  • We discuss the routine we have to go through in order to achieve higher and more consistent scores. We take a look at the Beretta ASE Gold and how it is performing. Different types of cartridges are discussed and you even get a close up look at my score book. It is not a sport...it is a discipline...and if we want good scores we need to be disciplined. Hope you enjoy it and that it helps you with your clay target shooting ...stay well and Happy Shooting...Roger Pace

Roger, you have no idea how glad I am to see a new video from you!! I started shooting barely a year ago and luckily came across your channel. I watched every single one of your videos, many of them several times over. You also inspired me to get myself a 690 as my first o/u. I hear you saying 'see bird shoot bird' in my head every time before I mount. I shot my first 25 four months in and it was all thanks to you. And as of late I've been averaging 97/100. Members at my club always remark on how fast I improve and ask if I've gotten coaching. I've always said no, but now I realize I have. You, Roger, are my coach. Thank you so much for the time you put into your videos and fantastic insights and advice you bestow.

Tim...about this time last year...ny beretta 690 broke an inertia block lever...because it was close to christmas i was going to be without a gun for quite a while ...a guy at the club sold me the ase gold for about 2/3 rds of its actual value... i have had it now for one year i do not know when it was last serviced ...but it has not missed a beat...i think some of these older guns are much better than some of the newer guns...!!!

@@rogerpace9322 I agree with you. I have noticed that beretta products in general have Had some corners cut in some areas of production and in my opinion in some things the quality has deteriorated From what some of the older stuff was. Case in point... 682 gold e, ase gold, dt10. All superior quality to current offerings.

Roger, great to see you back. A while ago, you had a video on eye dominance. You stated eye dominance didn't matter if our eyes were focused entirely on the bird. I am still shooting one eyed, however, I simplified my approach to EXACTLY what you described. One extra thing I USED to do was check the beads for figure when mounting the gun. I quit doing that and immediately experienced shooting without visual awareness of the barrel. My scores are always good when I have no barrel awareness and my visual concentration is entirely on the clay. If I see the rib or bead in my periphery, it's a miss. It's very difficult to understand until experienced. I look forward to more of your stuff.

Nice gun Roger. I love the lockup sound on my DT10, but I think I prefer the sound of my MX8.
You're spot on about getting your mount consistent. I don't know how many times I've mounted my gun, thought it didn't feel quite right and still called for the target because I thought "it'll be fine". I missed every one of those targets for the record too!
Good point about footwork too. Sounds like you've got it all worked out. A consistent pre shot routine is the most important thing I've found.
I'm a bit jealous you guys in SA are still able to shoot while us Victorians are locked down...
    Happy Shooting!

Hello Roger. You mention “eyes open”, and appear to emphasize wide open as seen in the video. I think many have a tendency to relax their eyes and then focus when the clay is called for, but never really open the eyes wide even when the shot is made (myself included). Could you please explain the idea of eyes wide open. I hope I am not reading something into your comment that was meant as something minimal. Thanks.
