I am shocked--SHOCKED--that you didn't choose the James Joyce book for your replacement readathon read! 😅😅
I think your ability to forget what happens in a mystery, and then remember the wrong thing, is a superpower! There are a lot of mysteries I wish I could rediscover!

Haha, James Joyce will have to wait for another day 😅
Forgetting what happens in a book can be a bit annoying but is pretty handy for rereading!

ahhh, at least I redeemed myself with the Jeanette Winterson rec!
I’m not trying to change your mind as I can totally see why the male character in Kala (tortured musician turned newly sober ‘reformed’ local business owner) won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s a necessary part of the book’s dynamic when you get further into the plot a little bit. he loved Kala and holds her to such high regard / puts her on a pedestal to such an extent that he fails to acknowledge the darker more imperfect elements of her life, it’s quite powerful in retrospect / wider context but I do see why it could grate on someone at the beginning. it’s also quite a heady hazy lazy days of summer book, so if you’re a seasonal reader like me it possibly won’t be best suited to this time of year either! you know I always respect a DNF though, just playing devil’s advocate ♥️

Maybe I should have pushed through that first section. May try again at some point. It could be a rare example of a book that I try again and really like!
Those Jeanette Winterson stories were excellent 😁

I never realised how long the blind assassin is! It's been on my tbr for so long.

The cat not letting you get even a few minutes into filming without needing attention 😂
Shame you DNF’d Kala - I still want to read it soon. And Life After Life sounds so wonderful, has it in my shelf for ages but somehow one never read any Kate Atkinson!

Haha, yeah, the cat was literally hanging off the door, claws dug in 🙈🤷
Life After Life was just so wonderful, I hope you enjoy it when you get to it 😊

Sad about The Goodbye Cat as I really enjoyed The Travelling Cat Chronicles too. I do struggle with short stories though so trust your judgement on that one. Great wrap up as always ❤

Thanks Charlie 😊 The Goodbye Cat wasn't bad at all, just lacking something for me.

I really loved Kala but the main male narrator was written in 2nd person which I didn't enjoy. However its also written in 1st and 3rd person which gave each person a different style. I enjoyed it and recommend you try again.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed because I love The Travelling Cat Chronicles. This one wasn't bad by any means but just lacked something for me.
