    In the old days women and young girls got together to learn to knit. Thanks to UA-cam and people like you who are willing to give their time to pass down this great knowledge women and young girls can get together and learn to knit.

    Wow! What a beautiful job, both of knitting and of teaching! I know because of your great teaching skills I can knit this lovely hat on circular needles for the first time, decrease for the first time and use two yarns for the first time! I'm almost 75, you can teach an old girl new tricks 😊 Thank you, I can scratch those things off of my list as soon as I get the needles! I am confidently determined because of you! Thank you!

    I just completed my very first fair isle hat! I am very proud of myself..never thought I would be knitting fair isle anything. Your video was the best I have ever seen. I started this project yesterday about 1:00pm (11/27/16) and finished it this morning about 10am (11/28/16). Thanks again for the great video :)

    Thanks for doing this video!! You did a great job on it: it's easy to see what you are doing and I LOVE that you did it as though you were sitting next to me and teaching me. This is my first time using a chart and doing fair isle, you made it look far easier than I thought it would be. It's great to be able to see what something is supposed to look like so I know if I'm doing it right or not.

    I just wanted to thank you so much for making this video, and all of your videos! I have learned so much from you. Since I started knitting, I have avoided anything with charts because it just looked intimidating. With your help, I made this hat in 2 nights! You made it so easy to understand. I learned how to do a chart and I learned how to do the magic loop method, all thanks to you!! You make the best knitting tutorials I have ever seen, thank you!

    Now this was a really good video. I enjoyed it very much. I love the magic loop method at the end as it looked so much easier to deal with than the double pointed needle method. I must admit that I am not confident at using pattern charts as I am more used to written instructions so this would be a bit of a challenge for me. But I do like the fair isle design, I think it is beautiful. Many thanks for posting this video on UA-cam.

    I am so glad I found this video! You knit just like me and hold the yarn in your right hand only. So many other color work videos show both hands holding the yarn and I can not manage that technique. One question: Do you have any advice on which color should run below in the floats? It seems that you sometimes have the white below and other times you have the grey below. Thank you so much!

    I absolutely love your videos. It was your cable cozy video that helped me make my first knitted project. I would really love to make this hat. And so I tried. I used the shortest wires that I have and it was difficult to try to knit the hat. The longer wires were far too long. I don't have double sided needless (but I will be getting them soon) so I wanted to know if it were possible to cast on more stitches? If so, how much? And will it affect the pattern? How much would I need to cast on for the pattern to not be affected?

    Currently I loom knit, but would like to learn needle knitting. This is a very good tutorial, however, you lost me at the decrease pattern part. I understand about knit 2 together, but I don't understand the chart. What are the blank spaces on either side of the decrease mark (airplane thingy). Are those current stitches too or places where the old stitches were that are now decreased? Does that make sense? I just don't understand reading the decrease part of the pattern. This tutorial is probably the best one I have ever seen and I have watched many.

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  10 років тому

      First of all, that is the best compliment anyone has given me. Thank you so much! So if you click on the link to go to the written pattern, it actually has the explanation of that weird airplane sign lol. It means to sk2p: Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 2 tog, pass slipped stitch over - decreased 2 stitches. I hope you end up giving it a try! Let me know! Happy Holidays :)

      @iKNITS  10 років тому

    iKNITS, I have a question about yarn. I want to make this hat for a friend about to go through chemo. I learned the best yarn to use is a cotton blend. It is a smaller weight of yarn. I decided to use size 6 circular needles to start with however that makes a small brim. Can i increase the number I cast on or will it mess me up later in the pattern? Thanks for any advice

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  5 років тому

      Hey, the only problem with using smaller weight and needles is that your gauge is going to be off for the whole pattern, not just the brim. So it will be too small. Have you tried holding your yarn double and making a gauge swatch to see if that would work? There’s also some cotton yarns that are size 4 worsted weight yarn..

    I'm new to knitting. I bought circular needles but they are steel and the corded part is attached. What brand/where did you get yours so that the needles just twist off to change sizes? Do I need ones like those or can I change the needles I have with larger ones I have somehow at the increase?

      +Jade Murphy I have the attached one too,you can still do it . Get the bigger size and change it after you make the brim,start row with size 8.

    Hey! Thanks for sharing this pattern, it' s lovely. Can you please help me out with this one? How can i knit this hat with a yarn for needles size 9-10 using needles size 7 and 8? If I cast on 80, it's too big...
    Thanks in advance

      What size yarn is it?

      It' s bulky and it' s recommended that it' s knitted with needles size 9 and 10, so when I use my size 7 and 8 needles, it does not come out very tight... Maybe I should I should go for a smaller yarn...

      I would do worsted weight (4) yarn :)

    Can you tell me how you go about putting the stitches on a larger needle in order to do the magic loop version once the hat gets too small for the smaller circular needles?

      Kathy Kirstein yes! What I do is get my larger cable and put the right needle on that cable. And if you want, you can put a larger size needle on the other side of the larger cable but you don't have to. Then I usually just knit the next round onto the new cable. So you'll have your smaller cable as your left needle and your larger cable as your right needle until you finish that round and you will have all the stitches transferred into your new larger cable and then unscrew the left needle and put it on the other side of your cable! I hope that makes sense.

    Do you know how much yarn this would take if one color of yarn was used instead of two?

    Hi
    I found a replacement yarn but, the yardage is 164 yards for one skein can I buy just one skein per color or do I need two skeins per color?
    thanks

      Each skein that I used has 250 yds, and I probably only used half of each. So I think one skein of each color would be fine.

    If you go to Lion Brand and read through the pattern it says that its blocked with a plate to give it that shape.

    Could you link to the DPN video because it didn't seem to let me click it in the video

    So, the pattern on the Lion Brand website is for a tam, but it looks like the pattern you're working with doesn't have the slouchy back. Do you have a pattern for that? Does it change anything? Also, great tutorial :)

      The pattern says that they wet blocked the hat over a dinner plate once they had finished it, That should give you the slouchy back from the same pattern.
