This video focuses on how to do general Punnett square problems that involve traits on the sex chromosomes (X and Y chromosomes). We do want to point out though that when it comes to biological sex- it can be influenced by more than just sex chromosomes X and Y. For example, the SRY gene, plays a major role in human biological sex determination. While this video only focuses on solving sex-linked trait problems in a Punnett square, here are some further reading suggestions to learn about the SRY gene and its role in biological sex.

Also, we want to add, when we first made this video back in 2015, there was a point in the video where we said "gender," but we should have said "sex." A person kindly educated us back then about how these two words are defined differently, and we corrected this mistake.

I just wanted to stop and say thank you for your videos: I have ADHD and am currently studying to be a psychologist. It is SO HARD to get through textbooks and boring, dense material. I spent 2 hrs trying to concentrate enough to comprehend one page... you did that for me 6 minutes!

@@Mrs.Genz123 Different STEM degrees require other stem classes as part of the requirements to graduate. Like biology and physics and math. Where no matter if you are studying engineering vs psychology you'll still need to take other classes as base understanding for the more specific classes you'll take later on.

The whole shaped like an X and Y thing for sex chromosomes was really throwing me off in my genetics class. I couldn't wrap my head around "well if the gametes are haploid and only have that one chromatid, where does the other half come from?!" Really helped, you guys have basically earned my bachelor's in biology for me! Thanks for doing what you do!

Thank you! i have a test tomorrow for biology on our whole unit with genetics, let me tell you that i am a bit nervous but i know i got this because i work so hard and i truly believe all my hard work pays off. i am so thankful and great ful that i passed my biology test tomorrow on friday march 17th, st. patrick’s day, with a 100%! i deserve to receive and earn 100%on my bio test, i am prepared and not worried because i know i got this. i don’t overthink and i trust myself, all my hard work pays off. i am so thankful and grateful i earned 100%. on my bio test for genetics, mutations, cell cycle, mendelian genetics, dna,rna, etc, including everything i learned this unit. i am protected and so are my high scores in bio and all my classes in general. i continue to work hard no matter what and no matter how is watching. i am lucky and blessed.❤❤❤❤❤ THANK YOU!!!

These videos have changed my life. I use to be homeless and lived out in the street corners. But one day i got curious about human beings as a whole. What makes us, how we function, etc. So i went to my local library and used the internet to explore these concepts and it had led me to you. Now i understand. Thank you. I am still homeless but now i saved up the change i had and bought a microscope so that i can study cells while street muggers swarm my area.

BTW If they are monetized then they would be getting a tad bit more money because of the subject of the money. So I'm a 3rd year college student working on a bio minor and I found myself watching these videos for a brief overview, I felt pretty silly but it did well at summarizing and getting the point across. Although I may now be lacking in a bit of masculinity, I enjoyed the videos. Good job!

I use capital N for normal / healthy & n for defect / bad news allele. That way its the same for red-green color blindness, hemophilia and muscular dystrophy. That way i don’t break the “rule” or etiquette of using Capital for dominance...love your work

You can tell this is an old video because it has a different art style. Not a bad thing. A lot of UA-cam animators go through this (where there art style changes over time)
