    While the anime version adds Weiss' family watching her fight, I love the OG one more because the dark background contrasting with the white actors really nails home the feeling of loneliness. Even at the beginning of the trailer, we see her in a stadium full of spectators and paparazzi but no one feels like they're really "there." Sure Weiss' family in the White trailer can still be watching her, but we as viewers can't see them. Weiss' mental space doesn't register them in the moment, so it really puts us in Weiss' shoes and it emphasizes how she's pitted against an opponent 10x her size and being all alone with no one to help her.
    I won't even compare the choreography and musical timing because nothing can top Monty's cinematography. He's mastered those aspects all around and it would be unfair to compare it to a retelling on a completely different medium.

      i agree. i think adding the family into the picture is too much especially for a trailer. its context/exposition that is misplaced and is added too early. It follows the trope of many other animes/characters and takes away from Weiss by adding her family.

    Man, i miss watching Monty Oum's animations. It's snappy, it's fluid and most of all, it gives a sense of its own floaty physics that they still, imo, struggle to emulate to this day. That said, I'm glad the anime is capturing a lot of that feel from the action scenes from the original and are giving more context to the shit they essentially added later on and pretended has always been part of the lore (they're not pretty good at having basic worldbuilding in the original first few volumes till they got an actual writer much later in the volumes).

    Ice Queen added some tension, and did a good job making the scene part of the larger story. But the original was a more exciting fight. The fluidity of the action and the camera, the pacing... Monty Oum really had a grasp for making fights a joy to watch.

  • @mariacillan9668
    @mariacillan9668 2 роки тому +387

    Both of these are amazing in their own way FOR the purposes they were made.
    The White trailer was just that--a trailer. It's purpose is to show what the show is capable offering in terms of visuals, choreography, timing, and animation. Monty did an amazing work with it, and the song in the background was also great. But when we first saw it, we had no idea what it even was about, but it was just a huge hint of what Weiss as a character is. All of the White Trailer was just a teaser and it's amazing.
    IQ's bit served as an INTRODUCTION, not only to Weiss as a character, but to a vital part of the story. With the medium, of course we can't get the exact frame rate, the angles, and they had to adjust the timing of the choreography so it would flow according to the fps, but at least we get some artful keyframes that I should commend for its clarity! I often have a hard time watching action anime for that very problem, but IQ so far nails it. They added the Schnee family as art of that storytelling process, which is a great decision, in my opinion, as the intro already serves as a summary of, if not the entire story, at least the characters involved. Everything is clearer to us in just a few minutes, and we're not left wondering about what else the story has to offer. That being said, I'll forever miss the original soundtrack, but I can understand why they won't add that--copyright stuff included.
    In my opinion, no one won because they're not supposed to compete with each other. They have different purposes. The original was to showcase Monty's animation, IQ focused on the storytelling aspect and seems to aim at fixing the amount of errors in the original's story, but also giving it its own path to forge. Comparing them would be as pointless as debating the better Joker among Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix. So far, I'm impressed.

    • @joshuaf2072
      @joshuaf2072 2 роки тому +13

      I would actually disagree. In terms of pure storytelling I don't think the anime version does much of that. It feels more like easter eggs or fan service to include her family since someone unfamiliar with the source material will still not get a lot of characterization from it aside from that Jacques not believing in her as much as Winter. We don't even know who Jacques or Winter is so there's not much we can analyze about her family situation from this.
      What's great about the original trailer was the music got in her head and did some foreshadowing of her character arc. It also alluded to her singing career and popularity contrasted with her loneliness on her path as a warrior. There was a lot of symbolism (e.g. the mirror transitions and the shuttering of the lights in the performance hall as she dedicated herself fully to the strike) and it had a theme whereas the anime discarded the theme of loneliness and symbolism in order to be realistic.

    • @mariacillan9668
      @mariacillan9668 2 роки тому +14

      @@joshuaf2072 Valid, valid. I kinda fail to see them as easter eggs tho because it's been so long since I dove into RWBY itself, it's as if I'm looking at the anime through fresh eyes instead of coming from the original. I'd really have to disagree with the fan service part. Before the fight, it was well-established what kind of family Weiss has: a mother with drinking problems, a devious younger brother, a judgemental and belittling father, and a sister that at least tries to train her to be better. Even from someone who has forgotten the original source material, I learned so much about the characters faster than I did when watching the original RWBY, having to wait like.. 3 volumes? Then honestly I stopped watching after that.
      As for the themes of loneliness being discarded for the anime, I understand the anime would feel very impersonal to a lot of people because it doesn't emphasize what Weiss *feels* underneath the stress of her family's expectations. Maybe I forgot to put this is in my original comment, but the White trailer's purpose included that-emphasis on who she is as a character and what she's feeling. Side note, I've always believed her singing career was just an excuse to add the track reasonably into the episodes, but I never took her seriously as a singer because she doesn't sing for the rest of the series (or I stopped watching when she did again), so I'd understand why they would remove that trait from her.
      In IQ tho, we already have an establishment of what her family is like before the reanimated White trailer portion, so the audience can have an idea of how lonely she is already, but we don't need to dwell on it. While the White trailer requires introspection from the audience to relate to the showcasing of Weiss's character-because it is a *trailer* which teases what the show can bring and introduces just a hint of the characters, in this case, Weiss's true feelings, the anime is more forward in it's storytelling and doesn't need to dwell on Weiss's situation. The anime focusing on moving forward, and same with Weiss. The fight focuses on what Weiss HAS TO DO even if it's against her family's expectations.
      Tldr: White trailer focuses on Weiss's feelings while being pressured by her family; IQ focuses on Weiss's liberation, determination, and rebellion against those pressures. It's not about being lonely anymore, it's about doing what has to be done despite the pressures.

    2:07 it doesnt feel like she stabbed the rapier to the ground, more like gently poked it. I think they added to much frames there and her posture isnt low enough, you can literally see her muster her strength to thrust that sword but her body doesnt even recoil from the impact unlike the original where she is literally on her knees since the rapier was stabbed through the ground. The ice is a bit too slow, the reason it was fast in the original is because she wants to keep distance from the golem while still catching it off guard. In the anime, the golem just lost a couple of braincells(or intelligence) from a few seconds ago where it could somewhat react and follow the movements of Weiss but now it couldnt even see the slowly crawling ice on the floor. The removal of the green power(forgot what it was) at 2:15 is just weird, the power literally blows the hand of the golem from below to disarm it while in the anime it just shows Weiss overpowering the golem when SHE LITERALLY COULDNT EARLIER to disarm him. The removal of the song from the Original and the scenes of Weiss in the stage just removes the vibe and the character it is trying to portray. The loneliness you can feel from the trailer is gone from this one and it saddens me a bit. The fight was like the symbolism of her fighting against her loneliness in that scene. Though I didnt watch past season 3, I really liked the show and its kinda sad for this trailer to not give us insight on the character of Weiss but more on her family situation.
    Edit: Another thing I would like to add, at 1:27 you could see her become sad since she couldn't beat the golem with her own skill and effort. She has to resort on the dusts which she got with her father's wealth which she absolutely hates. In 2:23 even she is sad, she sees how easy it is to defeat the golem using dusts. In the original it is portrayed as a sad thing through the music and her expressions but in the anime it is portrayed as triumph which is NOT her character. She hates relying on her father's wealth and pursues independence from the name of Schnee which defined her whole life.

    I'm very impressed by the timing and shots that line up so well. Even if delayed, the amount of frames that are paying homage to the og trailer is very beautiful and respectful. Adding and expanding in a new way. The original RWBY will always be close to our hearts, it's the series we've come to love (or hate). I think a good portion of Ice Queendom shows a level of love, attention to detail, and respect for the original material.
    It's a different universe, a new take. It's not a replacement. Holding it to the expectation of it doing so will both disappoint you, and take away what makes Ice Queendom good. They come from the same idea, but they don't have to be the same.
    If this version followed the og to a T, then we'd be bored. New scenes, revisions, additions- all make this a unique retelling of RWBY. Not to say I love the new anime or that I don't have some issues with it. But I do have an open mind. This video shows a lot of care to the details shown in the original trailer. Some shots are almost identical! That's beautiful and I really appreciate how they decided to keep it in their re-imagining.

    IDK if this is just my dumbass Opinion, but generic anime fight music does not feel correct for some of these iconic fight scenes.
    The distracting lack of Mirror Mirror, From Shadows or Red like Roses during these iconic fights kinda took me out of the experience imo. Im not asking for straight up ports of the og music you can remix it or just add key litmotiffs. It just doesn't fucking feel right to my lizard brain without it. Still most of everything is way better and the character writing is competent this time.
    They even manged to make the fights look really good, nothing in comparison to OG Monty but still well adaptated nonetheless.

      The OG trailers were meant to potray a character by the fight coreography and looks alone , not the writing immo , also really hard to have all those well choreographed fights Monthy did , in 2D since that's not a company like A-1 pictures or Ufotable , Shaft has been revamping their animation quality but it still very recent , like , it even lead Magia Record to have some production problems , also it would take way much time to produce . About the songs well copyright right?They wouldn't buy Mirror Mirror rights for a fight that don't last more than three fricking minutes or less , since they're rushing the scenes already established by the OG to jump into the new plot but i do agree that some fights scenes or script decisions are questionable , but not bad

    Мне нравятся оба
    В оригинале за счет 3D анимации получилось более плавное и мягкое движение, что смотрелось выигрышно и динамично. Плюсом к этому была постановка боя, которая дополняла плюсы 3D анимации. Также круто смотрелись цветовые решения. Чувствовалось одиночество
    И я не могу сказать, что аниме как-то сильно проиграло на фоне. Да, это не уровень КРД, но бли выглядят достойно. Анимация на уровне. Были моменты, когда я даже удивлялась, потому что выглядело правда круто; круче, чем я могла подумать. Аниматоры и художники выложились, и это радует
    Я стала рассматривать аниме не как адаптацию или ремейк, а как отдельное произведение по мотивам, наверное, поэтому и не расстраиваюсь, когда что-то анимируют не так, как в оригинале или как мне бы хотелось

Where its ends up in this point where its so dificult to decifer certain motions that it almost feels like theres nothing truly happening, just a bunch of blurs on the screen. With Ruby it works really well because her power literally allows her to become a loose blob so that thing can flail around like crazy until theres a hit, where you can see the full body again. And like wtf they should have done what anime does best and go ward as fuck with the posing, but shes just kind of hunched over standing there kind of like shes not really into it. Where the hell is the warped perspective ballerina pose shot,.

    I still prefer the original one it showcases better uses of her glyphs, the choreography is superior and the dark background contrasts with with weiss better and gives you more of a feeling of loneliness which is a constant theme of her character. And the original has the original song that goes with it which just has more impact then what's in the anime one.

    One thing the anime wont accomplish is the colors. The one thing I liked about rwby was that a lot of the background was black so it made the fight even more highlighted. The knight somehow looked even taller and scarier because of how it ominously popped up outta no where. It was almost as if it appeared from the darkness like its magic. The anime made it appear like it was robbitic and easy to destroy.

    So I clicked in, hoping to see a fresh take on Weiss, something that sets it apart from the literal flood of new anime this year AND the original.
    But after seeing how badly it fares compared to the classic elegance and beauty of the original...
    I guess some things are meant to stay in my memories.
    P.S. I don't mean to say that it's trashy or not worth watching at all (the animation isn't bad at all overall), but maybe I had too high expectations of it and I was terribly disappointed as a result. For those who do enjoy it, ganbatte! I wish it all the best.

    Again, I find myself liking the new Anime version more. It feels more inclusive of being part of an actual story or world rather than the original that feels ironically more like a fan adaptation of a character's story. The fighting itself feels more grounded with the large knight having mass to match its physical form but not being comically slow or in the OG almost immersion breaking quick. Weiss's movements also match what one would expect a versatile technique with agile capability but fragile enough that she's not a frontline slug fighter such as Yang, Nora, Jaune or even Pyrrha going for wide motions rather than random moves that has the aura (pun intended) of artistic flourish to sell a trailer or idea for a series on the creator's part rather than the practicality of a girl that's trying to prove herself. Ultimately, the OG version suffers from Monty's arcade animation style, which is good in its own way but the anime one looks like an actual fight between a giant knight and a normal size teenage girl.
    I also can't help but wonder if people would like the anime version more if it came out first in regards to the blatant, yet in good faith, nostalgia and admiration that people had for Monty.

    • @jamilgonzaga7081
      @jamilgonzaga7081 2 роки тому +4

      I haven't watched both of the versions, yet I find myself liking the CGI more than the anime. Sure, the anime has top notch qualities and does a good justice to fighting scenes, however, it lacked some important parts where some characters do their own unique flashy moves in the original one and some scenes were quite slower, I felt that it was unnecessarily needed to do to make the fight longer and more "impact"
      The original might not have good special fx but the choreography of the fight is so brilliant it's put of this world, no one can even do that kind of possibility of executing it perfectly. I find myself learning this Monty literally knows what he's doing, normally I would mock 3d animes because not only do they have budgets, they won't know what to do to animate properly. To me, Monty is such a brilliantly genius animator despite the budget. He knew so much what to do
