    JS3 here (writer/director)! Just wanted to express my gratitude to you all for watching. And to DUST for sharing, and the cast and crew for all the hard work that went into this piece. As someone who's struggled with identity myself, I loved the idea of using sci-fi/cloning as a way to explore the "self." Hopefully there's something here that can speak to all of you. Thank you again! And please... go out and create something. It's more important now than ever to get new voices telling stories.

      I already wrote a comment, but let me interject and say that, if one stops to think about your story, there are a ton of interesting ways to go off of it. Themes such as self harm, isolation, identity and its loss, never mind the sci-fi aspects and the lore of this world you created.
      For such a short story, it is really deep and meaningful.
      Thanks again to you and your crew for creating it!

We live in a world where there are so many millions of people who don't care about anyone but themselves, who have lost all compassion and ability to love in any non-superficial way. Not to mention unbridled narcissism.

    Ana (as well as each of the others) was created with an initiative presumably of Woman (the original): that her eight clones were intended not to create individuals...but rather a collective whole (aka KORA) comprised of two teams. However, it can be presumed that other people making use of cloning would not all do it in line with this approach. That is, a clone could be produced with an intent to simply to develop as a new individual...much like the person who Olive had turned/reverted into as a result of trauma/stress encountered in their rough landing. It's safe to assume the mission was known to be high risk. That even a single lander making it was not at all guaranteed. At first I thought this was just a staged event...one designed to evaluate how clones respond to stress in advance of a mission. But at the end with the lander door open, I now believe they did arrive at some planet/moon. Can the mission still succeed with only two clones? It's uncertain.
    But aside from cloning technology, in this future there also exists memory control...which is accomplished via injection of the fluid contained in the vial. With such power, programmed memories are introduced supporting the importance that KORA must remain intact...up to and including administering a forcible injection in a situation such as this...and to do it quickly. The recitation of their creed/code is an indicator that a particular clone's programming is intact. Ana already understands clearly that Olive isn't interested in administering the fluid herself. So she takes the first opportunity she gets to subdue (knockout) Olive and forcibly give her the injection.
    The periodic cuts briefly showing Woman is presumably her listening in to the communications of the KORA mission. I would presume she is an active member of the mission. Not that she's in charge of the mission (but quite possibly). And that's an interesting aspect: Did she willingly consent to this? Prior to cloning, maybe all the team members were evaluated as to who offered the best personal attributes for addressing the needs of the mission. In a dystopian future, she was essentially 'compelled' to do this. And she remains assigned to the mission to provide insights. In a less dystopian future, maybe this was a great honor being selected for this. Maybe this is a mission of China...where collectivism is regaled over individualism. In any case, it broaches the issue as to putting at risk a clone's life. Are they in fact viewed as less beings? Just expendable cogs in a KORA unit? Is Woman looking in with horror at the goings on? Or indifference?
    But that's just my musings. Thanks much to JS3 and his team for this fun production. Kudos!

    • @braintic
      @braintic 18 годин тому

      Great summary! I always feel like I'm missing something in these abstract shorts. Heck, a lot of the time, I'm left with more questions than answers.
      I would like your opinion on one thing: What if Olive wasn't given the injection? Wouldn't the end result be the same which is "waiting for a rescue ship"?

    • @jaybingham3711
      @jaybingham3711 18 годин тому

      @braintic A rescue ship certainly could be in route. But without Olive's memories, it's possible her lack of access to valuable learned skills could drastically effect her and Ana's ability to survive. For sure, though, mission objectives would be compromised. My view, however, is that no rescue is underway. That in this future clones are very much expendable...ideal for being sent on risky missions to develop outposts. Thanks much for your kind remark.
