@@butterswishflamingconserva1488 keep thinking that. more 400s for us. when that 383 cracks the mains, you will wish you had gotten a 400 block, with a bottom end that rivals the hemi.

The 340 was the fastest Mopar engine i ever owned.1970 Duster 340 Plum Crazy Purple factory paint. The 400 was a smog motor but this 73 Roadrunner is really nice looking.

Truth. The 340 was an excellent engine.

    • @jasonsimone3523

True. I had a 73 roadrunner 400 4 speed with 3.55 sure grip 73,000 original miles with the window sticker. It was nice but it was a dog. I had a 68 dart gts 340 4 speed with 3.91 gear's after that and that car was a super fast car. I'm sad I sold it but I did see it at 2 car show's that I attended.

400s can be made to run harder than a 340 easy. basically a big block 340 to start with.

    • @frigglebiscuit7484

Rear deck spoiler is an aftermarket add on. Never an option on RR's. And they've suddenly popped up on everyone's rebuild and clone. We never had them back in the seventies, never wanted them. And I've owned three since 1974, the days of my youth.

Many 400 c.i. in 73-75 etc. If you do not know this do some research-biggest bore of all Big block Mopars. Great Stroker motors, and yes it was originally a "Smog" motor

@@butterswishflamingconserva1488 you didn't read my reply. I said if both engines have the same parts, a 400 will eat a 383, every. single. time. a 400 is just a bigger bore 383. much bigger bore.

Nice to finally see smog era cars getting their dues. Also nice to see that someone knew that this was a 'rare bird' and kept it up ( not sure if it's restored but it sure is clean) Lots of people thumb their noses at 400s, but these were pretty good engines, and present a great baseline to do pretty much anything 1 wants with it. The 4 speed is just icing on the cake. I believe that 73 was the last yr for the 8 3/4 rear end as well. Every 74 + B body I've ever seen either had the 8 1/4 or 9 1/4 corporate rear end, which are decidedly weaker. Anyhow, nice, rare, and a stiff price... ;)

I do not remember a 400 CID Mopar. Was that a 383 bored out for smog control? As I recall there was the Slant Six, 318, 340, 383, 326 Hemi, 440 wedge (i think). I owned a 1964 Belvedere 318, 2 dr sedan. Later I installed a take out 383 from a wrecked Road Runner in it...waste of time and money and no appreciable performance increase. Wish I had that car back with the original 318.

400 mopar is an overbored 383 basically. 383 bore is 4.250, 400 is 4.342. screamers when done up.
