Good one Eddy. I'm from Dunfermline and it was nice to see 'the toon' being appreciated. The colours from your camera were looking good today too.
So great to see my old home town on video. 👍😊
I remember walking around the old abbey and the church, so much history in the church grounds, so much Scottish royal history. It is awesome to think we have so much history in Dunfermline and yet it has taken till now for this great city to actually be 'awarded' the title of city.
As Eddie mentioned at the end there is so much history in Dunfermline not least, as he mentioned, the birth place of Andrew Carnegie which is literally less than a two minute walk from the Abbey and as mentioned in the video St. Margaret's cave is underneath the car park near to the Glen. The cave is, in my view, an awesome eye opening experience.
According to Google, the cave is permanently closed. I hope someone in the local council or museum and galleries side of things opens it up again. It maybe didn't see lots of visitors, but as you say it was a very special place, and part of the historical package that Dunfermline had to offer.
@@EdExploresScotland That is a real shame. There again it was over 20 years when I was there.
Hi Mr Burns Thank you SO much for making this video it made me cry 😢 , Thank goodness we have people like you who are preserving Scottish History
I am a Welsh girl who Loves Scotland 🏴 . Thank you again can’t wait to see the rest of your videos take care xxx💋
Thanks Margaret. It's hard to go wrong when wandering the streets of Dunfermline. It truly is a magical place packed with history.
Brilliant video of Scotland's newest city Ed, really well presented. I have visited Dunfermline many times over my lifetime and God willing will return again one day soon, its a lovely new city with much to offer, both ancient and modern. Thank you so much.
hi Ed great video as usual love watching them lots sheer delight thanks take care
Your film is a miracle of editing. Dunfermline High Street is, in the words of 'the Buildings of Scotland' a developer's shanty town. A more apt description I can't imagine. Hopefully city status will lead to some more sensitive and much needed urban renewal, since the planning authorities have been doing their damnedest to ruin it for the last 70 years.
Same as every other town
When’s someone in government going to stop this destruction?
Eddy congratulations on your latest peice of work which is your best to date in my opinion..... I personally think that you should be given the Freedom of the city by the local Council...Your musical soundtrack is also top quality and adds real character to the production... Looking forward to the next one. . Bravo Eddy... Respect 🏴
Many thanks. I like the Freedom of the City idea; I'm sure a big key would be involved.
This one was really well put together and the commentary was spot on. Seems Dunfermline was happy to be on video, the lighting in every shot was really good. I think of all the towns in Scotland, that applied for city status Dunfermline was the only real candidate. Even though it is now a city, I hope it remains unchanged. Once again, great job pitting this together.
Many thanks. Had to edit out a superb trumpet player busking in the High Street for copyright reasons, but I think I'll put him in a tiny separate video.
I must say, Ed, you excelled yourself with this video of Dunfermline. For me, it was the best of your videos, so far. You used the weather, blue skies & sun, to great advantage. I like the interesting music which you use too. It's years since i have been to Dunfermline. In your video it was very good to see that new city looking so good, helped by your great photography.
Thanks Robert. Dunfermline's always worth a visit. Absolutely packed with history and things to see.
Thank you for showing me the birthplace of my father-in-law. It meant a lot to me to see it since I might not get to Scotland. I look forward to watching more of your beautiful videos.🙏🇺🇸👩🏼🦳
Many thanks. Dunfermline's a lovely place, and given that it's on a bit of a slope, I imagine most of the occupants are very fit.
Several of my ancestors were born and raised in Dunfermline in the 1700 and 1800s. Barry was the prominent name. From there they went to Ireland, England and America. Nice country, wish I could visit, nice video, thank you.
Just added Dunfermline to where to visit in Scotland list.
Another great video. Love the history and old architecture of these places. My wife goes into Dunfermline every couple of months with her friend, they just wander around doing what women do when shops are involved. Will have her watch this one, I'm sure it will send her off the beaten path to visit more of the 'real' Dunfermline. Many thanks again.
Almost everyone is old. It’s fascinating.
I've very fond memories of Dunfermline x
Thank you for the brilliant video Ed. Having lived in Scotlands ancient capital all my life, its nice to see someone appreciate how important Dunfermline is/was in the grand scheme of Scotlands history.
Lovely vid. Thanks for putting it together. I learned things as a recent resident of the city!
Another beautiful documentary video. New city added in my next must visit city list
Thanks Ed for such a great informative videos.
I'm planning to move to Dunfermline in the next year. Hopefully the houses are available and affordable. Love the history, and beautiful church.
Did you move to Dunfermline? I'm planning to move there myself, would love to hear if it worked out for you.
My home city. It certainly has it flaws but there is a lot to be proud of in it as well. Thanks very much for putting it over in such a positive light.
Thanks Eddy, great video, learnt a lot. I will for sure be visiting it very soon, love the look of the place.
Back around 1971, I went to Dunfermline via Cuross regularly on my newly acquired BSA Starfire, but such was my narrow minded view of the world then, I only went to the bike shop🤣. I've matured a little now and am very interested to visit this new city to admire the beauty and history therein.
Dunfermline's always worth a visit. Hard to imagine so much history packed into such a small city.
As a local. Enjoyed watching this Eddie. Keep up the good work 👌 new follower.
Hi Eddie glad blind harry may have been mistaken he has the wallace at 7 feet tall!! The suit of armour would have been bespoke and very expensive!! My wife grandparents had a farm near culross congrats to the city a few quiz teams will be caught out naming scottish cities for a while. Regards Robert lees
Recently got a job in dunfermline. How is it like to live and work in the city for someone who is first time leaving home country to live in the UK?
I've never lived in Dunfermline. It's much like any town in Scotland, and I'm sure you'll enjoy living there or nearby.
I don't know why some people get so excited about their town being given city status. Nothing will change, the history is still there, unemployment is still there and so on. Local government will probably get a few more pounds from the government, but attracting business to come too Dunfermline because of the City status will not happen. Just look at Dundee, its been an unemployment "Black Hole" for 30 years. On the plus side, this is a "Beautifully presented video". I have been to Dunfermline and need to come back for a visit.
Dunno bro plenty new things spreading, many orbiting towns with wealth. Aberdour, dalgety bay etc.
Has been neglected a bit after Rosyth dockyard wound down but they’ve done a great job of Abbots house and the Carnegie library.
Always be townies to me.
What is the music?
It's just something I composed for the video. I've got Cubase Elements software on the computer.
@@EdExploresScotland Thank you for the reply. The music from 12:25 is beautiful. Well done , incredible work.
What about Andrew Carnegie!?
What indeed. I think I gave him a brief mention towards the end of the video. Certainly you could do a whole video just on Andrew.
A small town.
What is the meaning of Dunfermline?
The very end of the video - Malcolm Canmore's Tower information panel tells how Dunfermline got its name.
Try living here
I sometimes think that we all get so caught up in dealing with the difficulties we all face that we forget the beauty and history that is all around us. Take care Evelyn.
Dunfermline, which means 'big house on the hill by the burn' is old Scots language has been in existence for over 1200 years. It does not need English royalty and/or government to call it a city, especially when the Queen of England was never crowned Queen of Scotland !
You must be the only person to go to Dunfermline high street and not go to Primark.
You mad man.
One thing I will say about Dunfermline's High Street is that it was bustling, much more so than many towns I've seen.
@@EdExploresScotland I wouldn't quite agree bud, and I stay here 😅 Dunfermline is no where near as busy as it was years ago. The high street is really quiet now. There's times where the Kingsgate is so quiet you can see from one side to the other without people being in the way.. 😅
Should have been Paisley as it had been Scotlands largest town (not city) for hundreds of years
I'm lucky I walk 4 miles everyday around Dunfermline, I love living here it's lovely 😍there's two LAYLINES go through the ABBEY front the North of Scotland through to England and another across Scotland 💙 🤍 💙they both cross at the Alter very Spiritual allinment 💙🤍💙
I didn't realise that about the laylines. Very interesting. Many thanks.
Great video, great music. In this current climate we need Wallace and Bruce back.....
We certainly do.
They were Norman's we need to go back to true scottish lineage house of dunkeld robert de brus grandfather defended carlisle castle against the brus!
