Great performance! I really like the old songs from Job For a Cowboy. The newer, more technical albums are great too, but I wouldn’t mind if they just released a full album of straightforward blasting again.
In all seriousness, what are you weakest at when it comes to drumming? Your strengths (those which are my absolute weaknesses) are obvious and amazing. Also, you're so relaxed. I can see that it helps playing fast, but is there a song or songs that really pushes you to your limit and maybe even forces you to break a sweat or at this point in your top-level skills is it just a matter of playing something super fast for a long duration? As in nothing can stress your body (or mind) out otherwise? I ask these questions because I need to know that you're actually human, heh. Peace. You're awesome.
I'm pretty terrible at learning syncopated chuggy patterns like breakdowns and stuff. I can learn and play them, it typically just takes me longer to memorize them. Also I literally don't play jazz or latin so if you put me in a situation where I have to play any of that it's game over for me. As far as songs that push me to my limit, that changes a lot. I haven't been playing as much lately so I've actually lost a lot of my speed and stamina, so songs that I could play no problem a few years ago I can barely get through now, if even at all. And to be completely honest nowadays I don't want to be REQUIRED to play an hours worth of crazy exhausting death metal. It's not fun for me to do anymore, and they don't call it Debt Metal for nothing. I still like playing it here and there, like when I make those dumb little clips or if there's one or two songs in a set that really push me, or if I do a single song video like this. But I don't want to be required to play an entire set worth of that stuff anymore
@@MikeCaputo Yeah, even though I love stuff like Car Bomb it can be tough to commit some of the rhythms to memory (and play, of course). I'll take a more thorough look through your videos to try to get an idea of some of the exhausting songs you're referring to (along with reminding me how to practice double strokes on my feet). So far this one, an All That Remains live performance of "Six", and your cover of "Fatal Tragedy" are all I've heard in their entirety (along with your fake drummer video which is how I found out about you). Stuff like Job for a Cowboy is what I'd dread playing, so I couldn't imagine playing anything like this for an hour let along two minutes, heh. More power to you. Reminds me that I, too (I don't know, maybe not, heh), can practice and get better. I've been severely lacking motivation for years due to overwhelming crippling depression and existential despair, and recently learning about the existence of Clone Hero (an open source version of Guitar Hero) has me sidetracked something fierce. I can not play guitar nor do I even want to, heh. It's the closest I get to playing the drums anymore as it tickles my rhythm/pattern button nicely. Thanks for the response. I look forward to any videos you produce in the future.
The main blasts in the song with the kick on the downbeat and the snare on the upbeat are traditional blast beats (example 0:08). Bomb blasts are the short ones with the snare on the downbeat and the double time double bass underneath it (example 1:26). The short one immediately before the bomb blast where the kick and snare are in unison is a hammer blast
Hey Mike, what's the latency for your kit through that laptop? I find that even sub 3ms latency can start to feel sluggish at higher speeds. Curious if you have any tips about minimizing latency.
I don't know exactly how much latency I have. All I know is I have my kit as the ASIO in my DAW and I slid the slider all the way down in the ASIO configuration so I have the least amount of latency
It's a Roland TD-27KV with some extra/upgraded pads. I'm using the Austin Archey VST from MixWave for the sound you're hearing, not the internal module samples
Woah!!!!! That drumming is just phenomenal man!! Love a good blast beat! You nailed it! Well done!! That kit is a beast aswell love the sound!! You've earned a sub and a like from me!! I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on my latest drum cover!! Cheers and Happy 2025!!
Awesome shit! Suneater never gets enough love. Danny walker kills it on that album. I play the song a global shift because drums kicks in hard instantly to non english speaking mexicans at work and say job for a cowboy is a mexican band. They are like si? Lol 😂 everybody always says i cant understand that shit. But us metalheads do.
Triplet blasts are hard enough as is, and the speed this song is at just hurts worse. You made it look easy brother🙌
Fucking wonderful job man glad to see you still doing the damn thing! Doubt you remember me but happy to see you killing it still!
That album is filled with bangers and it seems like it so underrated. You killed it as usual.
that Austin Archey VST sounds awesome. beautiful playing as usual also 🔥🔥
"decent take" lol yeah aka flawless cover, great playing and it's super faithful to the OG which I love
Dayum this is a tight cover, the double bass patterns in this song are so good and you nailed them.
One of the most brutal Job songs 🔥 killing it man 😎
So sick dude, love this entire album so much
Legendary song, I always thought the drumming on this was ahead of its time with all the sick embellishments and stuff
Clean as hell dude. Jon Rice is a monster on the kit.
Thanks! Elliott Sellers actually played on this album
@@MikeCaputo I had no idea, thanks for the correction. I'll have to check him out.

Sooo nice! whats kind of chinas are the one your are using ? thanks

hell yea

Ohh gotcha i see that better now that i rewatched, awesome 🎉@MikeCaputo
Holy shit
I think this officially debunks the myth that drummers need huge chins to play extreme metal.
I sold my chin to the devil at the crossroads so I could play better

I always that the cymbals are a little too far back in the mix.
Not a true cover your not windmill head banging during chorus lol
