It's not about Hooxi, nobody knows how good Niko will be on igl. He said after Dallas that he will be read for sure and it must be easier to cohnter him. Dallas for G2 was like Blast Major for Gamerlegion, or CPH Major for NAVI. They didn't know what to exactly expect from them
Thats true but you have to keep in mind that Niko used most of Hooxi’s strat book, which is the main reason Stewie didnt come in as IGL, they wanted to maintain the same structure as before, so maybe the midrounds were called a bit differently but the set strats and defaults were probably the same

@mynameisntcoco4609 most of their plays I saw were plays that Hooxie would start with but depends on how stuff goes in the round nico will make his call.. so I'm guess hooxi mid round calls aren't good that's why they lose often

I like how ohnepixel put it- as to how he achieved global. He admits to not being a great mechanical player but his main role is to uplift the team. Paraphrasing: if everyone plays 20% better because that guy is there to take off the pressure and uplift the team, you win games. Stewie was that guy for G2 so it's not surprising to see m0nesy/niko on their A game from that morale boost coming away with a tournament. I hope they get an energetic IGL to come in, we need the top 5 this stacked year round
I think it's a lot simpler than this honestly. I think HooXi just didn't set up Niko that way he needed to be set up. With Niko IGLing he called much more around himself and Stewie basically just baited for Niko. I think HooXi kinda overcomplicated a lot of things while when you have players like Niko and m0NESY the gameplan should sometimes just be "Niko and m0NESY go kill"

kinda weird they're going this path since it was stated hooxi had major influence on their prep doing it all, ir order to help niko's calling... despite g2's choice they are so talented overrall so wich is hard to not see them as contenders, just need someone solid on calling together with TRUST and good analysts.
also they need to do some shuffle on roles too so everyone is comfortable
I could see hooxi being an analyst for g2 or even a coach later down the road, but I doubt hooxi would want that for himself anytime soon
I personally doubt that anyone on the g2 roster is making player decisions. Most likely a manager making these decisions. Especially the jks removal.

I appreciate the effort for this video, it's insane how many clips you found to compare the two and I agree with all your points, very well demonstrated ! As (hopefully) constructive critizism I'll only say that your point is a bit diminished by comparing hooxi vs 3DMAX vs Stewie vs Vitality. It's definitely fine for showing strats and mid-round calls but when you show clutch potential the two opposing teams are in a vastly different ballpark
I fully expect G2 to come out of the player break looking amazing and then continue to be inconsistent if not worse after about two months.
Same, it took them 3 years to win an event before hooxi and I would find it hilarious if it took them that long again.
pretty standard for any IGL change.. Astralis recently had it twice with blameF (cologne semis first event) and Device (beat faze in non-elim game at EPL, everyone creams, yet they've only beaten aurora, betboom and liquid in elimination games with this 5..)

I don't want it to go unnoticed that your argument is that Stewie and Hooxi essentially had the same output and impact on this team. One is the IGL who knows all the strats, timings, potential counter plays, and has been playing T1 CS for the last few years. The other is a Valorant washup who joined the team as a stand-in, who hasn't played T1 cs in over 2 years, and has no chemistry built with the team.
And they played the same? That does not bode well for HooXi the way you think it does...
My argument isn’t saying they wouldn’t be better without Hooxi, I’m more so looking if they were better in Dallas specifically.
Stewie also has been playing a lot of CS for the last few months so he’s not coming straight out of retirement to play. Also it’s important to keep in mind he had time to practice with G2 before they played, so a lot of what he was doing was directly copied from hooxis playstyle.

I think and important point being made is that mos tof the strats being called are Hooxi strats. CounterStrike has a long long history of teams kicking their IGLs and having brief moments of high performance with a 5th mechanically gifted player, but they often implode just as fast when they find themselves unable to keep up and innovate because their IGL was who was keeping them up there.

Now do i think Hooxi is as good as those all time greats? No. But do I think Niko has what it takes to IGL an all time great awper? He hasnt before, lets see what these 5 years of growth have changed.

I feel that Hooxie still needs to have influence on Niko with his calling. I'm not sure if Niko can produce strats that work as well as Hooxie's, I guess time will tell
i think stew brought a new perspective and attitude to the team. and i think monesy and niko were in a “same old same old” situation with hooxi and niko being the in game leader + stew it just fell together. it wasn’t just monesy vs 5
I really believe G2 doesn't win Dallas without Stewie, having the crowd behind them/aginst their opponents 100% helped. Also, just changing the way they played in minute ways, clutch situations, slightly different angles being held, not having HooXi calling created unexpected wins and losses but more wins than losses in this case.
But Austin's point in the video is that they're using Hooxi's calls anyway. I think that they still would've won with Hooxi, because stewie, despite having some sick moments, did not look like a T1 player.
The one thing I pick up here is - pro players are pretty smart.
Sure this is a player analysis video, BUT, my brain decided to think about it like a demo review, and this thing where g2 have an exact same round with some con pressure on anubus, but it's 50/50 if they actually have a b split or a fake, and it's actually an a exec is pretty smart, since it's strats where the enemy sees the same thing, but it could mean different things

I'm not 100% on when this game is with hooxi, but from what I'm aware 3dmax are a pretty low end t1 to high end t2 team? Also you've absolutely avoided pointing out the fact of Stewie's 2 year hiatus which makes him t2/t3 calibre. Not even to mention that, sure niko was using hooxi's playbook, but he was completely reversing it, knowing teams knew hooxi's plays down to muscle memory. You have some good points and hooxi is just objectively better than stewie, I just feel like the credit to hooxi only goes so far

Hooxi could make a great assistant coach and eventually coach. But he's just not cut out to be in the game at the top teir.

The fact that they were able to play in a similar style with him off the server shows that he is not really needed as a player given his total fragging output. Like many have mentioned, the pathway to being a coach seems like the best route for him given he assisted with preparation in the Dallas games. It also didn't help his case that nexa was also fragging poorly as well making it so that unless m0nesy went crazy, they would almost be guaranteed to lose with 2 players at the bottom of the scoreboard. The better question to ask is why the failed to succeed towards the end of the tenure they had with jks. They won a couple of events early in 2023 and then never reached those same heights.
It's pretty fun that almost everyone was hating on hooxi from the get go. He has been slowly aaproving with his aim and are trying more to find gaps so the team get an advantage.
I think it would have been better to compare clips vs tier 1 teams for both sides, but other than that i think you give a good breakdown. In my opinion i think G2 has mentality issues and a poor team dynamic leading to players underperforming. For me mixing up the team and making changes was a great idea even if the roles don't quite make sense yet.

I actually don't think they would have won with HooXi, because with a stand-in they got into a position of no pressure and I do believe pressure affects the team quite a lot, as we've seen in their bad losses at Majors (missing playoffs at Antwerp, missing the whole Rio Major, losing to Fnatic in Paris).
But Stewie really isn't the answer for G2 and I really hope they aren't even considering it. But then again, I don't think HooXi was the answer either. It was a good time to make a change since they've had basically the same results ever since they got HooXi; Getting to playoffs in most events and winning one event per season, but never really being close to more tournament wins. If they want to get to the next level something had to change and Dallas showed HooXi really isn't irreplaceable.
i mean it makes sense that niko is calling a similar strat book if not the same since there was little time to prep between the tournaments, why create a new one instead of practicing with the current one

I think Hooxi (or someone's) benching was in the woodwork for longer than we might think. Them winning Dallas without Hooxi was maybe hasting the process to just bench Hooxi.
I mean Hooxi is good and they suppose to be winning a lot more often, but they don't.
I'm gonna lean in on what I heard Stew said about the teams atmosphere being very stiff and uncomfortable. I think that's more or less what causes G2s losses when they lose because it affects the whole team.
Comparing how stewie played vs hooxi isnt really showing alot since he is IGL and since stewie isnt who they are replacing him with

They might be about equal in skill, but g2 wont be. Now that nexa is out, and hooxi is out as well, 2 new players wont only make them rusty, but there wont be chemistry like there used to be. And niko igl'ing will probably not work out because he's a rifler, and a rifler cant open up a site because he basically needs to die. And to have one of your pawns die as an igl, instead of the one who can actually call (igl), will most likely not work out. So either they replace hooxi with someone on the same level as niko, or.................................

From a objective stand point just watching the demos i think you might be right.. But i think you're wrong in the way stewie brought calm to otherwise chaotic G2 squad. I personally think that Stewie managed to calm down G2 and allow other people to perform. Just look at hunters numbers, and it's been a long time since everyone in the G2 squad stepped up simultaneously.. So my personal belief is that you're wrong.

What... You can have a whole other player that can potentially be significantly more mechanically skilled. How is that the same? If they pick up any decent anchor player they will be cooking. Also makes the Malbs pick up make more sense, he can stick to his aggressive play style.

you're not the only person i've seen suggest this, but i'd say if cadian's system is too rigid for twistzz and naf, players like niko and monesy are gonna lose their fucking mind.
Cadian seems like a big nono, his system works well with rookies and he turns them into stars that stab him in the back on the first occasion but it doesn't seem to mesh with star players

lmao as i always say, hooxi or nexa is not the biggest problem, the biggest problem is inconsistent Niko and daydreaming hunter (and they take best positions like Niko take outside as CT). I don't like hooxi because he is dumb but i dont think he's the problem. It's just a game of finding scapegoats to explain to everyone: "Why G2 cannot win with a top1 awper Monesy and 'BEST PLAYER OF HISTORY (Niko)"

at 20:00 ish. idk why we're talking about this ct call as an amazing strategy which hooxi has come up with. Playing 3 on the site where you are playing aggressive is something people do in matchmaking lobbies. every team ever does this. This isn't a hooxi strat. it's basic counterstrike.
basic as it may be, the same order of events happen in both of the games we look at. each team will do these things but have there own way of doing them. it's a super small example, but it is an example i thought was important
