b/c any year you check the Top 10 best Ai performances - Adam has 4 or 5 of them.
I have watched this at least a dozen times. Your reactions are priceless. If you really want to hear him hit some insane notes listen to Adam covering Born to Be Wild on American Idol. So, looking forward to more Adam reactions. A big thank you to Madison G.
I might have missed it, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone react to Adam performing “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?” On Jimmy Fallon. He deconstructs this song and creates such an atmospheric, slightly moody rendition that he made me love a song that I didn’t really like all that much. I think you’ll really have fun with this one. I don’t know if you read these comments, but if you do, I would appreciate your reacting to this.
I still can’t believe he didn’t win that show! It’s not that it matters at this point but come on seriously! Please react to his Idol performance of Born To Be Wild!
I started following Adam when he was on American Idol (2009).. and, as many have mentioned, this is when Queen first saw him and his journey started with them. Queen was ultimately asked to come and perform for the finals of this season - Adam and one other contestant were the final two.. they both sang with Queen that night. Of course Adam didn’t win.. but it was probably a blessing in disguise! Also.. this was the first time Led Zep had allowed anyone to cover any of their songs on American Idol.. and I don’t believe anyone has since (They’re VERY picky!!) Great reaction.. thank-you!
He’s such an incredible singer, his vocal range is off the charts and he’s an amazing performer as well. I have been a fan of his since the first time I saw him on American Idol. Many years later, I was lucky enough to see him touring with queen. I’m a huge queen fan never thinking anybody could fill Freddy shoes, and I stand by that, however, his chemistry with the band, and his ability to sing the songs his way, while honoring the original work is magical. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to in my life and I’ve been to a lot. I would recommend Adam Lambert doing another cover song, him singing the song believe by Cher at the Kennedy awards, it will blow your mind esp. if your familiar with the original song, he took an upbeat, pop song, and turned it into a beautiful heart wrenching ballad & brought Cher to tears in the audience
Adam is an incredible singer and IMO if not the best... one of the best vocalist of this generation. you need to react to Adam and his performance of "west coast" at KOKO that was amaziing!
I was at Koko, I could not believe my ears, his performance of West Coast was out of this world. Adam really needs to go for rock, that's where he stands out as the very best
That performance was the beginning of Queen's interest in Adam. The keyboard player, Spike, heard Adam hit that last "glory' not, effortlessly. He contacted Roger Taylor, and said "Hey you've got to hear this kid. " People kept writing in to Brian and Roger saying the same time. They did their first performance together on the Idol finale. That was the night history was made. The whole story of Adam and Queen is on you tube in a special called "The Show Must Go On."
It's a great attitude to have: to listen to different genres. I do that too as much as I can - a good song or a good singer are good, period, regardless of genre. And Adam Lambert is truly exceptional, as someone who can sing pretty much anything and make it incredible & exciting every single time
I love how much you appreciate Adam. He has one of the best voices in the world! Been a fan since Idol. I’ve seen him in concert with Queen and twice in solo concerts. Always amazing!!!
I’m a longtime AL fan with & without Queen. My friends & I had tickets to see them at Wembley, London but the concert was cancelled due to Covid. Luckily for us we got to see Adam solo doing his High Drama concert @ The Royal Albert Hall last June. He is beyond phenomenal live! Anyhoo am sending a couple of other links showing Adams diverse singing abilities, as you realised he is a genre chameleon. Really love your reactions & understanding of the performer. I remember his performances on American Idol in 2009. He was a force to recon with. I've never heard anyone who can do as he did/does with songs. Even one of the Judges Randy Jackson told him, he was THE Best performer they've ever had on that stage!
Actually my favorite WLL is a reggae version by Adam. It was during an early tour or one off event. I don't know if the video is still around. We had a lot of people uploading video in the early Adam days. It was amazing. Anyone else remember that one?
Adam was absolutely the best performer that show EVER had on stage. That includes contestants as well as guest star performers! Note the reaction from the crowd, typical of Adam's performances.
That’s American Idol. He won second place because American audiences are conservative in choice and his flamboyant style scared them. He has a history in theater and makes the perfect rock entertainer. Absolutely fantastic ❤❤
I really love and enjoy to see how excited you are. But you are about, 10 years late dear!!! But yes... good for all of us the we live in era Adam lives in! He did theatrical shows before American Idol. So, that's why his stage performance is great.
There's a 14 yr old guitar phenom named Taj Farrant that as a musician you probably would love to see. Don't let his age fool you. People watch him and swear they believe in reincarnation. He has an old soul and his guitar is a part of him. People have said it's like they took SRV, Gary Moore, Jimi Hendrix and a bit of Prince and out came Taj. He has played on stage and is mentored by Carlos Santana. He's also played with Rob Thomas, Kiss, Orianthi, Christone Kingfish Ingram,Eric Gales and Prince's longtime musical director of over 20 years Morris Hayes. He's even opening a few shows with Buddy Guy, playing some of the biggest blues festivals and is a performer on Joe Bonamassa's blues cruise next year. Taj has had 4 of his original songs Crossroads, Cruz, Bad Trip and House Always Wins hit #1 on the iTunes worldwide blues charts. His last couple of songs were produced by Ken Lewis, who recently won a Grammy for his work on Taylor Swift's album. Taj does sing too but I always suggest for anyone as a first time viewer please watch him playing Gary Moore's Parisienne Walkways. It really gives you a taste of how good Taj is and he keeps getting better and better! ❤❤❤ ua-cam.com/video/PMdqV4xfUe4/v-deo.htmlsi=Klm-q1-Avi2V8Oyv
Adam had a pretty good career in theater before this. Musical theater. Simon actually commented on it because he said that Adam was bringing too much theater to his singing style. Or something that that effect. Well, he was wrong about that!
He should have won idol but I’m glad he came in second otherwise he would not be doing what he is doing today the guy who won I have never from him since ❤❤❤❤
I love that you have discovered the amazing talent that is Adam Lambert. Love your reviews! Please listen to him sing Red House. You'll hear him sing yet another genre to perfection.
If you liked this you might enjoy also from Idol Bo Bice doing “Vehicle” (originally by The Ides of March). Bo was another like Adam who bought his flavour to the songs he did on the show. Best wishes from Lesa in Australia 🇦🇺
This was the first time Led Zeppelin ever allowed a contestant to sing one of their songs on a talent show as they knew Adam would do it justice.
First time led zeplin ever gave permission for one of their songs on idol, they knew Adam wouldn’t ruin it

Adam commands and delivers. He is a once in a lifetime talent 🩵🩵🩵
His performance of Mad World, on American Idol, is also an AMAZING one!!!
Agree…my fav from American Idol
After all these years I still remember every one of his performances. Never watched AI after this.
You are correct, American Idol is where he was discovered. He was in a class by himself! Paula couldn’t get enough of him, she would stand and cheer the entire time he would perform! His range is just insane!
This song put him on Queen's radar.

Yes He Is Very Wise !!!
As We All Know , Very Humble Too !!! 💗💗💗💋💋💋

Adam has been simply amazing from first time in AI. Love this man!
Listen to his performance on Glee, shows you he can act, sing and do anything .
Also his covers album High Drama is great,Holding out for a Hero is a cover that he makes his own.
you have to find some of his versions of this live in concert. He takes it even further than this. He is phenomenal
Oh yes!! The performance in Amsterdam is the hottest!!

It was the trigger that made me a super fan. I still adore that performance. It is vocally perfect!
That’s one of my favorites! That he came up with that version… amazing.
He is a master at "reworking" a song...fast to slow or style change...his is master!
Same here, total fan of that performance (and as a European, i didnt know the original, so could not understand why everybody was shocked!)

Lot of firsts happened on season 8 of Idol mostly because of Adam Lambert

The song 'Time for Miracles' from the movie 2012 is worth a listen/look too John ... his range is nuts...
Yes Adam Is GREAT !!!
Love this! I watched that whole season of American Idol. He was amazing... and didn't win.... I think it was probably a good thing that he didn't.
Actually Brian said one in a billion.
You HAVE to see his performance on Idol of Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke. It is off the charts man ❤
Love how he did that one!
@@ezrasace my comment says “on Idol”
@@loisvansciver9194 then check out Smokey Robinson's Tracks of My Tears.
How cool is Adam? He is the Bomb😍
He also consistently brought the musicians front and center in his Idol performances. He understood how essential they all are for the whole performance
He gave them credit frequently.
I loved him on American Idol...saw him live after his first album came out.
this is the performance that Spike Edney of Queen saw and immediately called Roger...just after the glory note
This was the song that got Queens attention ❤...you can see why great reaction
I was actually going to add this to my April request list for you after seeing you react to some other Adam performances as this was the moment I fell in love with his voice all those years ago ... 🙂
I have loved Adam Lambert ever since American Idol. There is sooo much pre-Idol music to find and be amazed by.
And even more after Idol.

I had no clue!! Love to learn more
I’ve seen him on his own twice and with queen twice. He is mesmerizing on stage. All attention is on him. Who wants to live forever gave me chills both times…it was made for his voice they just didn’t know it yet.
Great reaction! 🔥 Simon Cowell picked Bono's "One." tp perform in the finale. Bono cleared it for Adam. The song is epic!!!
I love Bono a lot ...
And Adam Lambert did make one his own and it was actually much more emotional, in my opinion ..
When he performed Who Wants To Live Forever with Queen on Isle of Wight, after the slaughter at Pulse Night Club, he tore the stage apart--with his soul and vocally.
Have you watched video of Adam's first gig with queen at the EMA's I believe, he does The Show Must Go On, it is Outstanding ❤
A big thank you to Madison G.
have you seen Adam sing Nessim Dorma?????? he is amazing
Adam is fantastic!
Listen to The Show Must Go On at the O2 by Queen and Adam. It will blow your mind
During this season of Idol people referred to it as The Adam Lambert Show. He brought it every single time.
Also.. this was the first time Led Zep had allowed anyone to cover any of their songs on American Idol.. and I don’t believe anyone has since (They’re VERY picky!!) Great reaction.. thank-you!
That’s “WOMAN” at the end *chefs kiss*
U need to see born to be wild on American idol to
Yes another favorite. And MJ’s Black and White ❤
Watch all of the episodes of Adam on American Idol. They are all wonderful. Love your reactions!😊
Did you know Adam actually sang in a metal band called Citizen Vein before he appeared on Idol. He’s great in all genres. Sooo versatile!!
I loved all of Adam's performances in this competition."Born to be wild" next would be great
Great choice!!!🤩
Great reaction thanks!
Love Adam! 🔥❤️🔥❤
I would recommend Queen+ Adam Lambert performing The Show Must Go On at the O2.
I love how you appreciate how great Adam is! He has one of the best voices on the planet!
ADORABLE ADAM ❤
Listen his an amazing album "Velvet"!!!!
It's a great attitude to have: to listen to different genres. I do that too as much as I can - a good song or a good singer are good, period, regardless of genre. And Adam Lambert is truly exceptional, as someone who can sing pretty much anything and make it incredible & exciting every single time
❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love how much you appreciate Adam. He has one of the best voices in the world! Been a fan since Idol. I’ve seen him in concert with Queen and twice in solo concerts. Always amazing!!!
this dude is playin final fantasy 7 music and im LOVING it xD
Awww, you’re so sweet, I’m loving your reactions to my absolute favourite artist, I love Adam.
Ck out Adam doing one of his own from 13 years ago with over 5 mil. Views! Sleepwalker from his Glam Nation Live tour.

Glad you checked out Adam Lambert. He's Beyond Words ❤❤❤. Brian May calls him GFG- Gift from God.😊😊😊
Adam is amazing at getting the flavour of the original but then adds his own spices every time.
I still can't believe that move with the microphone got left in.....and they panned out to show it at just the 'right' moment 😂
I bet you would enjoy this 2020-06-16 Adam Lambert 3 On The Moon (acoustic)...
Adam is just awesome and incredibly underrated
Adam could be the best Rock Singer if he wants to. He can sing EVERYTHING in his own style. Like your channel and i"ll be here when you react to Adam.
You want to hear Adam Lambert really rock out listen to sure fir winners or whole lot of love at his 2011 Moscow concert, CRAZY
I still think you would like crawl through fire. The performance adam did on the zodiac club
Adam is incredible !!
I really love and enjoy to see how excited you are. But you are about, 10 years late dear!!!
But yes... good for all of us the we live in era Adam lives in!
He did theatrical shows before American Idol. So, that's why his stage performance is great.
15 years!! Time flies!
Yeah this was early days his brilliant now s his progressed. Thanks John. you amazing.
Absolute genius
БИС....... БИС!!! Спасибо за реакцию!!! Круто !!!👍🎤👏👏👏🤝🤝🤝♥️♥️♥️🌷🌷🌷✌️🇹🇩
Get to queen songs he also puts his flair in, approved by Queen, his amazing
Adam had a pretty good career in theater before this. Musical theater. Simon actually commented on it because he said that Adam was bringing too much theater to his singing style. Or something that that effect. Well, he was wrong about that!
Featuring Reavsie's Eyebrows of Delight
Love Adam my second favorite all time singer right after Steve Perry ❤❤❤
Check out Adam Lambert's Holding out for a Hero. (Bonnie Tyler cover)
Just fantastic! I loved it.
More Adam!!
Also his performance ring of fire. On idol
