Here are 10 ideas that you could use for your city (like so he can see)
1.NFL stadium for the super bowl
2.Several Petrol Stations along your roads
3.A city bank
4.A mountain with maybe a ski resort
5.A public indoor pool with pool,diving board,slide Etc.
6.A bus terminal
7.A race track
8.Add shops and restaurants to your streets in your city centre
9.Make some skyscrapers varying in size scattered around the city to make the place look a bit more built up
10.And a depot for all the different stores

That looks like Marriott Courtyard hotel design. ANOTHER IDEA, Recreation Center w/ Basketball Courts, Large Baseball Stadium with a few small ones, Tennis Courts with one large one and concession stands.
