- Warning from Space (Japanese: 宇宙人東京に現わる, Hepburn: Uchūjin Tokyo ni arawaru, lit. 'Spacemen Appear in Tokyo') is a Japanese tokusatsu science fiction film released in January 1956 by Daiei, and was the first Japanese science fiction film to be produced in color. In the film's plot, starfish-like aliens disguised as humans travel to Earth to warn of the imminent collision of a rogue planet and Earth. As the planet rapidly accelerates toward Earth, a nuclear device is created at the last minute and destroys the approaching world.
The film, directed by Koji Shima, was one of many early Japanese monster films quickly produced after the success of Toho's Godzilla in 1954. The film was loosely based on a novel by Gentaro Nakajima. After release, the film was met with negative reviews, with critics calling it "bizarre" and accusing it of using science fiction clichés. Warning from Space influenced many other Japanese science fiction films, such as Gorath. The film, along with other 1950s tokusatsu science fiction films, influenced director Stanley Kubrick, who would later direct 2001: A Space Odyssey.

This film is pretty amazing when you put it into historical context. Japan surrendered a mere 10 years earlier and the entire country was still recovering. Life was *extremely* difficult, and the Japanese people were making sci-fi films. Incredible.
It is really a good film to show life there.
The movie featuring the biggest stars in Japanese cinema then.
Yes it is outstanding!
You cannot compare this movie to "Plan 9".
This one has that kick ass dance number.
7 out of 10.
This is one of those films that you saw when you were young and you could never find it again until now!❤
All of the fear, the anguish, the crazy static from the transistor radios, all of this, all this, if only someone would've called - The Prince Of Space!
Tokyo, everything's happening in Tokyo. Godzilla, Gamera, Flying Saucers, you name it. I just clicked on the thumbnail, but then I couldn't resist watching this, now I wish it was wide screen. Japanese have interesting take on aliens. Great stuff.
When I was kid I loved this stuff. Every Saturday morning you'd find me glued to the floor getting my weekly fix of horror and science fiction. No matter how bad it was it was better than growing up in the dull suburbs.
I was the same way in Cleveland Ohio!
When a movie begins with a balloon full of red paint splashing against a wall you know it’s going to be epic. But seriously, I remember this movie from when I was a kid. It was released under the title, “Invasion of The Star Creatures”.
I remember seeing this on creature double feature on channel 48 in the late 60s in Philly!
the star creatures trousers remind me of baron vonshitzhispantz
THIS ISLAND 🏝️ EARTH 🌍
Great sci-fi movie!
Well I was yet borned at the time being, but still thanks to whom uploaded this movie😅😅 maybe a movie made in between 50's are made of.like's the War in the world,at 54.😅😅
An old classic this one!
The film that inspired Ed Wood...
I keep thinking of how dedicated to science and technology post WWII Japan seemed to be. The emperor -that's Hirohito, by the way - may have started a tradition of researcher monarchs with research on fish, leading to academic work on various subjects by his successors Akihito and Naruhito.
As for Hirohito, yeah, I know, pretty controversial person due to WWII itself, but be survived the war and arguably redeemed himself.
Come on y'all. Plan 9 was crap. This film had a real live budget. It had a legitimate plot. And dance scenes! Tap dancing, even a Caribbean number! But why did Tokyo have to evacuated if the world was going to blow up? Yeah, the rest of it was quite plausible!
I grew up watching Sponge Bob so all I see is Patrick, Patrick, and Patrick. (I was waiting for Sponge Bob and Squid-worth to make a cameo along the way!)
J'adore les films de science fiction japonaise
"Shrimps & rice are very nice"😂
Excellent acting and story. Surprised a movie with Japanese actors would have been shown in the usa in 1956.
Um, when did the first Godzilla movie come out?
I know some are bad but that's the fun of all then
a rare beauty
PsyOps from Psyclops
😂😂🎉😂😂
Starfish from Phishtar
It doesn't make sense that she tried to infiltrate by floating in a lake. It was only a coincidence that someone came by in a boat.
Since this movie is in public domain can i play it on my UA-cam Channel?
Leave it to the Japanese to create a movie that rivals "Plan 9" for being so bad. And their space creatures, where do they come up with such creatures. Still, fun to watch. Joe S
Sous titre en français voisin Thierry France 😅
岡本太郎デザインのパイラ星人は後の「ガメラ」にも彼らを友情出演させて
ガメラを助ける宇宙人という構想が湯浅監督や高橋監督の中にあったという。
Well if u made the aliens more believable, instead of someone under the sheets.csnt watch it
Amazing....no hands or fingers...who built the spaceship? Or drove it?
But yeah, I tell all of my interstellar visitors, if you want to fit in, change your shape/appearance to a really hot chick ...
川崎敬三
I never thought I'd find a sci-fi movie that was so bad that it makes 'Plan Nine From Outer Space' look good by comparison. *Well, here it is. 💣
Yea, this one is special ❤
Then I MUST watch it!😂
Excellent!
This movie is a classic! I love the cross section of life in Japan!

Thanks Tony! Besides spicy foods, one of my passions is old Public Domain films! I’ll be uploading more as time goes on. May even start filming fun intermissions.

Pourquoi avez-vous mis le même commentaire 4 fois ?
2 minutes in - yikes.
It's disappointing when the voice actors can't even pronounce Japanese names correctly.
Yes, I’m devastated!
Can we complain to a Manager?
😂😂😂
American International sucks baws!
Boring!
I mean, if you ignore the cultural and social contexts, forget the fact that the effects they used in this movie were cutting edge at a time when scifi movies were few and far between, and throw out the notion that this movie inspired a LOT of modern films then I guess it’s boring. But that’s a lot of mental gymnastics for me. I’d rather appreciate it for its content and contributions without basically needing to hollow out my own brain than call it boring. That’s just me tho.
