Fake Sony MDR-V6 vs Original Sony MDR-7506

- My first hand experience with a pair of fake China-made headphones compared to an official/original version.
I've lost the invoice of the first one but I'm guessing they've been bought from some dodgy third party electronic reseller found in some remote corner of the internet, just for the sake of getting something a bit cheaper than the others.
The last pair (the original ones) have been bought on Amazon at the average price you'll find them around.

Appreciate it 👍
many people may not know but many of these clones have actually the genuine Sony parts except the main driver which is different, that's why you cant see the difference. these Chinese companies have contacts with sony factories and they buy parts from them that were actually not passed from genuine sony quality control system. so they discard and clone companies buy them illegally.
thank you so much for this. I just received my pair of MDR-7506 I bought on ebay and they are extremely fake. SENDING BACK! Thanks again
I know that this is 8 years ago, but anyway, it might be useful.
That V6 is a really good fake!
The V6 should sound identical to the 7506 or very very very close. Pads don't look right. Extra padding on the headband is not right. Pouch is not right. Harder cable is not right. The writing on top STUDIO MONITOR is in a different font. Stitching on the headband's edge is different. The font on the red sticker DIGITAL is different and the pixel effect is of lower quality. They went to the extent to use a jack with green plastic insulation like Sony does, impressive. So close yet so different.
thanks for the comment @innerscape.
You do realize those are two different headphones, right? The MDR-V6 headphones are the "home use" version of the MDR-7506. Not fake, just different... and yes, cheaper. store.sony.com/studio-monitor-type-headphones-zid27-MDRV6/cat-27-catid-all-dj-studio-style?_t=pfm%3Dcategory
Right, but not fake, correct?
+Justin Avants thanks, I'm well aware of that, but as +Jayme Pie already said, the components are basically the same. The sound quality of the fake one is close to the quality you can get for a 5 quid pair of headphone off the street market, not even close to what you would expect from a pair of Sony, whichever MDR you're talking about.
+ilPeach I linked Sony's online catalogue. Both models are listed. I was simply pointing out that they are both legitimate. Neither is fake.
+Justin Avants I probably missed the point. Just to reiterate: both are legit products from Sony, name and aspect match (I've owned several different MDR* headphones myself in the past). Unfortunately the V6 I received were counterfeit, ripoff replicas of the original ones. Not only this was quite evident by the poor build and sound quality they had, but it made even more sense after seeing so many people reporting these counterfeit ones. TBH they're a very good copy, hat tip to however did it.
Justin Avants the v6 he had are actually counterfeits. The big giveaway is the carry case.
Thanks for sharing this. Definitely something to look out for.
Probably just repeating what has already been said MDR-V6 are original first in the MDR series headphones MDR-7506 came out later.
The MDR-7506 Replaced the MDR-V6 when they were discontinued. Same design but a slight upgrade. The “ Made in Japan Sony “ V6 are King in my book.
Those V6's are definitely fake. The giveaway is the font on the 'Studio Monitor' printing on top. It's wrong.
I bought some Sony mdr 7506 about 4 days ago now I'm just waiting but idk if there fake
Who knew Col. Hans Landa was getting into audio
Sounds more Italian than Austrian, TBH.
Maybe the tone of voice, but not the accent.
thanks for the tips. please where you got the original one and the fake one ? because i was about ti buy in eBay the cheap one but i was very confused só i went to amazon and there they say: new, used or affordable . them i realize that eBay could be used or fake... i will buy in amazon but i really appreciate if you say where you get the original one
from my experience and by reading around, it's easier to buy a genuine product on Amazon, but don't quote me on this, double check the reviews and the seller feedback.
ilPeach but you did say fake .
MDR V6 and MDR 7506 are slightly different models, that said, they sound pretty similar, so if you got a highly different sound, the V6 you got are fakes
In your left hand is not fake MDR 7506.
It is MDR V6.
They're fake V6 though. The easiest way to see is to look closely at the DIGITAL print on the red sticker. The fake V6 have badly aligned print. It's very ugly lettering actually.
thanks for sharing this !
I need to buy these so where should I go ? I am worried
the v6 and 7506 HAVE THE SAME DRIVER,..if you don't believe me, just call sony and ask them.
Ага, любой ебанат будет названивать в сони, и его там ждут)
Both headphones are originals from sony
i have question ..how is the bass on sony mdr 7506
Compared to some other consumer headphones I've used is less "powerful". Personally I think the sound as a whole comes out more close to the original which is the reason I bought these.
Hope it answers your question.
thanku...
Ankurmittalrcv93 Mittal the mdr 7506 are monitors, so they dont have any bass boost or anything like that, theyre made for use in recording studios
they look fake from the sides

These Chinese clone just about every product imaginable. Some clones are excellent, while others
are not. I purchased a pair of cloned Sony MDR 7506 headphones and they look almost identical to
the real ones. They were only $55 delivered on Ebay. The drivers are really cheap. They sound pretty
good, however, I've heard of other MDR 7506 clones that really sound poor. There are so many companies
making these clones with various quality parts that it's risky to purchase anything but a Sony authorized
version of the MDR 7506.
I would happy to buy a fake Sony headphone to use it as a shell.
I have 2 original speakers and cable from my broken 7506
Unfortunately it is very hard to find.
I check Aliexpress and it is look like they don't have any fake headphones anymore.
Just few yeras ago it was possible to get as a source of parts fake Pioneer HDJ1000, HDJ2000
It is nothing now...
Original parts are INSAINLY expensive and overpriced.
you can buy a new geniune 7506 headband / earcup assembly for like $20 you would need the speaker grills however..

if im buying from japan it can be fake? 0_o i know its mybe stupid question but comparing it to korea or china im kinda on the safest place i want to get these but afraid of non genuine shit product
Hi @idan124, I don't think it's a question of _where_ you buy it, rather whom you're buying it from. I.e. make sure the seller is a trusted one (not just a popup store nobody's bought anything from, and they have some reviews), and they have a replacement policy where you don't have to spend money to send back what you bought.
you can see right away the fake ones say digital on the ears where as the real ones say professional!
and the colours arent the same as the authentic
all you have to do is look at lots of real ones on the internet and you should be able to spot fakes. you dont just buy the first ones you click on lol. but thanks for the info!
MDRV6 monitor headphones say "for DIGITAL" on each can. That's what they were designed for in 1985. You can see it clearly on Amazon.com and any number of review sites. It's also on my V6s too, which I've had for years.
MDR7506 Professional headphones say "Professional" on each can.
Even the MDR-cd900st studio monitor headphones that cost twice the price the of 7506 Professionals on amazon.com have "for DIGITAL" on each can. The difference is in the frequency response. The V6 and cd900st are 5 to 30,000 hz while the 7506 is 10 to 20,000 hz.
