Nirvana - In Utero: The Riffs
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 тра 2024
- Here is a guitar-only play through of the main riffs from Nirvana's 1993 album, 'In Utero'. I didn't focus too much on trying to get the exact sounds, and used only a Yamaha Pacifica and a basic distortion sound from a Boss Katana amp throughout. One of the interesting things about In Utero, which I really like, is how much looser it is than Nevermind in terms of tempo and some of the playing, which gives it more freedom.

frances farmer is easily the most underrated song
I agree it’s my favourite one
ITS MY FAVEEE
One of their best IMO, and so much fun to plat
Mexican seafood better
There’s a great mini doc here on UA-cam about what it’s about to. Makes the song that much better
I love the chords used in serve the servants. It's also a really fun one to sing.
Yep, I love the 'jangleyness' of the chords.. catchy song.. underrated IMO
Yeah, its a little bluesy too
@@euusowindows The dominant 7th chords in the main riff really add to that feeling.
my all time favorite guitar riff. and for it to be the first and insanely fun track on in utero is so great
Serve the servants is one of the most underrated songs in their catalogue
Lol, I love the 'underrated' comments 😂
There’s no underrated Nirvana songs
@@guywholovesmusic4611 d-7
@@aj.filoboy ok you got me there, but serve the servants is definitely not underrated
@@aj.filoboy d-7 is a cover
Scentless Apprentice’s drumming and guitar riffs show how well Kurt and Dave can write together.
Dave wrote both the drum beat and riff. So it’s Dave’s writing
@@saulgoodman6431 oh wow
@@saulgoodman6431 oh damn I didn’t know that, I can definitely hear the hardcore punk influence there
Some of the greatest riffs ever are on this album. Very nice playing and great tone
Thank you!
If you heard some of these riffs for the first time you'd think Nirvana was a metal band.
Seriously. How is the "Milk It" riff not metal?
I think Bleach was as sludge metal as it gets!
@@jaschul Doesn't really sound metal to me. More like punk in a way.
Great riffs for sure but pretty far from metal isnt it?
@@Barbro247 Scentless Apprentice also sounds like it could be a SOAD riff (at least, the way this guy makes it sound).
Very ape is criminally underrated
For real
Inspired by argentinian band los brujos - kanishka
@@DylanAranda damn! good to know
At first is so weird and challenging listening to in Utero but when you keep listening to it you can feel it and tell that is as good as their previous albums
It’s better
For me it’s their best record, it has the heaviness and punk stuff, but also the more melodic stuff, it’s such a great album
@@guywholovesmusic4611 I agree.
In utero is their strongest album by bar. Bleach is a close second.
In Utero is probably the best grunge album ever imo, if not atleast it's my favorite.
Also... THAT TONE HOLY SHIT
@@billcelery6769 "Grunge" isn't a defined genre, it's just a catch-all term used for a lot of Seattle bands from the late 80s - early 90s. Notice how Soundgarden and Alice in Chains are both considered grunge but don't sound very alike. Nirvana was a grunge band and a punk band, these things aren't mutually exclusive.
@@r.m.solympic6857 I'm sorry they scrapped you "Old reliable". You were a mighty ship. Your sisters are still here but they're not...doing too good.
@@billcelery6769 ok bud
@@r.m.solympic6857 alice in chains more metal in my oppinion
@@PsychedelicMakai i agree, i've always thought of aic as more of a metal band.
This video is just more evidence on how much you can do with a basic (in a good way) Kurt/Nirvana tone. I don't mean that in a bad way at all. I just mean that I've seen countless videos of people trying to nail Kurt's tone and you've done it with stock sounds from a Katana. I feel like any basic distorted sound will get you there and everything else is all feel and playing loose. Another great video bro!
instead of going out of your way to find kurts exact gear just get whats cheap and works (like a certain someone). my rig is a modded mustang, an old peavy amp i got for free, a samsamp clone and chorus from behringer. both pedals are like $30 and my tone is closer than 90% of the people who have what kurt used
@@SoggyBacco totally agree. I think its cringey when people try to get the exact gear anyway it's better to be inspired by a sound and make your own from that starting point then to just blatantly copy it
Honestly just buy a twin reverb and you’re set. That thing held a lot of the tone in it.
Tones are on right point perfect!!
glad you did "gallons of rubbing alcohol," one of my favorite nirvana songs despite just being a jam :D how are you liking the pacifica? been noticing it in all your vids as of late and have been thinking about picking one up for a while
It's good. I haven't had it long but I'm liking it. It stays in tune really well and feels nice to play
Mine too! I love that track
Gallons... The best Nirvana song. I love it.
Mustangs are cool but tuning stability is cooler. Pacificas are awesome. I have both. the mustang is great if i don't touch the trem, but it's just. too. tempting. arghhhh
One of the things that always gets me is how great the song writing and the guitar work on In Utero are. Kurt was great as far back as the demos for Bleach, but he was still getting better, and the band was really building into something beyond incredible. Those live performances with Pat in the band are just top notch.
And "You Know You're Right" really leaves us with a big "what if?"
Jesus this sounds exactly like the original guitar tracks. Would love to hear some of these as full complete tracks. we'll done !
The tone is perfect! For a moment I thought I was listening to the CD.
I was going to say the same
How'd you get that tone? It sounds bloody fantastic
I just used a basic 'dirty' clean tone for the quiet bits and distortion for the loud parts.
@Cheddar Shady probably should've checked that first lol
"Typical Furry" 🤮
@@megamuerte6934 explain how
@@bloxsy_ are you using any type of distortion box?
Excellent video. Heart Shaped Box is just perfect. Thanks for the video dude.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it.
it’s crazy how accurate you were with this
The riff on Radio Friendly Unit Shifter is sick af
prob my favorite song of utero or frances farmer
I’ve been waiting for this day to come like no other, I’m a diehard Nirvana fan and i’m just really glad for this. Best Nirvana album to me, the playing and tone is near perfect! Great video!
Thanks!
Heart-Shaped Box is still one of the most beautiful riffs ever written. And Serve the Servants really shows how much Kurt was influenced by The Beatles.
The tone and the playing are so hecking precisely, nice video! best album ever made, I would love one of Green Day's Dookie
So glad you included Gallons Of Rubbing Alcohol Flow Through The Strip (super long title lol), it's a song nobody really talks about or plays ever.
Yeah I love that one. I wish they had done more semi-improvised stuff like that.
I was looking for this one since you did the other albums glad you Released it 🥰
One of my faves. Great work as always.
I was just listening to In Utero the other day thinking how well it holds up, it still sound vital and fresh (to my admittedly 90's guitar loving ears anyway) It's almost 29 years old, go back another 29 years and the Beatles were still in there early album pre-Rubber Soul stage!
Amazing job! One of my favourite Nirvana albums
Dude, the tone is AMAZING! Heart Shaped Box 🎯
I’m a visual learner and you’ve taught me so many Riffs I watch your videos and it just inspires me to instantly pick up my guitar and learn
Thanks mate. I appreciate you watching and glad you got something out of it!
my favourite album of theirs and your tone is just insane!
Loved that, as most of the comments below say, you tone was bang on again! 👌
Amazing album, All Apologies for me, such a lovely simple melody but clever and was a drop D song I learned very early on playing guitar. Made me realise dropping down isn’t always to make a song sound heavier 👍
Enjoyed that and looking forward to the next one 🎸🤘
Nice video. Great as always. I listen and practice this awesome album whenever I have time.
Your Nirvana vids are the best. Great playing, thanks for uploading
Thank you!
love how you sometimes use gear on the cheaper side and still get killer tones man! absolutely inspiring
i love the way you got all his unique styles and accidents in there !
I love the rough sound of the album, you matched that here 😎
your riff videos have inspired me to learn so many songs man i gotta thank you for that
That's cool man. Glad I inspired you in some way.
Radio friendly Unit shifrer, milk it, Francis farmer and sentless appertence are my favourite songs
For years this album was my greatest influence, thank you
The tone also the playing is spot on.Nice work.
Ty for making this! While watching this I learned how to play a couple by watching you do it! Also this is amazing, it sounds just like Kurt playing :).
You're welcome and thanks for watching!
Milk it is lowkey the best song of their entire collection!
Awesome as usual. Been with the channel since last June and haven’t stop checking in since.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
BOSS KATANA PATCH PLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
so sick! great job as always
I couldn't help but sing along! Great video! 😊💜
This is such a great video. You really nailed it
i get happy every time you upload and i love nirvana thanks for doing what you do
also like the new guitar !
Thanks for watching!
absolutely nailed the tone man 👌👌
beautiful to watch and hear!
Thanks mate!
That tone!! Great work🙌🏼
Thanks!
your heart-shaped box riff was literally incredible dude
just chilling and listening to this made my day
This is great stuff, I love it!
My favourite video on your channel. Love this guitar 🎸
Thank you! Yeah it's very reliable and stays in tune.
Hell yeah, dude! Nice skills, nice guitar, nice album!
Beautiful guitar and playing. Congrats
I remember just listening and playing along to this album all the time in middle school when In Utero came out.
Your tone is amazing
I have been waiting for you to do this 😌😇
My favorite Nirvana album. Their skills were on top on it.
Amazing tone man. Cool 🤘
Awesome! This is well done as always.
Thanks mate
Sounds so good man
This is some amazing content boy. 😀
One word...PERFECTION 🤘
Can’t wait for in utero 30th anniversary so I can make my own video and art piece for it 😌
Also bloxsy I think you singlehandedly got me into guitar, yeah maybe nirvana and smashing pumpkins had a lot to do with it, but it was your older videos that just fascinated me and drove me to play guitar. I just wanted to thank you for that ^^
Thats sounds interesting man, good luck with it! And glad you enjoyed the channel and thanks for the support!
@@bloxsy_ no problem dude, I look forward to the future of your channel!
damn the tone and the playing is exactly like i heard in the album, spot on! thnks for the memories and do keep up doing this bro!
Goddamit i love all apologies on second part with distortion and that legendary riff. everytime i have goosebumps when i hear this. Also i love All songs on In Utero, theyre so unique and sound fantastic
Man fxckin nailed Kurt's style
You nailed the tone man
Beautiful 🖤
so good, dude!
great job,,that guitar sound is spot on!
Thanks!
This is incredible.
Awesome job🤘
All your tones and the crisp sound of the recording makes me think that this is an original instrumental! Amazing! As a hardcore Nirvana fan, I love this!!!
Did you have to tune in the middle of songs to play different ones at all?
Great guitar sound. You wouldn't have gotten to far with an exact tone anyways - Serve the Servants was recorded on a tube amp that was on it's last leg giving it it's unique tonality.
Awesome job
Beautiful
Most underrated channel
So good bro!
Dude heart shaped box sounds spot on, nice job
Such a heeeeeavy album and not just guitar tones but lyrics too
🥺❤️ My favorite band of all times
Perfect tone, wow
that tone is incredible
Noice! And some of those tones are really capturing the vibe for a random setting, Steve Albini will be very cross
That Heartshaped box tone is spot on
Thank you for the memories . Really good .seems really Kurt s guitar 👏 hey ,is there here in your channel somewhere serve the servants solo ? One of the best ever
Thanks! I don't think there is. I've never really done solos because I could never be bothered coming up with the backing tracks. It is a really cool solo though.
You must love that new guitar you have haha.
Very pretty indeed. Love your channel man.
Yeah it's the go-to guitar now haha
@@bloxsy_ i wonder where i can get one! So pretty tho.
Bloxsy you should make top 10 best riffs from "Charly Garcia"
he's an amazing artist. I recommend you "cerca de la revolución"
Your Cobain's chords are on spot!
Fricking sweet!🌹
You may not have been trying to nail the exact sounds but seems like you did! All Apologies tone in particular was perfect.
Awesome Cover
Amazing that your tone is from a Katana! I use a Marshall DSL but I have a Katana as well. It's a great grunge amp!
It's crazy how Kurt is often ridiculed for being a terrible guitarist yet he consistently wrote awesome memorable riffs. Songwriting is so much more important and harder than shredding.
Great playing!!
Thank you!
Can you do Nirvana Nevermind next, and then Green Day’s dookie and the offspring’s smash?
I was thinking of doing a Nirvana B-sides and rare songs list, but will probably do a Nevermind one also at some point. And Green Day and Offspring will hopefully do a Top 10 riffs vid some time.
@@bloxsy_ yes to the rarities and B sides, especially 'big long now' and MV, please.
Oh! Sounds so good. Nice video.
Thanks man.
