    You can get longer whips and additional arms to make it longer. This helps a lot. Also, the clips go on like an upside down J. That way, if it comes loose, it lays flat against the coil winding below it. Also, the MFJ-1979 model will go up to 17 feet and is only $25 more. You can use it without any coil on the upper bands, down to 20m.

    Another excellent video the buddistick is great and highly portable in its fitted case.
    Light weight and quick & easy to set up.
    Another great portable but expensive is the chameleon with its micro coil can be used as a vertical antenna like the buddistick or with an end fed wire.

    Thank you for this review! I have been looking at getting this antenna for some time now, but I have not seen a review that lays it out so clearly.

    Great review,. I love my Buddipole/stick. You don't see too many reviews on it. Put a plastic bag over the coil in the rain

      How about good quality electrical tape where the whip sections meet when it's raining? Keep water out...

    Thank you for the review. You've a nice east style and provide a quite informative review. Am considering getting one for remote work (POTA etc.) and your review certainly helps.

    Why does BuddiStick suggest that the radials be elevated? Why would it be inefficient when the radial is on the ground? Should there be more radials to make it more efficient? thx.

    It is a hi Q compromise antenna. Portable best but for those of us in HOA or almost no garden, it works. Cost here is such I plan to get my own (Barrowed one) and just get basic buddipole set up. Will not need to start adding as with other. You can lay down over 600.00 on this but a little preplanning can save you a lot of money. Over all only 40 meters was a poor performance. no attempt on 80 but 30 meters no show 20,17,15,12,10,6 more than adequate phone and data. Made 17 meter which was completely new band for me. It is what it is a very well made compromise antenna and ideal for portable POTA/SOTA. TNX

    Yea- used to be able to get this for $139. Now thats not an option. You have to buy the Buddistick pro- for $200. Only difference is the $59.00 for the tripod plastic hub piece which has been redesigned. Kind of a bummer that if you dont need the newer version- you are not given the option to buy the cheaper original version for $139.

      Oh/ and the legs dont come with the version for $200. The original tripod was around $25. If you want the legs for the new buddistick pro you are looking at $50. For a total price of $250 versus $165- versus original version which inculdes older tripod. That beinf said the newer tripod combination is MUCH better than original design.

    i have an older one. i'm still am not sure whether the placement of the aluminum rods makes a difference.
    as for the whip, sir, you didn't mention the mfj part number for a bit longer whip. they have several.
    thanks much and, btw, you have a lovely garden.

    What kind of con's have you found with this antenna?? Also, does it need radials?

    • @watersstanton
      @watersstanton  4 роки тому

      Hi there. Cons: narrow band. You need at least one radial on the ground. 73s Peter.

    Why not a Buddipole, which easily can be set up as a stick?

    Sorry I hit key. How sensitive is it to high above ground or lower than 1 meter off ground?

    • @watersstanton
      @watersstanton  4 роки тому

      Richard, it is not sensitive in that way at all. I have used it at around level. 73s Peter.

      @@watersstanton Good. I do note the fact house is a stucco and chicken wire Faraday box does mix it up a bit on antenna . I thought might be too close to ground.

  • @richard-fy2mu
    @richard-fy2mu 4 роки тому

    I expect over there restrictions on antennas are issue too. Have ft857d and no HF antenna. HOA!!!! It cost a whole lot less than a resonant loop. I do not see how it would be very good with out loading coil to off set ground to counterpoise capacities reactance .

    Who needs a Buddistick antenna when you can make a homemade tv antenna like I did for $3.00? Stranded copper wire poked into the back of my tv ran about 10 feet of the wire up my wall and tappped it into my curtain rod. Best antenna to have. On a clear night based on sky,weather conditions and wind direction I can pull in stations over 100 miles away on my tv. The copper wire I used was only 30 cents a foot.
