I still have all those videos on my hard drive, I downloaded them from his old forum way before the UA-cam era when he was in the Sonor kit and Sabians
@ Many of the old Derek Roddy and George Kollias videos are also gone. I remember one video where Derek explains the polyrhythmic (or was it polymetric?) double hi-hat and double kick patterns he plays on Faceless One (from I, Monarch), but that video seems to be gone from YT.
One of the first drummers that really put metal on the map as a place where you could expand your horizons as a drummer. I've never been into the extreme metal side of things, but Derek Roddy has always been an absolute champ of the genre and instrument, and he definitely paved the way for many of the awesome drummers we see today. Good to see he's still going and also just not aging for some reason.
@the6ig6adwolf It's called marketing. You don't show just the product the whole time. People lose interest. Tension & release. Create some mystery. Besides, no drummer is listening to the cymbals when he's blistering the double bass.
I really enjoy how he'll be playing really fast, then do a "flam rest" in the middle. Kind of a Rick James vibe. And of course the intricate African thing on the low drums followed by a wash of cymbals very much like 50s music. Very natural.
Still one of the GOAT drummers from back in the day. I've seen this dude as a live drummer in Malevolent Creation, Hate Eternal, and Nile. He fucking killed it everytime.
One of the first things I ever used UA-cam for (back in 2005-2006) was to look at Derek Roddy videos.
😂 me too
That and jason bittner. Which I can't even find those videos anymore
Same here 😂😂😂😂

Loving the organic sounding bass drums.
You always play cool, catchy, and creative parts in addition to being a BPM powerhouse. King of all Kings lives in my car on CD.
Derek, you are THE MASTER!!!
The best. I, Monarch changed the game.
The TRUE Death metal drummer 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
This is where it all started !!!! Thank U Mr. Roddy !!!!

One of my favourite drummers of all time. Absolute legend

Still remember the first time I listened to 'King of all kings' and Derek's drumming blew my mind! Derek 'one take' Roddy!
3:20 that's a cool technique
... This isn't what 52 year old dudes are supposed to look like. Time start learning some Nile

Everything is highlights with Derek Roddy!
Meinl can you please make one of these with Gabe from I Prevail
4min of Derek Roddy and not a single shot of his feet. I think that's a criminal offense.
It's funny how soft spoken he is iRL. i always think he's Canadian cause hes got that lilting gentle speaking voice 😆
Who's idea was it to have Roddy come in and not set up a foot cam? 😮
This guys incredible.
cause it's about cymbals
Always loved Derek Roddy. He's a beast.
Derek Roddy is the reason why you have youtube drum vlogs. No double bass cam is an abomination. Do you not know who this man is?!
