  • Continuing on the process of revisiting old repairs to my Torana Hatchback - This video I'm replacing the lower half of the skin that was damaged upon skin removal. Rather than binning the whole skin I bought a lower repair panel and tig welded it to the best of my ability.
There was a reason the skin was removed in the first place, and that is the fact that the door never fit properly. The skin was about 5 - 10 mm prouder, which caused aligning issues, weather belt to glass gaps, slamming of the door to get it to sit flush and still prouder of the quarter panel. On top of all that, the door handle recess wasn't stamped 100% and the handle never sat right.
They say you learn from your mistakes, and these are the things I would do differently next time around:
Test fit the handle during metal work stage and tweak accordingly.
Test fit the door WITH rubbers on.
Align the skin with the door frame on the car and tweak if necessary.
    Measure measure measure.
