I think they addressed it. Mostly Greta talks about her future and childhood being taken because the environment she will grow into adulthood with is going to be bleak. Having discussion is what eases fear. Obviously some things are being done and many feel its not enough. Many who oppose the activism get this impression of alarmists who have no interest in anyone elses input on the subject. Then you have the alarmist who feels deniers wont listen because it means they were wrong and change needs to happen.
She's also hysterical and, from what I understand, has suffered other mental challenges. She is not someone to be listened to or taken seriously...except to get her away from those who are exploiting her for their own agenda.
@@rebeccarivera238, she's advocating for the environment, trying to save the world. She's emotional about it. It's a shame more people aren't emotional about it. We're only animals and we rely on the ecosystem for our survival, just as every other animal does. The pollution of that ecosystem is worth getting emotional about.

The point is you shouldn’t make character generalizations and comments on people’s families who may have different views. Character assassinations don’t work and their intellectually cheap shots. You can believe one thing or the other and still have a civilized conversation without thinking that the other person is at their core invested in their families demise.

China is the biggest polluter in the world at 30% but the US is the second biggest at 15% and if Abby thinks only 30% of the world's pollution matters and 15% doesn't, she's very wrong.

If everybody says other people aren't doing anything, so I won't do anything - surprise, surprise, then NOTHING IS EVER GOING TO GET DONE! Also why only look at negative examples, why not look at European countries or New Zealand who are starting to take real action.

Abby barely addressed Greta, her words and her passion. Instead, she went for the "bigger picture". Just focus. She also missed the point that Greta was addressing the world, not just the U.S.. She was addressing the United Nations, including China!
Abbie Greta said it last week your saying well what about China? And her response was in Sweden they are saying what about America so you can say it about any country. Just because others aren't changing doesn't mean you shouldn't make changes.
For centuries generations have used this earth for their own gains, for greater economic growth etc not thinking or frankly caring about it effecting future generations because you they wouldn't be there to deal with the ramifications. She us crying pleading that when her grandchildren are on thus planet that the planet will still be healthy enough for them to live on.

I think this is the rhetoric the GOP latches onto when they try to refute climate change as a very real and very critical crisis. They hear us say were destroying the planet and then they think we think the planet is gonna implode in 20 years, when that's just not true. The planet will be just fine. She can take a hit and keep on spinning until the day the sun decides it's over, Earth's got another billion years at least. What we're doing is destroying the planet for human occupancy. This is too conceivable, because species go extinct everyday, and that's why they intentionally misunderstand. They'd rather paint us all as alarmists and that's so sad. R Wilson no they aren’t. They both have a carbon footprint per capita that’s 3 times smaller than the US. And that’s without taking into account how much of the pollution in China, that’s created by manufacturing goods for American companies.

Abby using the whattaboutisms and deflecting the conversation. There are so many things we can do in America to help the environment. Convert all government buildings to green energy such as solar and wind. That'll also help with the electric bill since so many of them keep the lights on 24/7. Convert as many apartment buildings and private homes to solar and wind. Rooftop gardens, especially in urban areas. Thise will help cool off buildings and possibly give food for the occupants if it's a food garden. Tear down abandoned buildings and replace them with parks and community gardens where everyone in a neighborhood helps out. It'll teach everyone how to grow their own food. Allow people in cities to collect rainwater instead of making it illegal. As long as the water is covered to stop mosquitos from breeding, it shouldn't be a problem. Plant more trees, especially fruit trees in public areas. The ideas are almost literally endless!

if the adults are leaving their children a world where hurricanes & heatwaves are stronger, more deadly, with less land to live & work on... it doesn’t matter if you think the worsening climate change rhetoric is turning people off. those people are and have been (for a long time) disinclined to change, even as the children themselves are expressing grave concerns for their future.

The comments on the view videos really dishearten me. Abby is making a great point here, and it seems like people are too ideological to try to see where she’s coming from (a place where many moderates and republicans live). What happened to coming from the perspective of “people are essentially good so if this person feels differently than me, I want to understand why bc they probably have an interesting reason”. Climate Change is vital. But Changing the Emotional Climate is essential. This is the root of virtually all our global ills. Greta Thunberg's force of nature is like a Rorschach Test. To some she's inspiration. To others she's manipulation. But no matter which side of the climactic Climate Divide there's ultimately only one side of this lopsided ride. It's about so much more than the weather. It's about whether or not we work together to temper the overheated Emotional climate. Maybe "Climate Change" is the messenger. And Emotional Climate Change is the message.
Thank you abby for missing the point entirely. If you truly care about something, you move heaven and earth to make it happen.
Have we pushed for alternatives to plastics and implemented their exclusive use? Have we imposed new rules for industrial polluters and penalties for violations? Have we implemented real, effective recycling efforts in our own country? Have we pushed to transition power use away from coal and oil?
The answer is no.
No one wants to be uncomfortable. No one wants to give up what they know. But if we've been living on borrowed time for years, and science screams that we've wasted almost all the time we had to avert permanent catastrophe, and we still sit back chatting about it...
We aren't exactly going to be lauded by generations going forward.

We should motivate by fear, we've tried encouraging people and that's not working so yes fear is the next tactic. It might not be morally right to some but if it gets the job done and gets people to work on this then we have to go that route.
People should be motivated by the fact that it's our planet alone! If your house was on fire would you need someone else to motivate you to stop the fire? No. It's the same thing.
