  • What is the Bichon Frise's Typical Reaction to Small Animals?
The Bichon Frise is a small, fluffy dog breed that is known for its friendly and affectionate nature
They are often described as social and gentle, making them ideal companions for many households
However, when it comes to their typical reaction to small animals, there are a few factors to consider
First and foremost, it is important to note that every dog is an individual, and their reactions can vary
However, there are certain traits and instincts that are common among the Bichon Frise breed
Understanding these characteristics can help us get a general idea of how they might behave around small animals
One of the key qualities of Bichon Frises is their friendly nature
They are generally very sociable dogs and tend to get along well with both humans and other animals
This friendly disposition often extends to small animals as well
Bichon Frises are usually curious about their surroundings and may exhibit a keen interest in small animals, such as rabbits, squirrels, or birds
They might approach them with curiosity or want to investigate further
Another factor to consider is the Bichon Frise's prey drive
Like many other breeds, Bichon Frises have an inherent instinct to hunt and chase small creatures
This prey drive can be traced back to their origins as working dogs, where they were used to hunt rats in the past
It is important to note that the intensity of this prey drive can vary from dog to dog
Some Bichon Frises may have a strong prey drive and may actively chase small animals, while others may have a more subdued instinct

You are wrong in your description of their "prey drive". They are NOT working dogs at all! They were not used to "hunt rats"! They were used for entertainment by sailors, circus and royalty. They are companion dogs. You need to get your facts right! I have a 3 year old bichon and she loves everyone and all animals of all sizes. She is curious but does not have a harmful bone in her body. Everything is classed as "friends she has not met yet".
