- Scotland has just been given its 8th city and quite a cracker - Dunfermline
Dunfermline sits in Fife, Scotland and in May 2022, Dunfermline became Scotland's eighth city. It was awarded city status as part of HM The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The 'auld grey toun' of Dunfermline is at the heart of Scotland's history and the royal and monastic past dominates the city. There are a wide number of historical venues such as the royal palace, a 12th century abbey
Dunfermline Abbey is the final resting place of 11 Scottish kings and queens, including Robert The Bruce, and, although neighboring Dunfermline Palace has succumbed to the ravages of time, its ruins reveal just how imposing this royal residence must have been.
One name crops up again and again in Dunfermline - Andrew Carnegie. The famous philanthropist gifted The Carnegie Library to his hometown, along with Carnegie Hall and beautiful PIttencreiff Park with its formal gardens and resident peacocks.
Dunfermline is definitely a CITY to visit if you want to steep yourself in history

Hi Don. Honestly you need to get across and spend the day.. This video was a quick tour of a couple of hours but Dunfermline holds a huge amount fantastic buildings and stories.. If I could sum it up Its like Stirling on steroids lol I have done other not so good videos in the past of the place but honestly get yourself across there for the day and soak it all in. @Colin Connolly Wow lucky..you see it all everyday. Cracking views from the high street. I was so angry when I found out what happened to the peacocks in the park. Shocking. This was at the start of May a week or 2 just before the announcement so thought it was a bit topical and decided to put the video out to show it off. I'm so pleased it is a city and def a place where you need to head back to. Bruce, Queen Margaret, Charles 1st and Andrew Carnegie.. The list goes on but Dunfermline knows exactly that history and culture are at its heart.. Much like Stirling. Get yourselves on a history tour there in the new city. Stunning wee place.
