Looks fantastic! I am absolutely doing this in our family room - I can’t believe it never occurred to me. We are working our way through our home, updating from a generation ago. But I’ve felt bad about wasting really high-quality items just because they’re outdated. Not only will this save us money, it will make us feel better for upcycling the fan instead of just tossing it in the garbage. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Lindsey , Rob and Little Miss Camera girl ….🥰🥰 Love her narrating through the video…too cute ! LOVE THE FAN BLACK and the new globes ! Totally brought it back into style. Thank goodness for paint and globes right? Love these little short videos….keeps us in touch. Have a blessed week 💛💛💛🙏🙏🙏💛💛💛
I'm always surprised at how much simple changes (especially paint) can transform objects. Went from being super dated to looking pretty & modern. Nice job! :)
Amazing update. It looks like an entirely new fan/light. Your ideas are so inspiring and your husband is great at helping them come into fruition. I always love seeing Selah working on her videographer skills. Stay blessed.
It does not even look like the same fan! I Love it! Those Edison light bulbs 💡 look amazing too. Once again, you guys have done a beautiful job. Much Love sent your way😘
@@ourdiyary Awe! You are so welcome Sweet Girl. I enjoy your videos so much. God has really Blessed you guys in every way & I Love what you're doing with your new home❤
I can’t believe I doubted you wife! I thought the paint would chip off after we installed it but i was wrong! I loved how this turned out and am so glad you filmed the wires so we could put it back up right. I love you! I also want to thank Selah for tilting the camera to make it more “interesting” :)
Clever idea. I redid a light fixture in my bathroom using the same things - black spray paint to cover over antique bronze and new clear glass shades and Edison light bulbs. The fan I have to replace is just too huge for the space, but for the right sized fan this is a great option to refresh and update.
*Another "fantastic" (pardon the unintentional pun! 🤣) budget-friendly DIY update project, Lindsey and Rob‼️🥰 And little Miss Selah is stepping up her filming, composition and narration skills - BOLDLY! Good for you, Lindsey, with your encouraging parenting style, skills and mindset to enable Selah to spread her wings and confidently learn skills far earlier than her contemporaries❣️🥰😉*
That looks really great! I have 3 brass/wood ones that are screaming 2002 at me everytime I look at them 😬 plus all the brass tone ceiling lights. I think this is my spring project now, although I dont have your extra special helper to film it for me!😄 She is getting so grown up!!❤❤❤
So I just painted master bedroom set yesterday and today and now was looking at the ceiling fan wondering how I could make it more updated and so I figured I'd search for it on UA-cam and came across your video. So glad I found this...will definitely be painting the fan very soon
What a difference a different paint color made. Beautiful. I love your junior camera person. Good job Selah! Have a great Sunday friends. Blessings - Judith 🎵🎭
That looks so much better! Well done! It's all coming along! You have high ceilings, so black works well. I'm painting mine white to match the ceiling since we have a small room with a low ceiling. Gotta love Selah cam. 😂
Lindsey, the fan looks great. Where did you find the glass globes as I'd love to get some of them too? Looks like I have a new project to do...lol. Selah has grown so much in the couple of years I've been following you. She's going to be so independent when she's older because of you. You have been such a force of nature and I have loved watching you and your family grow.
II am here because I just took down and swapped out the ceiling fan in my bedroom. The difference in the quality between the old one and the new modern one became immediatly obvious to me. The old one came with the house I've lived in for 16+ years and runs just fine still. Looks almost identical to the one in this video. It also weighs about twice as much as the new one (no fun to lift). But It has a proven track record for durability. The new one seems kinda cheap by comparison but it only cost $100 and not $230 like the one in the kitchen. Even so it is black and looks modern and chic. It has a led light kit, remote control and an app. Even though its an inexpensive Chinese version of a more expensive fan you could not tell at a glance. I would leave it up but the deal breaker is that it can't be adjusted for just a soft gentle breeze. This a 52" and it moves way too much air on its lowest setting. So it has to go and what a waste of time and money. That promted me to take a hard look at the old one. It is beautfully made in antique brass . All it really needs are the fan blades to be black lacquer in order to match my bedroom set. But I was excited about the more modern feature offered on the newer one. I could lose that outdated light kit for something sleek. So I thought why dont I just paint the blades and while I am at it find a modern light kit. A remote control is not necessary but would be a cherry on top and I just so happen to have one left over from another project. Now if I can only find a way to conceal the interface inside the fan housing somehow. Yours is the first video I found. I would not dream of spraying that antique brass with paint but that is neither here nor there. Thanks for the video.
if i remember correctly this is the original hunter ceiling fan well the very first low profile flush mount ceiling fan with 4 blades but there is 5 blades available though. which this one is based on hunter studio.
Did you have to be careful to avoid spraying the black spray paint inside of the fan and possibly harming the motor? Or is the motor sealed/protected? Secondly, Do you think this would have as favorable results with silver spray paint over a white fan and glass cut, shimmering light shades?
If you're hesitant about getting too much paint in the motor, you can tape it off. Silver over a white fan would look awesome! Good luck with your project!
I'm sorry you don't like it but fortunately, you don't have to live with it! :) We are enjoying our new fan and appreciate only spending $60 versus buying a new fan. Maybe one day we will upgrade to a whole new one!
" tilted the camera so it would look more interesting " she's awesome 🥰 wow what a difference 👏
That line had me cracking up!

Beautiful upgrade! I’m glad you went with Edison bulbs, I was going to suggest that, but then you did it.🥰

Impressive! Looks great! Frugal! I love it!
Thank you!
Candelabra bulbs would look the best and they can be purchased in varying wattage so they are not too bright. Try those. Have a good day.
Thanks for the suggestion, Donna!
If you tilt the camera, it's more interesting, lol, your camera girl is hilarious. Love the channel.
Haha! I don't know where she got that line from!

Can you use a dimmer switch?
It is on a dimmer switch! :)
Where did you purchase the light covers?
It was Lowes or Home Depot!
Just get a new fan. The Hunter low profile is a uncommon fan(especially the brass ones)so don’t ruin it(it looks worse)
I'm sorry you don't like it but fortunately, you don't have to live with it! :) We are enjoying our new fan and appreciate only spending $60 versus buying a new fan. Maybe one day we will upgrade to a whole new one!
I’m wondering if after painting your blades if the fan wobbled?
It’s still holding up strong and we use it almost every night!
What bulbs and wattage did you use ?
They are Edison style bulbs, E26 base, 6W 4000K 120V.
Looks fabulous!!!!! You’re meticulous
Thanks, Chrissy!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
