I was 14years old in 1994... it was the end of februrary... 4 of my friends bought tickets for a Nirvana concert in Modena, Italy, 200km from my hometown. I was the youngest of my group of friends and I skipped many days of school already, so I decided not to bother convincing my mother to give me the permission to go to the concert. I clearly remember I thought "well, no big deal I'll go to a Nirvana concert next time, when they come back". Kurt Cobain died a few weeks later.
Krist Novoselic is without a doubt a very great bass guitar player! Furthermore, I like how the bass guitar amplifier is set extremely loud. It really gives Nirvana that little bit of extra power. That in combination with Dave's powerful and steady drums, Kurts thunderous guitar playing and vocals, and afcourse the cream of the crop in grunge dancing history, Dancing Tony!
Krist sucks as a bassist tho, he only made 1 good bass line and thats lounge act, anything else are just root notes with maybe 3 off beat notes. Stop lying to yourself he sucks
Kurt, with all the crazy movements, was in total control of the guitar. Chaotic and perfect solo. Truly that rare type of guiitarrist that work for the song, like George Harrison.
I was at Reading '92. 22 years old. Off my face most of it. Fucking amazing weekend. PJ Harvey, Wonderstuff, PIL, Public Enemy, Suede, Rollins Band, and the highlight.. Nirvana. Excellent times.
Those chucka palm mutes he makes on the verses and choruses is so soothing to hear in melody. It’s like a transmission of timing, each chucka is like a gear shift into the next chord. So fucking beautiful of Kurt
I was born in 1992 and i live in Reading. I go to the festival every year and I've seen so many great acts on the main stage but it saddens me a great deal that I couldn't witness this amazing band personally.
Kurt Cobain is still underestimated as a songwriter. This song for instance is brilliantly composed and could only have been written by a musical genius
Superblaster Megamaster It's not just structure. It's about melody, lyrics, groove, etc. There's genius in simplicity. Any real musician will tell you that.
lyrics were the last thing the dude cared about, he focused on the rhythm of the song and the melodies. He even said in an interview he would write songs on the way to the studio and record it after. but yeah kurt is the king of simplicity
***** Yeah he was what I like to call amazing at being bad at it. Same goes for his vocals, he does pretty much everything wrong but in such an unique and brilliant way that I would not hesitate to call him a genius. And as a songwriter nobody could ever deny that he was one of the best there ever were. You know, it is a lot more difficult to keep your songs simple than to write something really complicated.
+Doc Raven what makes a guitarist great isn't how well he can construct solos or use what's referred to by plebs as music theory. Chords can make music, but lyrics ARE the music
I often wonder what music would be like today, having kurt still be alive. And the answer that always comes to my mind is just brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
Nirvanas nevermind was all about energy. Totall energy and it crossed the whole world. Amazing how they tapped into a massive group of people that did not like the chart moron music, and it just exploded. Kurt will always be the greatest singer that could sing with pain and hurt and make it sound beautiful. His voice could just tap into something deep in people. Lovely voice he had. We will never know what we missed because he died, but i am glad his music came out when i was 16, and awoken something inside me. Thanks to him for that. It was just a shame that being in uk, i never got to see them live, it must of been amazing at nirvanas gigs in there best year of 1992.
this is a great song, with unique lyrics. they always gave such a great performance. it was always something different. every show they did had something amazing about it. they had a lot of talent and it showed in how they played and how Kurt sang.
what i like about nirvana is even when they got massively popular they stuck to what they were originally, like if you listen to loads of other bands such as guns n roses for example, they started out this amazing rock band with loads of energy and when they started playing stadiums they changed their style completely, for the better or worse is down to opinion. but even when nirvana became huge they still kept to the high energy distorted punk sounds. bloody fantastic
This ish absolute favorite song by these guys!!! I wore my cassette tape out so much by rewinding it over and over and over and over back when this came out.
That's one man with six strings and some yelling. It would be three men with ten strings, some drums, and some yelling, or four men with 16 strings, some drums, and yelling.
It took years for Kurt to perfect the lyrics and rhythm to this amazing jam, he really did write one for the ages here (as well as all the other songs he wrote lol)
30 years ago today!!! also, amazing is that Nirvana hadn't played, or rehearsed for just over 2 months before this show, and they still nailed it! Kurt himself was at a frail weight of 105 pounds, during this time frame
+WAConlineCOD this is the worst. when you have to pee at a concert. especially when you're at the front. I peed in a camelbak at a concert one time. worth it.
Dave was a great drummer. So much energy

+Josh Houston yeah he is still alive but now he's a shit singer for a shit band. I think thats what he means
+joe foley Hey, Foo Fighters is awesome And Dave sings like a god
+Ulises El Sufrido Well thats your opinion but I think they are terrible and I think thats what he meant by RIP

That bass tone is out of this world
fun fact: Hodgkinson was so high during this he has no memory of Reading 1992 at all according to Everett True
He's an average bass player
Dancing Tony for PM of England. It has to happen. That's how you build back better
can't think of a better way to start a Nirvana concert than with breed..... what great energy.
I'm 15, i wasn't even alive when kurt died. But this never gets old.
Nirvana never dies
Same Bro :)) Nirvana never fuckin dies
so weird to read this on our generation´s videos

nah bro Stay Away’s drum intro is a snare drum’s nightmare
Breed, stay away, territorial
“Oh no. Not again”

I use Radio Friendly Unit Shifter instead. Really stimulates an adrenaline rush at 5am.
I use Tourette's
hehehehe , nubs , i use endless nameless

well dancing tony is having a banging time and who can blame him bless him
Every time I listen to this band, I get more blown away at how tight they were! Such raw energy
That opening to the concert is just iconic.
god fucking damn their energy
Kurt, with all the crazy movements, was in total control of the guitar. Chaotic and perfect solo. Truly that rare type of guiitarrist that work for the song, like George Harrison.
giostroppa lol he was awful! He screwed up so much in this concert
Where did he screw up? lmao he played a lot better than you ever could in front of 50,000 people
Wtf don't compare him with George Harrison
@@aarongarcia4381 yeah, Cobain was better
@@iankirkpatrick1037 Cobain himself would say Harrison was miles better lol
I can imagine the buzz in the air on this day at Reading in '92, and then the rush of adrenaline when he sings the first line!
Nirvana in Reading '92 was maybe the best concert a band played - ever. Oh the energy!
Green Day - Jaded in Chicago
Liam gtfo with your green day shit fuck boy
Mathias Waldmann Elvis (Anytime, but without doubt at his very healthiest) and Kurt and Nirvana!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! Well that escalated quickly.
Live at the paramount was better in my opinion.
Kurt: *cuts his hair*
Also Kurt: *wears a blonde wig*
The inspo for Cory and the boys

that's a sweet lineup man
Top 3 best nirvana performances (in my opinion)
3. Live At The Paramount, 1991
2.Live And Loud, 1993
1.Live At Reading, 1992
Same!
mtv unplugged is obviously the best but i dont think it quite counts for some reason, it feels more like a studio recording
my favourite is Live & Loud
Mine is Rome 94
MTV unplugged to
Legendary entrance with the perfect intro song 🤌
fucking shame, we will never have music like this again. rip Kurt
Tina Kelly be the change
let's start a band
LiquidZodiac lol i would but ur probably super far from me. and i'm not even good at guitar but i can play power cords lmao
Alternative Lapsi meh it's not the same
Alternative Lapsi Foo Fighters is formulaic post-grunge mush. I rate them just slightly higher than Nickelback.
The energy of this track. How he got that into a song. Genius.
Those chucka palm mutes he makes on the verses and choruses is so soothing to hear in melody. It’s like a transmission of timing, each chucka is like a gear shift into the next chord. So fucking beautiful of Kurt
Dancing Tony really said “🏃🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻”
There is no band like nirvana!!! The gods of grunge!!! :)
*punk rock
Natasa Petkovic no definitely grunge
@@natasapetkovic5211 grunge
Can't really put them in a category. But with a gun to my head I'm calling them punk. They had that attitude.
They were grunge which is a combination of punk and metal

lorenzo lapotre Cuz I haven't been watching the concert since the very beginning.
Can we all just take a minute to appreciate the quality of this video, given that it was recorded in 1992?
It was probably recorded for TV. 1990s were hardly the dark ages - they had decent pro. cameras, but no mobile phones thankfully!
Tony the interpretative dancer had the best job ever
my favorite song
Dancing Tony = ALL
Does anyone notice that it says live a reading not at reading

True... why?!

Oh yeah nvm.
They absolutely killed this song. The energy radiating from this performance is incredible.
Love the bit at 0:36 when the crowd realises he’s going to sing.
Kurt gave millions of us lost teens a sense of belonging and comfort, whilst losing his at the same time.

It looks like an epiphone thunderbird IV. They are sick, I want one myself.

I love how in almost all of Nirvanas live performances there is a random person freaking out on the middle of the stage! :D
This song remember me why I've started listening to Nirvana.

Every single one of their live performances is SO much better than the studio versions
What a fantastic day out at Reading this really was. Top notch that someone else filmed my memory. This is why I love the 'net.

one of the biggest bands in the universe back then and just a plain blanket as decoration in the back haha
God, Krist sounds sick as fuck in this recording. and killer stage presence!
My only hope in life is to be as happy (or high) as that man jumping on the stage
Back when you could have a 3 piece grunge band headline an enormous festival. No backing tracks. No click. Just goddamn good music.
