I saw you mentioned using a sump in a 5 gallon bucket to run the irrigation system, what pump would you recommend? Does the 5 gallon bucket with sump pump have to be placed higher than the grow buckets in that case? I have no hose spigot, but I do have an outlet. Want to use grow buddies in 5 gallon buckets to grow tomatoes, peppers and zucchinis. 😊
I came here to ask this exact question! I guess if the bottom of the soil is always wet there would be no need for the roots to "search" beyond that. If for some reason the supply of water stopped and the soil dried out, then yes I would think that reservoir would get clogged with roots.

Instead of heating the tubing with a lighter soak it in boiling hot water for ten minutes to soften it and make much easier to push over the fittings.
You can set this up as a gravity fed to right?
Is there any concern of roots growing into the valve a interrupting the operation of the float valve?
Not really, the roots air prune because there is at least an inch air gap before the valve. That is a great question!
