    For those who are not familiar: Onyx is the base printing material for The Markforged Mark II, while PLA is a "tough" printing material used in most common 3D printers.

    Also, onyx filament is a Carbon Fiber infused Nylon, of course it will be stronger than PLA.

      Yes of course it will and it is.

    Tests don't get much more rigorous then the large Channel Lock Pliers. Legit. I have compressed dual piston calipers with them.

    • @WarpedLab
      @WarpedLab  Рік тому +4

      Seriously, I thought for sure that was going to break it, people are thinking I'm sponsored but not the case, I genuinely didn't rehearse any of this, just turned on the camera and grabbed the pliers first time. Some things are what they are.. I'm glad somebody knows how serious those channel locks are.

    Onyx is 10x the cost of PLA and the printer is 100x!

      so with that math. the parts are 1,000x stronger.

      Make sense cause that part was 1000x times stronger

    • @WarpedLab

      That actually comes out pretty accurate, the part is literally a 1000x times stronger, I should definitely put it to the ultimate test in the future.

    Chopped carbon fiber PLA vs continuous strand carbon fiber nylon... ofcourse PLA has no chance, try PEEK against it for an interesting and fair match.

    1st part looks like 20% infill, 2nd part look like 100% infill.
    Did you use the same printing parameter for both?
    Because i printed a new hose connector for my dust collection vacuum in PLA, not even carbon reinforced. But i used 100% infill, slightly hotter temperature (205) and printed slowly on my Creality CR10S pro V2. I can no joke lift the vacuum full of drywall dust by the part and it never broke. The part has been in use for 2 years now.
    3d printing is very twitchy, it's all about parameters, printer is about 20% of the result i would say.

    • @WarpedLab
      @WarpedLab  Рік тому +4

      Yes these two were the exact same. File, but what you say is true, I have also done parts with PLA at 100% infill And a lot of times they do the trick, the issue I was having on the Mr Beast project is that these parts I would print were okay until they would get out in the sun, that's why I went looking for different printing technologies for my future parts. I know I didn't cover that here and I may do it in a future video if people want to see it, because the nice thing is once I have all the different printers set up I can do any sort of comparisons I like. Let me know what you think.

    I dont use PLA for anything other than mockups, why would anyone do that :), prusa PCCF is my goto for engine bay mechanic stuff or other parts that needs to hold loads or heat, its excellent in many ways, i chose it over nylon, its reasonably priced and doesn't need any crazy printer.

  • @ShawnEngland
    @ShawnEngland Рік тому +2

    You cant compare two printers with two different filaments. Its not even fair. PLA is brittle. That is just the nature of PLA.

    The sound alone shows the immense weakness of the first PLA material! That was incredibly bad! So is the second part made with basically the same material but a different printer?

    • @WarpedLab
      @WarpedLab  Рік тому +1

      No so the first part is made of this carbon reinforced PLA, which is essentially stronger than just PLA but very similar. The second part is made out of a material called Onyx, it's the standard base material for use on Markforged machines. I can't even tell you how insanely strong that was haha

    Looks like you cheating. The first part has only 5% infill, therefore it crashes like a paper, whereas second one has 100% and it's strength is respctively higher.
    If you want your print products to be realy durable use composites based on PET or PA (NYLON)
