Something not mentioned in the video specific to variant covers are ratio covers, albeit 1:25, 1:50, or 1:100 covers. These are something to be weary of as new collectors since they are in fact more expensive than regular variants. Always double check if the varient you want is a ratio so you don't end up paying more than you're willing for a comic. (Awesome video btw I'll definitely be sending this to some of my friends)
Yesss, perfect video for newer collectors! Thanks for taking the time to sum up some more things about what to know before getting heavy into collecting
This channel is so dope, I just got into reading comics and I'm a life long Batman fan. Started with the hush omnibus now I'm onto the Scott Snyder omnibus. These videos are super helpful bc there was a lot to learn about how things are categorized. Your advice of jumping right in to something that looks interesting is definitely the way to go, once I just picked a book and got into reading it everything about comics got easier to understand. Thanks bro!
Compendiums aren’t necessarily TPBs, there are compendiums that are hardcovers. What sets compendiums and omnibuses apart is that omnis are bigger in size. Compendiums are usually standard sized (meaning the size of a regular comic/floppy/TPB), and omnis are bigger, the same size as a deluxe edition. For newer collectors: omnis may be more expensive, but they’re actually the cheaper option when it comes to collecting the entire series. If you’re gonna collect an entire ongoing series, that has dozens of issues, in singles you’ll probably end up paying more than if you just bought the omnibus. Some food for thought. (But also, it’s best to not buy an omnibus completely blindly. So it’s best to read the first few issues before making the decision to spend so much money on an omnibus). A good example for a single creator doing everything on his comics is Stjepan Sejic, he’s very talented. But warning - his stuff is usually for a mature audience.
Solid video bro. Omni’s for me are the GOATS. I love seeing the artwork in OVERSIZED format. DC’s Absolute line is another format I love too. Dope tips man.
I've been collecting for just under a year now, so I already knew almost all of this stuff but it is a very informative video and it's always great to get recapped or just reminded about things. Massive vouch for league of comic geeks from me too. Fantastic resource for keeping track of your own collection as well as discovering new series and issues that you might want to check out
Best video I’ve seen for beginners man. Nate touched on everything you need to dive in. DC also offers Absolute Editions of books which are like the Deluxe edition but much larger format and my personal favorite to collect. Just because I love art but it’s as far as I know a DC only thing. I started collecting before the new 52 and I even learned something in this video. Thanks again big Nate you’re the man!
I recommend using mylites 2 from E Gerber. Regular poly bags are going to yellow after about 15 years and you'll probably want to replace them. Mylites look so much better, also.
I been collecting for 15 years now and ended up becoming a completion-ist if that’s a term, where I had to buy the whole series, ended up stopping that and got hooked into omnibus 😅 it’s worth it !
Another great video I’ve been collecting since I was a kid, but this is very instructive for friends of mine who were getting into the hobby. Way to teach my brother 🎉
I got my first comic in the mail on Thursday and someone sent me this video to check out. It's pretty helpful I didnt know anything other than what the differences in format styles are since I don read manga.
Good video. Careful with that tape! You should take the tape off before putting a comic back in its sleeve. Also, use the backing board when putting it back. It's safer for the book.
What a great video man I hope this helps all the new comicbook collectors out there! Another great vid from the homie Nate!! I would also recommend key collector another free app similar to league of comic geeks
Things that mess me up as a fairly new comic reader is long runs that switch writers or include events. I wanna read flash books but there’s the flash and new 52 flash and rebirth. It’s hard to know which trade or omnibus I should grab next.
Amazing video, dude. I’ve tried explaining comics to my friends and I’m always afraid I’m overwhelming them however, this video is perfect for that 💯😃 would you ever consider doing videos like jumping on points for new readers? P.s keep making amazing videos
Excellent video, I'm 43 years old (I still look young and sexy or at least that's what my wife says 🤣😅) and I stopped collecting comics when I was 14 and I think at that time TPBs and omnibuses didn't exist and I went back to collecting this 2024 since I have a comic store nearby and when I started seeing all those TPB, Omnibus and single comics with so many covers and all that was a bit It's confusing for me and sometimes when I go to buy a single issue I have to be careful that I don't choose the same one thinking that they are different issues.

I’m thinking about buying the 1600 page omnibus for the Batman Arkham series is it a good investment
How do you have those comics wall mounted over your left shoulder? (Flash, etc)

When/how do you decide to get a trade paperback instead of the single issues of a comic?
