i agree. I hope that the zero fret becomes a standard for all companies in the future. they help the feel of the 1st fret so much

I got it in August! 5 string, same finish with 3 band eq and tap-coil switch. I can die happy now =]

+Roosevelt Mercado Where did you order it? The California VM (P Bass style) normally doesn't have a coil split for the humbucker in the bridge position. It's only an standard in the California TM (Jazz Bass style). Or did you you modify it yourself? Because that's exactly what I would call a perfect bass. You would have the best of both worlds (Jazz and P bass). Also love that Sandberg installs the P pickup reversed.

Several years ago I bought a used bass that was strung with roundwounds and set up to deliver a sound very similar to this one. The first thing I did was re-string with flats and do a set-up to get rid of all of the string buzzing and fret noise. Nowadays, it seems that has become a desirable or popular sound. Different strokes...

"It essentially plays itself!" LOL! Like one of those old pianos. Great demo. Very sexy bass.

lots of folks stick with the 'zero fret makes an open string sound the same as a fretted note' tone thing still. and as you correctly pointed out, a case could be made for that. mostly zero frets- historically- were there to cut costs. but a level zero fret helps with intonation on the lower frets closest to the nut.
an aside about tone- a guitarist friend of mine swears he can hear the difference in nut material on his guitar... at 110dB. i hate everything about talking about tone haha.

The zero fret is on the neck for intonation, not "sustainability and overall tone" although I'm certain a case could be made for that as well ;)

Sounds great, but you didn’t show everyone the full potential of the bass. Active and passive.
Still think you could of played longer.
    Thanks
