Surprisingly, I find 3 or 4 on here I agree with whole heartedly. That is not intended as an insult at all, I am an " Odd Duck", not very often that I am in agreement with published opinion or point of view. Very happy to see " ...And Justice For All" get the love and respect I've always felt it deserves. It is on my short list of top 5 metal albums ever. Nothing wrong about it at all.
The mantle and blackwater park are two albums that shifted my perception of music so much they have gone on to define my taste in music. Glad you guys enjoy them as well.
Type O is definitely one of the most unique bands, you can try to sound like them, but you can never capture every little unique factor that makes Type 0 - Type 0.
My list Agalloch - pale folklore Woods of ypres - green album Darkthrone - under a funeral moon My dying bride - songs of darkness, words of light Slayer - hell awaits Dissection - storm of the lights bane Katatonia - viva emptiness Venom - Black metal Mercyful fate - dont break the oath Helloween - keeper of the seven keys

For Agalloch, I have the scenario where I first heard them on Ashes Against the Grain and that album represented a complete shift in my musical perspective. I then got into The Mantle which production wise is superior but I take them both as a yin yang pair (even though the band doesn’t love Ashes). When hiking, head out with Ashes return with the Mantle. Perfect.
a few of my favorites Agalloch - Marrow of the spirit Agalloch - Ashes against the grain Bell Witch - Mirror Reaper Opeth - Still life 40 watt sun - Perfect light Ethereal shroud - Triasagion Gorguts - Obscura Imperial triumphant - Spirit of ecstacy
Cool video. In terms of love/importance to me, it would have to be these 5 5. Tiamat - Wildhoney 4. Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse 3. Alice In Chains - Dirt 2. Type O Negative - October Rust/World Coming Down 1. Anathema - Judgement
My Favorite Metal Albums. Maybe a few hot takes... 10. In Flames - Come Clarity 9. Disturbed - Indestructible 8. Panopticon - Kentucky 7. (hed) P.E. - Califas Worldwide 6. Amon Amarth - Jomsviking 5. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory 4. A Forest of Stars - Beware the Sword You Cannot See 3. Vola - Witness 2. Boy Hits Car - Boy Hits Car 1. Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Totally with you guys on AIC, Opeth (Stilllife equally strong), Metallica and Death. My other picks are Slayer "Seasons...", Morbid Angel "Altars" (you have no idea what it was like back then writing for magazines and this music unlike anything ever made just starts popping up), Entombed "Left Hand..." and "Clandestine", Tool "Aenima", Behemoth "Satanist" (Apostasy close second) and my most important one, because it got me into metal : Iron Maiden "Live after Death" .Bought this album in '86, changed my life for ever.
My current top 10 Favorite albums ever (In no order, except my #1) Megadeth-Rust in Peace Dissection-Storm of the Lights Bane Ahab-Call of the Wretched Sea Type O Negative-October Rust Katatonia-Tonight’s Decision Alice In Chains-Dirt (Yep this is my favorite metal album of all time and my favorite album of all time in general) Carcass-Heartwork Intestine Baalism-Anatomy of the Beast Alcest-Ecailles de Lune Enslaved-In Times
Some great Album's here! So many awesome Music out there! Fantastic T Shirt Ben! One of my favorite Drummer's on it! 😜😜 Thanks for another great Video!! 💀🤘💀🤘
Good video and some great picks from ya'll. Ill throw out some of my favorite albums as well: King Diamond - Abigail Macabre - Sinister Slaughter Samael - Blood Ritual Mercyful Fate - Don't Break The Oath Sepultura - Arise The Tea Party - Transmission Static X - Wisconsin Death Trip Type O Negative - October Rust Tool - Lateralus Megadeth - Rust In Piece I'll leave it at 10 but i could add so many lol this was just off the top of my head 😅 keep up the great work 🤘
Type O, Alice, and Opeth are my three favorite bands of all time - any genre. Awesome to see them ALL get love here! And as far as, "Is it metal?" Alice themselves called themselves metal way back in the day. That's good enough for me. :D
As usual, Brandon's picks are spot-on and Ben's are a little "unconventional" lol. But that's why I love your channel - your individual tastes are so unique and eclectic it really makes for an interesting and diverse discussion and I always discover something new... in this case, Ben's pick of Misery Index led me to seek out that album and jam it for the first time Some big ones for me: -Emperor "anthems..." -Rammstein "mutter" -Fear Factory "obsolete" -Burzum "hvis lytet tar oss" -Dimmu Borgir "puritanical euphoric misanthropia" -Extol "undeceived" -Soul Embraced "immune" -In Flames "colony" -Agalloch "ashes..." -Nile "black seeds of vengeance" -Pissing Razors "fields of disbelief"
Great albums. And lists are kinda fun. If I think my top 10 of all time, it'll be damn hard to choose, but..... in no particular order SepticFlesh - Mystic Places Of Dawn Gorefest - False Grave - Soulless October Tide - A Thin Shell Anathema - Serenades Abominable Putridity - The Anomalies Of Artificial Origin Crowbar - Odd Fellows Rest Entombed - Clandestine Samael - Ceremony Of Opposites My Dying Bride - The Angel And The Dark River
I got to see Cradle of Filth live at the Beaumont Club in KC waaaay back in 2003 (Killswitch Engage opened for them)… they were legit great. Very fun. Dani is also like 3 ft tall, but a legendary performer… neither band half-assed that smaller show at all.
Great video ❤ I have two questions. 1. What bands are you guys in or have played with. 2. Can you do a room tour of that room your in. It looks pretty cool 🙂 Cheers from Sweden🤘
1. We’re in The Fateful Hour (we’re working on a new album, it’s melodic doom). I’m also in Marrowfields which is atmospheric doom and has a new album in the works. 2. I love the room tour idea! We’ll add that to the heap.
Great job, I love the fact you included Alice In Chains. I would include bloody kisses, icon, by paradise lost, and ceremony of opposites by Samael. But this is just my opinion. I’ll be checking out the records you recommended. Thank you.
Good list My list is : Opeth - Blackwater Park Alice in Chains - Dirt Death - Symbolic Metallica - Kill ´Em All Satan - Court In the Act Dark Angel - Time Does Not Heal Megadeth - Rust In Peace Iron Maiden - The Number of The Beast Theatre Of Tragedy - Aegis Vinnie Moore - Mind`s Eye
Good picks and some nice discoveries will definitely chek out Anathema and Nechochwen. Some of my favorites: Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane Slayer - Reign in Blood Wolves in the Throne Room - Black Cascade Taake - Hordalands Doedskvad Sinister - Diabolical Summoning Deicide - Once Upon the Cross Electric Wizard - Dopethrone Big Business - Here Comes the Waterworks
Dude.... I freaking love this channel. I have discovered so much amazing music from your recommendations. I am listening to Agalloch- The Mantle right now for the first time and this is absolutely stunning. Holy shit! I never knew about them. Thank you!! 🤘
My top 10 (off the top of my head, probably forgetting something) Tool - Lateralus Death - Symbolic Opeth - Morningrise Primus - Frizzle Fry Metallica - Kill Em All At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul In Flames - Whoracle Alcest - Kodama Elder - Dead Roots Stirring Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley
Great list! 10. Pantera - Far Beyond Driven 9. Opeth - Blackwater Park 8. The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium 7. Tool. Aenima 6. Between the Buried and Me - Colors 5. Gojira - From Mars to Sirius 4. The Contortionist - Language 3. Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia 2. Satyricon - Volcano 1. Meshuggah - Obzen
To pick just a Top 10 is seriously limiting, but I'll give it a shot: - The Fall of Ideals by All That Remains - There Is A Hell... by Bring Me The Horizon - New Bermuda by Deafheaven - From Death To Destiny by Asking Alexandria - The Poison by Bullet For My Valentine - Master of Puppets by Metallica - The End of Heartache by Killswitch Engage - Bilateral by Leprous - Crisis by Alexisonfire (not metal, but an extremely local band for me) - III by Billy Talent (also not metal, but too much nostalgia for me not to ignore)
Great list! Here's mine: 10. Edge of Sanity - Spectral Sorrows 9. Terrorizer - World Downfall 8. Darkthrone - A blaze in the norhtern sky 7. Cathedral ethereal mirror 6. Paradise Lost - Shades of God 5. Tiamat - Clouds 4. Samael - Worship Him 3. Christ Agony - Unholy union 2. Morbid Angel - Blessed are the sick 1. Brutal Truth - Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses
Astounded by the fact that 8 of those records are very easily among my own ten favourite as well (well, maybe not quite but they have all held a special place in my heart at one time or another). And that means, well, I just have to check out the two I have never heard (Nechochwen and Misery Index). Thanks for the rec!
Oh man, thinking about a Top 10 is rough. Here’s what comes to mind: - Judas Priest - Stained Class - Isis - Panopticon - Agalloch - The Mantle - Tribulation - The Formulas Of Death - Paradise Lost - The Plague Within - Pharaoh - The Longest Night - Insomnium - Above The Weeping World - Immortal - At The Heart Of Winter - Enslaved - Axoima Ethica Odini - Yob - Clearing The Path To Ascend
Only 2 things come to mind here, the woods of ypres EP before their first album... my god it showed so much potential!! And secondly Penumbra - Seclusion, no clue why i love this the way i do but it just clicks all metal boxes for me.
Before I watch I’ll share my top ten. It’s ever changing but this is it as of today. Also, one album per band: 10. Agalloch - The Mantle 9. The Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal 8. Between the Buried and Me - Colors 7. Wormwitch - Heaven That Dwells Within 6. Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle 5. Gallowbraid - Ashen Eidolon 4. Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name 3. Pain of Salvation - The Passing Light of Day 2. Mastodon - Crack the Skye 1. Opeth - Blackwater Park
Beautiful, comprehensive list you have there guys! Hearing Agalloch Tunes, i feel you sould give Germanys Empyrium - 'Songs of Moors and Misty Fields' from 1997 a thorough listen!
these would be the top 10 albums that got me into metal, 1- Rage - Trapped (first ever metal album I ever listened) 2- Iron Maiden - self titled 3 - Kreator - Endless Pain 4 - Opeth - Morningrise 5- Cradle of Filth - Principles of evil made flesh 6- Annihilator - Alice in Hell 7- Metallica - And justice for all 8 - Overkill - The Years of decay 9- Amorphis - Tales from the thousand lakes 10 - Samael - Ceremony of Opposites 11- Haggard - Awaking the centuries ( had to add them )
Indeed the timeless, flawless classic that is Blackwater Park! My other additions to this excellent list would be Judas Priest ‘British Steel’ Motörhead ‘Iron Fist’ Iron Maiden ‘Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son’ and Black Sabbath ‘Heaven And Hell’. As I was in high school in Scotland during the 1980s, headbanging to these albums on vinyl was a good way to keep warm
Awesome list, mate!! Your list is very similar to the other lists we've seen from our neighbors across the pond that grew up a generation before us. We appreciate your perspective!!
Thanks for this!! Your top selections show that you all are sophisticated consumers of the genre, enjoying only the most exquisite of sounds. Panopticon and Nechochwen showed me what solid BM really is, they were pivotal into leading me into my appreciation of blackend goodness. I don't really know what converted me into a metal fan, but discovering Sabbath (first three albums) and Megadeth (Countdown) graced my early days enjoying the genre. I recall the time I went to The Wall (music store) and walked out with both Cowboys from Hell and AstroCreep 2000; that was an important day.
@@forgemastermetal Hah! Thanks for the nostalgia trip. The Wall (which was a subsidiary of Camelot Music) was in a mall I grew up near in South Eastern VA. They had this lifetime guarantee sticker that accompanied all CDs; the sticker was frequently placed on the case. Apparently they would replace the disc for free if you scratched/damaged it... I never really tested that policy. But, as you can imagine, it wasn't too hard to just remove the booklet/disk/backcover of the case that had the sticker and get a lifetime guarantee on any CD you ever purchased.
Hard to pick 10 but here we go. Agalloch - The Mantle Opeth - Blackwater Park Slayer - Reign In Blood Death - Leprosy Megadeth - So Far, So Good, So What (I know it's not recognised as their best but it's the first album from them I heard and I listened to it a lot and still enjoy it) Avenged Sevenfold - The Stage Black Sabbath - Sabotage Entombed - Wolverine Blues Faith No More - Angel Dust (arguably not metal but close enough) Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime Have to give an HM to Ozzy - Bark At The Moon, the first metal album along with Motley Crue's first 2 albums I had heard and loved.
Dirt is one of the best albums of all time. Type O are groundbreaking; I'd put World Coming Down alongside October Rust in their catalog. And agree with Blackwater Park; that one blew my mind when I first listened to it. I'd round it out with: Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse, My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans, Swallow the Sun - Songs from the North, Katatonia - Dead End Kings (there are more from them I could pick!!) Behemoth - The Satanist, Schammasch - Contradiction, Rotting Christ - Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy. These lists could rotate on perhaps about a monthly basis, yes?
Fear Factory - Demanufacture October Tide - A Thin Shell A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms Amiensus - Ascension In Flames - Whoracle/Colony Beastwars - Blood Becomes Fire Swallow The Sun - When Shadow Is Forced Into The Light Ministry - Animositisomina and, of course, Type O - October Rust ;)
agalloch being my favorite band the mantle is only my third favorite 😅 marrow of the spirit and ashes against the grain are essentially perfection for me. the mantle isn't far behind though
If you are a diehard fan of the mighty Agalloch, you should listen the chilean band ,Uaral, specially their álbuns: "Sounds of pain" and "Lamentos a poema muerto". Handkerchieves included.
You boys definitely belong to another generation. Were I to list the ten albums that most shook my spine upon first listening, and then also subsequently (even today), I doubt that I would get very far beyond the 1983 mark...
Amorphis - tales from the thousand lakes Himinbjorg - Wyrd Manilla road - Atlantis Rising or Voyager Helheim - Landawarijar or about 4 other favorites from this band Einherjer - Norron or Blot...or Odin owns ye all Megadeth - so far, so good.. Arkona - Slovo Kampfar - Heimgang Holy Moses - the new machine of Liechtenstein Nuclear Assault, Brutality, Immolation, Cannibal Corpse, Skyforger, Death, Carcass, Neurosis, Primordial, Crisis, Gaahls Wyrd, Sacrifice, Sepultura, Bolt Thrower, Clutch, Judas Priest, Falkenbach, Enslaved, Gojira....just pick one. A top 10 is difficult. Dirt is one of my all time favorites. So is A silent enigma. Cool video y'all. Cheers 🍻
@@forgemastermetal that would be beyond difficult! I could 5 of each genre...maybe. Only 5 huh? Amorphis- tales from the thousand lakes Himinbjorg - wyrd Helheim - journeys and expiriences of death Manilla road Atlantis Rising Einherjer- Norron Final answer. Cheers ☕
Wow guys did you hack my play list... I'm gobsmacked. Type O (as expected), but to throw in Anathema, Cradle, Alice in Chains, Metallica and Allgoloch as well. Our favourite albums are totally aligned 😂❤
cool video! here are some of my favorites: heavy/power metal: Black Sabbath - self titled, paranoid, master of reality, vol4. Judas priest - sad wings of destiny, painkiller, Iron Maiden - self titled, power slave, piece of mind, brave new world, Manowar - the triumph of steel, kings of metal doom metal: My Dying Bride - turn loose the swans, the light at the end of the world, Ashes You Leave - the passage back to life, desperate existence, the inheritance of sin and shame, Lake of Tears - a crimson cosmos thrash metal: Metallica - kill 'em all, ride the lightning, master of puppets, …and justice for all, Slayer - show no mercy, seasons in the abyss, Megadeth - rust in peace, The Haunted - self titled, Testament - the legacy, the gathering, Flotsam and Jetsam - no place for disgrace, Evil Army - self titled death metal: Nile - in their darkened shrines, Dying Fetus - destroy the opposition, Cryptopsy - none so vile, whisper supremacy, …and then you'll beg, once was not, Archspire - the lucid collective, relentless mutation, cephalic carnage - lucid interval, anomalies, mislead by certainty, At the Gates - slaughter of the soul, Lost Soul - scream of the mourning star, Vader - black to the blind, Suffocation - despise the sun, Arsis - we are the nightmare grindcore: napalm death - any, terrorizer - world downfall, Nasum - grind finale, the county medical examiners - Olidous Operettas, Exhumed - gore metal, Haemorrhage - grume other: Type O Negative - world coming down, Fear Factory - demanufacture, Fleshgod Apocalypse - agony, labyrinth, Therion - theli my favorite album of all time: Kataklysm - Temple of Knowledge
Interesting stuff here in your list, Michael. Have you listened to the Trinity compilation and As the Flower Withers by MDB? Perfect blend of melodic death-doom and death metal IMO. Also, see the albums I mentioned in my reply: dISEMBOWELEMENT (only album, one of my two favorites), Dance of December Souls by Katatonia (the other favorite) Emyprium’s “Songs of Moors…” and the Bathory covers comp., “In Conspiracy with Satan.” World Coming Down is where Type O have a full-on doom metal sound in “Everything Dies;” pretty good for a brief moment. Like MDB/Anathema/PL. The brutal DM scene is where I personally began to feel overwhelming repulsion toward extreme metal, then came various movements this century that had zero appeal. lastly: the Lake of Tears no one should miss has to be Greater Art, right? I will listen to the one you recommended though.
Opeth, Metallica, Type O, and Death some great stuff. I got to see opeth, metallica, and type O live and they were amazing. I also really like Red Fang, dark tranquillity, morbid Angel, skeletonwitch, the sword, baroness, cynic. Well and much more.
These lists are subjective and personal preferences, but I'll die on a hill defending my #1. 1. dISEMBOWELMENT- Transcendence into the Peripheral 2. Bvrzvm- Filosofem 3. TypeO- -October Rust 4. Emperor- In the Nightside Eclipse 5. Skepticism- Stormcrowfleet 6. Tiamat- Wildhoney 7. Napalm Death- Scum 8. Thergothon- Stream from the Heavens 9. Moonspell- Wolfheart 10. Death- Individual Thought Patterns.
I’ve a couple (well, maybe more than a couple) of years more than you guys, so forcely my fava have more roots in late 80s than yours (classic metal, old school thrash), but, damn, we have exactly the same tastes! That’s why I love the channel!
Definitely some cross sections with my most influential. Especially October Rust, Dirt, Blackwater Park and Justice. I'll throw in Darkest Hour's So Sedated So Secure (which, I know, At The Gates, but i didn't discover them till after Darkest Hour), Countdown to Extinction, Great Southern Trendkill, Arise, Isis - Oceanic and Jane Doe.
@@forgemastermetal Panopticon is my favorite Isis record but Oceanic is the one that I heard first and it just blew my damn mind. Seminal album for me.
mine would have to be...heartwork by carcass...mutter by Rammstein..portrait of an American family by marilyn manson...White pony by deftones and obsolete by fear factory...that's the albums I grew up with and got me into metal
@@forgemastermetal traitors was my favorite record until this one came out and it blew my mind! Fun fact, I live in Baltimore but I’ve only seen them live once!
Appreciate your picks, especially Blackwater Park, but being a little older than you guys (and a Brit) I'd have to include foundational albums like Black Sabbath (Sabbath Bloody Sabbath), Judas Priest (Sad Wings of Destiny), Motorhead (Overkill) or Iron Maiden (Live After Death) in my list. My personal Metallica pick would have to be Ride The Lightning, also hard for me to leave out Anthrax (Among the Living) and Queensryche (Operation Mindcrime). Don't get me wrong, I like plenty of modern metal too so maybe Mastodon (Crack the Skye) and Porcupine Tree (Deadwing) to round out my ten. That said, I could think about it and come up with a different 10 tomorrow!
It's been really cool seeing how the generational differences cause such a different perspective shift in picks! There's another comment on here with all OLD SCHOOL albums - way before our time. Mad respect!! Appreciate you sharing your views.
Great list! Many of these albums would be on my list. Love your channel, just discovered you guys a couple weeks ago and I’ll continue to follow you through the gates of hell
Symbolic is dope, I love all Death albums except for Sound (too proggy, vocals are shrill), and Thought Patterns I don’t go back to as much, still good. Bloody Kisses is my fav Type O (mostly nostalgia and that album cover)
I still listen to the original Cruelty and the Beast sometimes, i think both versions have their ups and downs, so its always nice to go back and forth between them
This is an excellent list, all bangers. A few of my favorites: Helmet- Meantime Immolation- Close to a World Below Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power Anthrax - Among the Living Paradise Lost- The Plague within Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance Carcass - Necroticism
I know no one asked, but here's my list, in no particular order, and it's more than 10 albums: Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence Brutality - Screams of Anguish Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation Sepultura - Arise Opeth - Ghost Reveries Obituary - Back From the Dead Pantera - Far Beyond Driven Atheist - Piece of Time Dodecahedron - Dodecahedron Mayhem - Chimera Inter Arma - Sulphur English Mithras - On Strange Loops Misery Index - Heirs to Thievery Nasum - Helvete Cryptopsy - None So Vile Angra - Temple of Shadows
Meshuggah- Nothing, Carcass-Heartwork, Emperor- Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk. I totally agree with Opeth, AIC, Type O and Death. I'd replace Justice with Ride the Lightning
Yeah The Type O COF and Metallica records you guys picked would totally be on my list as a musician too. I'd have to have Iron Maidens "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" Mayhem's "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" Nightwishes " Live At Wacken" and non metal Switchblade Symphony "Serpentine Gallery"( a very cool gothic rock band from the 90's) kinda all over the place, as I like alot of blues and surf rock. And I play in a local black metal band (so the surf rock does fit lol)
Type O Negative is my favorite Gothic Metal band period 🙌🏼😎🤘🏼🎸 I love ❤Peter Steele and I have all of their albums and October Rust I still have on cassette along with World Coming Down! I love me some Misery Index too! All of these albums are superb! It’s been years since I’ve listened to Agalloch though!
Evergrey - Solitude Dominance Tragedy Children Of Bodom - Follow The Reaper Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia Dark Tranquility - Damage Done Mudavayne - L.D. 50 Ulver - Shadows of the Sun Porcupine Tree - In Absentia Iced Earth - Horror Show Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy
Funny, I never "GOT" The Mantle until after I got into Death In June (one of the main influences behind Agalloch's style). After hearing songs like "The Accidental Protegé" and "Luther's Army", I went back to The Mantle and heard a ton of DIJ's influence mixed with black metal all over the album.
I was curious about what the list would be, although i wouldn't agree with any of these, except maybe Type O. They're indeed great, but i'm not sure if i'd put them in such a list. To Mega Therion Under The Sign Of The Black Mark Hear Nothing, See Nothing Welcome To Hell Onward To Golgotha Dehumanizer Goetia Don't Break The Oath/Abigail/Melissa Too Late To Pray These are some of the first that i would put if i had to make a list
@@forgemastermetal Not really! I think that i am somewhere around your age(i'm 33). I meant nothing offensive with my comment. Just my views on the matter :)
@@forgemastermetal No! I am from Bulgaria :) These are my top 10 albums that i would put in the "to die for". There's also a lot of modern metal that i like but it was just a top 10 list. Otherwise i would have added more.
Hey guys I recently discovered a band and record that is clearly drawing from the same well as Type O Negative, but listen to the whole thing it is actually great! Orphans of Dusk - Spleen, they are from Australia, you'll love it.
Some good albums there. First one that came to mind that would have surprised me had either of you included it: Empyrium’s “Of Moors and Misty Fields.” Dead Again comes close to October Rust, right? Katatonia “Dance…,” In Conspiracy with Satan Bathory covers compilation and dISEMBOWELMENT would be at the top of my metal albums list. You’re definitely not metal enough here hehe. j/k
@@forgemastermetal Definitely that Anathema album is criminally underrated. My favorite all time albums are: Anathema - The Silent Enigma, My Dying Bride - The Angel & The Dark River, Moonspell - Wolfheart, Septic Flesh - Communion, Rivers Of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name, Khonsu - The Xun Protectorate, Emperor - The Discipline of Fire & Demise and Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses. Hell of a list guys, your content is always a pleasure to watch!
Well its so difficult to say only the 10 best metal records of all time among all the Metal, but its for sure that the great Chuck Schuldiner and Michael Akerfelt can not be missing.. Maybe the best 50 albums of all time would be a nice subject for you. But then maybe one band maybe will have more than one album in that list. Not an easy job..
Guys would you ever make a list of Asian bands/ albums to listen to ? I dont agree with your list here and most of the stuff you recomend are not my cup of tea but some are and i love to hear new and interesting music anyway . Let me us know if you have some Asian gems / METAL FOREVER !!!!!
The mantle is cool, but I never understood the ones calling it a masterpiece, genre-defining moment. I mean did you guys never listen to early Ulver? Black metal/folk influenced….it’s very similar. Agollach basically just took that blueprint and made it more shoegazy with a worse vocal performance.
@@forgemastermetal interesting. Yeah I mean obviously personal preference plays a major rolls in what albums influence your taste and trajectory. So it’s fair to say you like the the mantle better but I just wouldn’t say it was like a new idea, it’s been done before.
It's that fusion of post rock and neo folk that make it much more unique and novel than Kveddsanger (sp??) It also has a VERY pacific northwest sound in its production. I'm sure you've heard these takes before lol

Yes!!!
Type O is definitely one of the most unique bands, you can try to sound like them, but you can never capture every little unique factor that makes Type 0 - Type 0.
Totally agree
Glad to see Cradle of Filth on here 🖤🖤

For Agalloch, I have the scenario where I first heard them on Ashes Against the Grain and that album represented a complete shift in my musical perspective. I then got into The Mantle which production wise is superior but I take them both as a yin yang pair (even though the band doesn’t love Ashes). Hybrid Theory is freaking genius and gets WAY too much crap from metalheads
Fantastic additions, Forgemate!!
Kind of funny, I have " Seasons in the Abyss" playing in the background right now. Definately a tops metal album ever.

Wow I love this list. You have great taste friend!
Type O, Alice, and Opeth are my three favorite bands of all time - any genre. Awesome to see them ALL get love here! And as far as, "Is it metal?" Alice themselves called themselves metal way back in the day. That's good enough for me. :D
Couldn't agree more! Thanks for tuning in.
As usual, Brandon's picks are spot-on and Ben's are a little "unconventional" lol. But that's why I love your channel - your individual tastes are so unique and eclectic it really makes for an interesting and diverse discussion and I always discover something new... in this case, Ben's pick of Misery Index led me to seek out that album and jam it for the first time
Some big ones for me:
-Emperor "anthems..."
-Rammstein "mutter"
-Fear Factory "obsolete"
-Burzum "hvis lytet tar oss"
-Dimmu Borgir "puritanical euphoric misanthropia"
-Extol "undeceived"
-Soul Embraced "immune"
-In Flames "colony"
-Agalloch "ashes..."
-Nile "black seeds of vengeance"
-Pissing Razors "fields of disbelief"
Hell yeah man - that’s a solid “favorites” list. Cool to see Obsolete as your FF pick. Love that record.
Great albums. And lists are kinda fun.
If I think my top 10 of all time, it'll be damn hard to choose, but..... in no particular order
SepticFlesh - Mystic Places Of Dawn
Gorefest - False
Grave - Soulless
October Tide - A Thin Shell
Anathema - Serenades
Abominable Putridity - The Anomalies Of Artificial Origin
Crowbar - Odd Fellows Rest
Entombed - Clandestine
Samael - Ceremony Of Opposites
My Dying Bride - The Angel And The Dark River
We’ve got similar tastes my friend. 💚
I got to see Cradle of Filth live at the Beaumont Club in KC waaaay back in 2003 (Killswitch Engage opened for them)… they were legit great. Very fun. Dani is also like 3 ft tall, but a legendary performer… neither band half-assed that smaller show at all.
They’re awesome live. 2003 was a great year for metal.
Great video ❤ I have two questions.
1. What bands are you guys in or have played with.
2. Can you do a room tour of that room your in. It looks pretty cool 🙂
Cheers from Sweden🤘
Thank you.
Thanks for tuning in!! Love your additions, too.
Those Anathema, Cradle of Filth and Type O Negative albums are also in my top ten. Amazing taste. I’m subscribing!!😂
Welcome in, Forgemate!
By the way, love the reference to Rapture’s ‘Songs for the Withering’. Great album that you don’t hear people talk about.
Good list
My list is :

Death - Symbolic
Metallica - Kill ´Em All
Satan - Court In the Act
Dark Angel - Time Does Not Heal
Megadeth - Rust In Peace

To pick just a Top 10 is seriously limiting, but I'll give it a shot:
- The Fall of Ideals by All That Remains
- There Is A Hell... by Bring Me The Horizon
- New Bermuda by Deafheaven
- From Death To Destiny by Asking Alexandria
- The Poison by Bullet For My Valentine
- Master of Puppets by Metallica
- The End of Heartache by Killswitch Engage
- Bilateral by Leprous
- Crisis by Alexisonfire (not metal, but an extremely local band for me)
- III by Billy Talent (also not metal, but too much nostalgia for me not to ignore)
Wow dude what a solid lineup of records. Love your list.
I'm so happy to hear some AIC love. "Dirt" (imo) is their best album and I still listen to it often.
Yes!!!
Great list! Here's mine:
10. Edge of Sanity - Spectral Sorrows
9. Terrorizer - World Downfall

Hell yeah, killer lineup here
Astounded by the fact that 8 of those records are very easily among my own ten favourite as well (well, maybe not quite but they have all held a special place in my heart at one time or another). And that means, well, I just have to check out the two I have never heard (Nechochwen and Misery Index). Thanks for the rec!
Would love to hear what you think! Cheers friend!
Oh man, thinking about a Top 10 is rough. Here’s what comes to mind:
- Judas Priest - Stained Class
- Isis - Panopticon
- Agalloch - The Mantle
- Tribulation - The Formulas Of Death
- Paradise Lost - The Plague Within
- Pharaoh - The Longest Night
- Insomnium - Above The Weeping World
- Immortal - At The Heart Of Winter
- Enslaved - Axoima Ethica Odini
- Yob - Clearing The Path To Ascend
What a killer top 10. That Enslaved pick is unexpected but great!
Brilliant list. I appreciate that you stay true to your musical spirit. Dirt and October Rust were constantly spinning in my teens.
Thank you for tuning in!
Only 2 things come to mind here, the woods of ypres EP before their first album... my god it showed so much potential!! And secondly Penumbra - Seclusion, no clue why i love this the way i do but it just clicks all metal boxes for me.
Woods of Ypres is one of our favorites!!
Before I watch I’ll share my top ten. It’s ever changing but this is it as of today. Also, one album per band:
10. Agalloch - The Mantle
9. The Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal
8. Between the Buried and Me - Colors
7. Wormwitch - Heaven That Dwells Within
6. Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle
5. Gallowbraid - Ashen Eidolon
4. Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name
3. Pain of Salvation - The Passing Light of Day
2. Mastodon - Crack the Skye
1. Opeth - Blackwater Park
That’s a killer top 10. Love that Canadian Brood record
@nathanhill5417
Colors by BTBAM is their magnum opus in my opinion and i forgot to put the album on my list 😅
Beautiful, comprehensive list you have there guys! Hearing Agalloch Tunes, i feel you sould give Germanys Empyrium - 'Songs of Moors and Misty Fields' from 1997 a thorough listen!
Wow, I haven't thought of that album in A LONG TIME, but I am very familiar with it!! Thanks for the throw back.
these would be the top 10 albums that got me into metal,
1- Rage - Trapped (first ever metal album I ever listened)
2- Iron Maiden - self titled
3 - Kreator - Endless Pain
4 - Opeth - Morningrise
5- Cradle of Filth - Principles of evil made flesh
6- Annihilator - Alice in Hell
7- Metallica - And justice for all
8 - Overkill - The Years of decay
9- Amorphis - Tales from the thousand lakes
10 - Samael - Ceremony of Opposites
11- Haggard - Awaking the centuries ( had to add them )
Thanks so much for your list! Some great picks on there.
Wow, man! That's a great story. Where was "The Wall"?? I have never heard of that store!
The Mantle realy helped me when i was a teenager. Great record, on my top 10 as well for sure.
Thanks for sharing!!
Hard to pick 10 but here we go.
Agalloch - The Mantle
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Death - Leprosy
Megadeth - So Far, So Good, So What (I know it's not recognised as their best but it's the first album from them I heard and I listened to it a lot and still enjoy it)
Avenged Sevenfold - The Stage
Black Sabbath - Sabotage
Entombed - Wolverine Blues
Faith No More - Angel Dust (arguably not metal but close enough)
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Have to give an HM to Ozzy - Bark At The Moon, the first metal album along with Motley Crue's first 2 albums I had heard and loved.
Man, it was hard for us to just pick FIVE each!! Love your picks - especially Entombed and Faith No More. GREAT albums!!
Awesome additions, Forgemate!
Fear Factory - Demanufacture
October Tide - A Thin Shell
A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms
Amiensus - Ascension
In Flames - Whoracle/Colony
Beastwars - Blood Becomes Fire
Swallow The Sun - When Shadow Is Forced Into The Light
Ministry - Animositisomina
and, of course, Type O - October Rust ;)
Nice pick on the October Tide record! Love that album.
So glad to see the Anathema appreciation, since they are one of the most underrated bands
Amazing band.
agalloch being my favorite band the mantle is only my third favorite 😅 marrow of the spirit and ashes against the grain are essentially perfection for me. the mantle isn't far behind though
I think i like Ashes against the grain more as well, it's more dark and atmospheric.
Banger after banger.. great list guys
Thanks for tuning in!!
Heart of Akamon is nothing short of a masterpiece. Lost on the Trail of the Setting Sun especially is a perfect song.
Yes!!!
If you are a diehard fan of the mighty Agalloch, you should listen the chilean band ,Uaral, specially their álbuns: "Sounds of pain" and "Lamentos a poema muerto". Handkerchieves included.
Thanks for the great suggestion!
You boys definitely belong to another generation. Were I to list the ten albums that most shook my spine upon first listening, and then also subsequently (even today), I doubt that I would get very far beyond the 1983 mark...
LIST EM OFF!
Nechochwen was a pleasant surprise, such an amazing band from my home state.
That album just floored me.
Amorphis - tales from the thousand lakes
Himinbjorg - Wyrd
Manilla road - Atlantis Rising or Voyager
Helheim - Landawarijar or about 4 other favorites from this band
Einherjer - Norron or Blot...or Odin owns ye all
Megadeth - so far, so good..
Arkona - Slovo
Kampfar - Heimgang
Holy Moses - the new machine of Liechtenstein
Nuclear Assault, Brutality, Immolation, Cannibal Corpse, Skyforger, Death, Carcass, Neurosis, Primordial, Crisis, Gaahls Wyrd, Sacrifice, Sepultura, Bolt Thrower, Clutch, Judas Priest, Falkenbach, Enslaved, Gojira....just pick one. A top 10 is difficult. Dirt is one of my all time favorites. So is A silent enigma. Cool video y'all. Cheers 🍻
We had to pick 5 each lmao it was horrible to do that.
@@forgemastermetal that would be beyond difficult! I could 5 of each genre...maybe. Only 5 huh?
Amorphis- tales from the thousand lakes
Himinbjorg - wyrd
Helheim - journeys and expiriences of death
Manilla road Atlantis Rising
Einherjer- Norron
Final answer. Cheers ☕
Wow guys did you hack my play list... I'm gobsmacked. Type O (as expected), but to throw in Anathema, Cradle, Alice in Chains, Metallica and Allgoloch as well. Our favourite albums are totally aligned 😂❤
Hahahahah that's awesome!! Check out some of the other comments - a lot of variety on here depending on when and where people grew up.
cool video!
here are some of my favorites:
heavy/power metal: Black Sabbath - self titled, paranoid, master of reality, vol4. Judas priest - sad wings of destiny, painkiller, Iron Maiden - self titled, power slave, piece of mind, brave new world, Manowar - the triumph of steel, kings of metal
doom metal: My Dying Bride - turn loose the swans, the light at the end of the world, Ashes You Leave - the passage back to life, desperate existence, the inheritance of sin and shame, Lake of Tears - a crimson cosmos
thrash metal: Metallica - kill 'em all, ride the lightning, master of puppets, …and justice for all, Slayer - show no mercy, seasons in the abyss, Megadeth - rust in peace, The Haunted - self titled, Testament - the legacy, the gathering, Flotsam and Jetsam - no place for disgrace, Evil Army - self titled
death metal: Nile - in their darkened shrines, Dying Fetus - destroy the opposition, Cryptopsy - none so vile, whisper supremacy, …and then you'll beg, once was not, Archspire - the lucid collective, relentless mutation, cephalic carnage - lucid interval, anomalies, mislead by certainty, At the Gates - slaughter of the soul, Lost Soul - scream of the mourning star, Vader - black to the blind, Suffocation - despise the sun, Arsis - we are the nightmare

other: Type O Negative - world coming down, Fear Factory - demanufacture, Fleshgod Apocalypse - agony, labyrinth, Therion - theli
my favorite album of all time: Kataklysm - Temple of Knowledge
Wow! I love your list my friend! Cool to see Turn Loose the Swans on here.
Interesting stuff here in your list, Michael.
Have you listened to the Trinity compilation and As the Flower Withers by MDB? Perfect blend of melodic death-doom and death metal IMO. Also, see the albums I mentioned in my reply: dISEMBOWELEMENT (only album, one of my two favorites), Dance of December Souls by Katatonia (the other favorite) Emyprium’s “Songs of Moors…” and the Bathory covers comp., “In Conspiracy with Satan.”
World Coming Down is where Type O have a full-on doom metal sound in “Everything Dies;” pretty good for a brief moment.
@@moribnd trinity and as the flower withers are great.
Opeth, Metallica, Type O, and Death some great stuff. I got to see opeth, metallica, and type O live and they were amazing. I also really like Red Fang, dark tranquillity, morbid Angel, skeletonwitch, the sword, baroness, cynic. Well and much more.
Very respectable list. Some half of it could go on my top 10 - while I am heavily prog/tech inclined ever since Cynic - Focus was released.
That's an amazing album!
These lists are subjective and personal preferences, but I'll die on a hill defending my #1.
1. dISEMBOWELMENT- Transcendence into the Peripheral
2. Bvrzvm- Filosofem
3. TypeO- -October Rust
4. Emperor- In the Nightside Eclipse
5. Skepticism- Stormcrowfleet
6. Tiamat- Wildhoney
7. Napalm Death- Scum
8. Thergothon- Stream from the Heavens
9. Moonspell- Wolfheart
10. Death- Individual Thought Patterns.
You've got some fantastic records on here, mate! Love those Tiamat and Disembowelment albums.
Great video 🤘
Glad you enjoyed it
I’ve a couple (well, maybe more than a couple) of years more than you guys, so forcely my fava have more roots in late 80s than yours (classic metal, old school thrash), but, damn, we have exactly the same tastes! That’s why I love the channel!
We appreciate your fantastic comment, Forgemate!!
Ooooo love that Isis in on your list! Great band
Fantastic!! Mutter is incredible. Great list.
@@forgemastermetal thanks guys keep up the awesome work
Love that Misery Index mention man! Right the fuck on! Amazing record! Insane!
That album is absolutely bonkers.
Thanks bud! We’re so glad you found us 💚
I'm old enough to have gotten dirt on tape. I used to listen to that album too much, such a classic bluesy doom album, RIP Layne
It's incredible. He's gone too soon.
Blackwater Park is definitely up there for me.
My favorite CoF album though, is Damnation And A Day.
Great pick for CoF!
Symbolic is dope, I love all Death albums except for Sound (too proggy, vocals are shrill), and Thought Patterns I don’t go back to as much, still good. Bloody Kisses is my fav Type O (mostly nostalgia and that album cover)
Thanks, Lando! Have you checked out our Death discography ranking video? That one is fun!
I still listen to the original Cruelty and the Beast sometimes, i think both versions have their ups and downs, so its always nice to go back and forth between them
I can see that
This is an excellent list, all bangers. A few of my favorites:
Helmet- Meantime
Immolation- Close to a World Below
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Anthrax - Among the Living
Paradise Lost- The Plague within
Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance
Carcass - Necroticism
Yoooo that Helmet record! YES.
I know no one asked, but here's my list, in no particular order, and it's more than 10 albums:
Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence
Brutality - Screams of Anguish
Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation
Sepultura - Arise
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Obituary - Back From the Dead
Pantera - Far Beyond Driven
Atheist - Piece of Time
Dodecahedron - Dodecahedron
Mayhem - Chimera
Inter Arma - Sulphur English
Mithras - On Strange Loops
Misery Index - Heirs to Thievery
Nasum - Helvete
Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Angra - Temple of Shadows
What a killer and diverse lineup of great metal records my friend!
@@forgemastermetal
You, too, friends. You, too 🤘
Jnco's! Represent
Hell yeah bring em back
Meshuggah- Nothing, Carcass-Heartwork, Emperor- Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk. I totally agree with Opeth, AIC, Type O and Death. I'd replace Justice with Ride the Lightning
Nice!
Fantastic additions! Thanks for tuning in to the video.
Thanks so much for sharing your great connection with Type O, Jeremy. That's so cool you still have the cassette! Treasure that.
Evergrey - Solitude Dominance Tragedy
Children Of Bodom - Follow The Reaper
Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin
Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia
Dark Tranquility - Damage Done
Mudavayne - L.D. 50
Ulver - Shadows of the Sun
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
Iced Earth - Horror Show
Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy
Nice picks!!! Love that Evergrey record.
Almnost impossible goal, there is too much masterpiece albums.
However thanks for suggestions, now i'm trying with Nechochwen
We hope you dig it.
Yes, great album :)@@forgemastermetal
Funny, I never "GOT" The Mantle until after I got into Death In June (one of the main influences behind Agalloch's style). After hearing songs like "The Accidental Protegé" and "Luther's Army", I went back to The Mantle and heard a ton of DIJ's influence mixed with black metal all over the album.
That’s a great point. Is the mantle your favorite?
@@forgemastermetal It's the only Agalloch album I have heard in full.
Oh, man. Hope you check out the others, too.
Agree wholeheartedly about Dirt. Masterpiece.
Phenomenal 💚
I was curious about what the list would be, although i wouldn't agree with any of these, except maybe Type O. They're indeed great, but i'm not sure if i'd put them in such a list.
To Mega Therion
Under The Sign Of The Black Mark
Hear Nothing, See Nothing
Welcome To Hell
Onward To Golgotha
Dehumanizer
Goetia
Don't Break The Oath/Abigail/Melissa
Too Late To Pray
These are some of the first that i would put if i had to make a list
Thanks for sharing yours! You obviously come from a different time period than us.
@@forgemastermetal Not really! I think that i am somewhere around your age(i'm 33). I meant nothing offensive with my comment. Just my views on the matter :)
Wow, that is surprising that you're so young and your picks are so old school. Are you from the UK?
@@forgemastermetal No! I am from Bulgaria :) These are my top 10 albums that i would put in the "to die for". There's also a lot of modern metal that i like but it was just a top 10 list. Otherwise i would have added more.
Nice!! Thanks for the conversation.
Glad to see Type O Negative and Metallica stay as one of your favorites. (From your original list).
They deserve to stay!
Starting out with opeth, instant like
Thanks buddahhh!!
Hey guys I recently discovered a band and record that is clearly drawing from the same well as Type O Negative, but listen to the whole thing it is actually great! Orphans of Dusk - Spleen, they are from Australia, you'll love it.
Thanks for the fantastic recommendation!!
Some good albums there. First one that came to mind that would have surprised me had either of you included it: Empyrium’s “Of Moors and Misty Fields.”
Dead Again comes close to October Rust, right?
Katatonia “Dance…,”
In Conspiracy with Satan Bathory covers compilation
and dISEMBOWELMENT would be at the top of my metal albums list.
You’re definitely not metal enough here hehe. j/k
Lmao I’m okay with not being “metal enough”
"October Rust"!! For life!
Hellll yeah, brother!
Yeah, I'm also happy they re-mistressed the album. That weird typewriter drum sound in the original...
Morbid angel - covenant
Obituary - cause of death
Sepultura - arise
Awesome!
Wow, Anathema's The Silent Enigma!
Yep!!! What are yours??
@@forgemastermetal Definitely that Anathema album is criminally underrated. My favorite all time albums are: Anathema - The Silent Enigma, My Dying Bride - The Angel & The Dark River, Moonspell - Wolfheart, Septic Flesh - Communion, Rivers Of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name, Khonsu - The Xun Protectorate, Emperor - The Discipline of Fire & Demise and Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses. Hell of a list guys, your content is always a pleasure to watch!
Awesome list, mate!! Thanks for sharing.
For me a personal favorite of mine that had a big impact on me and was the first album that came to mind is oceanic by isis 🖤
We LOVE that album.
Ghost Reveries I got over BWP.
I got Ghost Reveries over a great many tho.
Great album!
Rebel Extravaganza
Agalloch !!

Seeing that list, well. That explains A LOT.😂

Blackwater Park is just poor man’s Still Life. Haha. It’s still rad though.
Na.
We could definitely do a Top 50. Maybe we'll tackle that in a future series!
Type O Negative shocker great album,,, Type O Black Sabbath cover.
All Type O rules.
We share 2. C.O.F. and Justice

BUST EM OUT!!
We would happily do a deep dive on that! I’m curious myself. Cheers :)
Check out paledusk from Japan
The mantle is cool, but I never understood the ones calling it a masterpiece, genre-defining moment. I mean did you guys never listen to early Ulver? Black metal/folk influenced….it’s very similar. Agollach basically just took that blueprint and made it more shoegazy with a worse vocal performance.
I didn’t connect with that Ulver record nearly as much.
“Silent Enigma” is cool, but literally every other Anathema album blows it out of the water. This is known.
That is an opinion.
@@forgemastermetal indeed. By definition, that’s all any of this can ever be.
Cruelty🤘👍
One of the best.
