Luca, my little master of painting puppets, I am just overwhelmed with your extreme capability to explain things clear and direct to the point, without bullshit in the middle. I would like to watch more videos like this master of alpaca.
As somebody who's only been painting for about 3-4 months, this was exactly what I needed. Nobody could explain to me clearly how to stop stark, hard lines between my highlights despite painting guides telling me to use the colours I was using, so thank you very much!
The wet blend technique is easy to understand but I struggle with it in practice. So perhaps the learning curve is the big trade off with this technique.
I was a little too afraid to try wet blending yet, since I don’t paint for that long now. However, I was trying to highlight a cloak by layering and I just couldn’t get to a point where I was satisfied with. After like 2 hours I was so mad I just slapped a new basecoat and tried a wet blend because it couldn’t get any worse. The result now is that it looks better than before. Should have tried that earlier
An old comment, I know, but I was in the EXACT same boat a few days ago, haha. I tried to layer/glaze a cloak, lost patience after 2 hours and I messed it up and it looked not as good as I wanted. I got really frustrated and actually thought about doing it again with wet blending. I simply left it as I have enough other minis to paint. Still funny to hear that you have been at the exact same point. Makes me feel a bit better and you encouraged me to try wet blending the next time I do a cloak! Thanks for your comment
I have just returned to the hobby after 23 year hiatus, I have literally just heard about wet blending and your little guide has given me the confidence to actually attempt to paint some primaris black templars tomorow in this fasion! I shall let you know how I actually get on 👍
Awsome video i have been trying wetblending for my blue custodes and i fint this video helps out . Can i ask what the name of thwt nice dark blue paint you use is called? im looking for a nice blue for my custodes and i think that would look good.
Your blends look amazing. Here's a noob question for you: How do lighter colors (all the way to pure white) go with wet blending? In my (limited) experience, white dries super quick, and if I stir it around too much it goes chalky very quickly. Do you use any kind of dry-time extender or glaze medium to help?
I don't use any medium, only water. When it comes to white, not all are equal, some brands do them better than others. Try using Vallejo Model Color Ivory or Kimera White next time, they'll go on much better. Also, yes, I wetblend all kinds of colors, from the darkest ones to the brightest.
how would this work on larger surfaces that requires the blend to extend across a much larger area? i want to try and wet blend the melee weapon on the overlord from the indoitus box and im not sure how to go about it
this is awesome, finally someone who is wetblending live while talking so i can understand this shit :D The only thing i dont get is where to puts these highlights on my models. like where to put light and shadow
Hi Luca. Great video and awesome painting. I'm new to painting and I'm actually facing many difficulties.. Yes I'm a pretty noob One.. I'd ask you, according to your experience, if It is possible to achieve a decent wet blending without the brush-licking technique, since I'm really not a fan of it. I also have a second question for you: What do you think about Vallejo dry retarder, is It useful to mix It with some part of water and then use It to build a layer on the surface to be blended? Thank you in advance and, again, YOU ROCK!!
Hey there. Thank you for the kind words! To answer you questions: Yes, you can avoid licking the brush. Have a damp paper towel folded a couple of times in a corner of the wet palette and use it instead of licking the brush. Retarder can work, for sure. I never really use medium except very rarely, but if you feel like you want to try it and you get good results I'd say go for it :)
thank you for the good explanation, but can you please hold the mini still when you show off some results while painting? its hard for the eyes to watch you work when you move the mini around so much
I tried this (I'm using Vallejo paints) and first of all, it doesn't cover properly, I see opaque spots when trying to make a layer like yours, but I think if I put more paint on my brush, that the layer will be too thick and inconsistent, so when I try it, it doesn't blend well at all and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Cool. I understand wetblending now! A word of advice on the video; you move the models around too much when you're showing them off. I had to slow the video down a lot just to get a good look at them.

This is by far the most clear, concise explanation of Wet-blending I've ever seen. Well done mate.

Best 11 minutes tutorial ever! Shot and understandable

Your explanation and demonstration is the best for understanding wet blending. Thank you very much for this video!
This is genius! Before this video I had no clue what wet blending was, I can't wait to use this on a miniature.
cant believe ive only just found your channel. Great work :)
Thank u this is actually the best explanation so far of wet blending I've heard and i actually get what u mean thank u.
Finally I found a video that shows wet blending that I can actually follow! I'm definitely going to try this on my Ultramarines this weekend.
This was most inspiring mini painting technique video I have ever seen, maaan you have harisma! Thanks a lot!

Great tutorial! you deserve more subs :)
Awesome explanation !
Fantastic
How do you quickly clean the brush when switching to the blending, while not damaging the brush tip? Very nice video
I don't always clean the brush when wet blending, I sometimes just load the brush without cleaning it.
Awesome video, thank you.

Im gonna give this a try with my emperor's children. I think a pink gradient might look interesting!
OMG A new video. wooohoooo. Thanks
Thanks for the explanation! But I wonder if you are actually eating the paint? You seem to lick the brush quite a lot.
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far down to see someone finally ask that question! 😄
Awesome dude, I'm gonna give this a go. Tried wet blending before and it sucked. Might have to pester you on Twitch when it sucks for me again ;-)
love it!
Thank you! Thank you! Can you make NMM tutorial please ?
I have have many tutorials on NMM on my Patreon, including one on how to paint it for beginners :)

@@MiniaturesDen thanks for all the info. I'm really enjoying your videos. You break down some techniques in a very understandable way.
can you tell me how much you thin your paints for this?
until recently i was scared of wet blending. now that i feel i understand it better i love doing it

Ty ty ty ty. Just installed twitch to watch and learn. Lol
Next you should do a video showing how to combine wet blending, glazing & feathering techniques together. Thank you my alpaca!
Do you ever use a paint retarder when wet blending?
cool video! subbed
Are you licking the brush? I’m curious what’s going on there.
this is awesome, finally someone who is wetblending live while talking so i can understand this shit :D

Nice tutorial wet blending is my favourit technic too but i must more practice it :D guess from germany

I always have a problem with small areas and spherical areas (like the knee pads of the space marine). I guess I am doing it wrong.
It would be great if you could keep the miniature still, so one could actually see the result😊 But great explanation, thanks.
Why start with the allied color and not not just blend the two to begin with?
thank you for the good explanation, but can you please hold the mini still when you show off some results while painting? its hard for the eyes to watch you work when you move the mini around so much
I have to ask because I'm a bit confused... are you wet-blending with acrylics? Is it even possible to do so?
yes, I'm doing it with acrylics
@@MiniaturesDen that's so awesome! Learned something today

Try thinning the paint less, it should cover more. You don't have to have too much paint on the brush, it's all about the consistency.

I tried wet blending and I used waaaaay too much paint it seems! But it was a big area so.... nah, no excuses, I'll do better next time!
Huh, I never realised that blending was this easy
Your thumbnail is funny
Another great youtuber disappeared???. :(
No, I'm still here! I do most of my videos for Patreon nowadays and work almost every day on Twitch :)
i cant bring myself to put the brush in my mouth lol
Is my man continuously licking a paint-covered brush?
Outstanding video - will try this on a sword and will report back.
Creamy Blends
Come again, I CAN`T HEAR YOU? ;P
Other than the sound, this is a really good video. Thanks :D
All that brush licking can't be good for your health
Dude.. do not eat the paint pls.
