  • We discover how to create a template model and reuse it with linking or just copying. It is a very powerful way to create models from other base or master models.

    Enjoyed the little glimpse into your background. I'm not terribly shocked at your old avocation. Those technical skills show up in your videos.

      Thanks, I loved making things then went on to be a design engineer, I actually have a patent 😎

      Well said Dana, it was a bit of an Ah! Ha! That explains a lot - moment for me too.

    Why don't you need a binder to set the link properly? Just watched your Video #42 before and there a binder was required to get the linked sketch working...
    Sometimes FC is really confusing. Still struggling sometimes with the simplest tasks (but maybe they only LOOK simple).
    Thanks for your really interesting and helpful video series y I really appreciate the way you explain!

      FC can be confusing sometimes but if you follow the methods you will soon be able to do them on your own.

      @@Adventuresincreation Thanks a lot for your quick reply and that you take the comments even to your older videos serious 😊
      So do I get it right: To link a sketch you first have klick the link button and then you need to to create a binder to be able to use it in a body whereas if you want to link a body it's only necessary to klick the link-button and everything is done?
      I didn't use these functions up to now. My main method was (and will certainly stay) parametric construction using spreadsheets, what works fine most of the time...

      @@geraldhinterleitner9568 yes, you have the linking working correctly. I like using spreadsheets too. I am also a fan of dynamic data.

    Big fan of freecad, I learned it on my own over years. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, it's every bit as valuable as the people writing the code.

    This is perfect for what I needed making an rc wheel with different spokes. Would there ever be a need to copy the planes as well?

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 роки тому +1

      It's on a case by case basis. If you have created non standard planes then copy those just no need to duplicate them.

    Is there any way to have the CopyPart, but where it reflects changes made to the TemplatePart? So basically having a LinkPart but that doesn't go both ways, only from TemplatePart->LinkPart

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  Рік тому

      That would just be a linked part.

      From what I can tell these are the configurations
      TemplatePart CopyPart
      TemplatePart Linkpart
      TemplatePart --> SublinkPart (where you can't actually change the SublinkPart)
      I'm looking for this configuration
      TemplatePart LinkPart
      Where you can add to the LinkPart but these changes do not reflect in the TemplatePart, and you can't change properties from the TemplatePart. Basically to make it possible to start from a template but being able to make variations of a model without affecting the template. Basically like a Copy, but linked like a Sublink.

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  Рік тому

      @@bassmeo3937 I got ya, that's not possible, the closest is a copy. The reason you can't "branch" but still have the template changes come through is the local changes may break those template changes. I wanted the same though.

    • @bassmeo3937
      @bassmeo3937 Рік тому

      @@Adventuresincreation Thanks for the info! Yeah I somewhat get the design decision to not include it as it could potentially break things, but it would make small variations incredibly easy to do for simpler objects. Shame.
