How to Paint a Plastic Bucket
Переглядів 266 тис.7 років тому
It's easy to make dress up buckets to turn them into decorative plant containers. Painting plastic just takes the proper prep in order to get good results. Take the time to paint them right and you will have a much more durable painted finish. Be sure to only use good quality paint. Almost any spray paint will work including metalic paint, textured paint and chalkboard paint. You can even mix y...
Instead of heating the tubing with a lighter soak it in boiling hot water for ten minutes to soften it and make much easier to push over the fittings.
Ever try pvc primer on the hdpe? Im curious how well itd work.
Love the grobuckets. My garden is going great.
This video should come with the GroBucket inserts! I thought you had to constantly keep the stick up...now I know why I had issues lol! Thanks for the info!
I just bought three these and thanks for the extra information.
I have three of those blue Lowes buckets that have tomatoes growing in them - on my deck. The blue is pretty, but the bucket is a Lowes advertisement in giant white letters. I think that's ugly, even though I shop at Lowes. That's why I'm painting it.
I also discovered they only last about a year before they get brittle and break apart. I don’t think Lowe’s puts UV inhibitors in their buckets. The sun eats them up if you don’t paint them.
Just want to confirm that these can be used in larger containers. It seems so from your video. Thanks.
We have a product called GroBuddy on our Amazon store that uses designed to use in large containers, grow bags, and raised beds. The GroBucket is just for buckets. I will put a video out on that soon.
Can I just not drill the hole? Only asking because I plan on using a tent and I'm lazy
As long as you’re very careful and don’t over water. Stop watering when you get right under the 4th leaf on the stick. Let it get down below one leaf before you water again. Outdoors it is essential you have a drain to allow excess water to drain off from rain.
Anyone know if this is safe to paint and then grow veggies in?
Yes, you're painting the outside of the bucket, not the inside.
@@lizlee6290 very true thanks!
Does this hole have to be in the container if we have a water level indicator?
Hi.I have a plastic cover on my laptop and got the ide to paint it in another color and decorate it after wards. How do you think I should go about it ? 🙏🏻🙂
Landlord came over today and told me the red buckets have to go
Drool
You can set this up as a gravity fed to right?
I saw you mentioned using a sump in a 5 gallon bucket to run the irrigation system, what pump would you recommend? Does the 5 gallon bucket with sump pump have to be placed higher than the grow buckets in that case? I have no hose spigot, but I do have an outlet. Want to use grow buddies in 5 gallon buckets to grow tomatoes, peppers and zucchinis. 😊
Can you use a grow buddy insert in a 3.5 gallon bucket? Or only 5 gallon buckets?
GroBuddy is stand alone, no bucket needed. Our GroFern product actually comes with a 3.5 gallon bucket. The problem is the pipe and float stick will be sticking up. It will work but doesn’t look attractive.
I have been using your 5 gal bucket system for several years with great success, however, I wish you made a larger version to use in food grade 55 gal barrels, it's a pain doing the DIY perforated drain pipe version
Funny you say that, one of my inspirations for inventing the GroBucket was my Step-Father making those very containers. I never made one because it seemed like such a pain, but I do have an equivalent design, called the GroBuddy. You can put one GroBuddy and place it in a 45-55 gallon grow bad and you basically have the same thing without all the hassle. You can go a step further and do what I do and hook up our irrigation kit to it and you never have to water again. Works great! You don’t need a huge reservoir. Hope this helps. I really need to get around to making a video on the GroBuddy, it is a great product!
We are ready to support your enterprise as long as they are good quality, hi tech, and most importantly AFFORDABLE to the general mass. Please convince us.
Thanks so much.
Thx😊
Are you still in business? All the Facebook groups seem to be gone. I love this Gro Bucket system and love getting new information! Also, I ordered the grow fern and one of the stick floats was broken in shipping. How can I order just the stick float?
Yes, we are still here. Call our number 888-EZ2-GROW and we will take care of you.
thank you sir, the tutorial is very helpful to practice..god bless
Your bucket went from Lowes to Home Depot. 😂😂
Can I grow organically with GroBuckets?
I’m not sure how that classification works with containers but you can grow clean pesticides free food in them. Organic is not always what people think. I think it is simpler to look at the end goal and garden with that in mind. You have complete control of what you use on your plants. Hope this helps.
I cannot find any information about whether or not your products allow me to grow organic foods. Is your grow bucket compatible with organic gardening?
Will this earth not mix with the poured water when watering because the holes in this device are quite large?
Should have just purchased bucket from Home Depot.
What's on top of these containers?
hmm, first thank you for your vid. i'm trying to figure out why my granite spray paint that i painted onto a regular plastic hanging flower pot (like home depot) started peeling off from the pot while in the rain. i didn't scratch it first, so perhaps i should have? i did do 2 coats of primer before using the granite looking paint. i also granite sprayed the trim on my newly copper painted mail box... and the trim granite spray is coming off of that too.... ugh. i think i even did a clear coat over the granite spray. any further suggestions you might have for me? not sure what type of plastic a hanging flower pot is... nor the plastic of mailbox trim. both items are outdoors and in the rain and both are majorly peeling. what a bummer. appreciate any advice...
For painting anything, sand first, clean all dust off and then prime.
Can you use these Grobuckets for growing pot plants. And how would be the best watering techniques. 😊🍻
Check out Scotty and the Dude Grows show. Apparently our system is the ultimate system for that. I don’t personally have any experience. Sorry for the late reply.
What happened to these products? I go to the grotech website and none are listed, and the grobucket is sold out. Am I looking in the wrong place?
Hi! Tried to find your website...doesn't seem to be done. Or am I mistaken? In any case, Amazon does not give you actual "information", and, I find that a company's website usually gives the complete line of products available so I know what to look for on Amazon. If I wanted to shop on Amazon. Thanks! HL
It’s a busy time right now , we will have it updated soon. We had to redesign it to allow us to sell directly from our website.
Do you put some kind of reservoir at the bottom of the growbag that the grobuddy bottom section sits in to hold water?
That part must be a secret ? Hopefully someone will give us information
The Grow buddy for bags has a built-in insert that holds the water.
Sorry for the very late reply. GroBuddy comes with the reservoir. I’m going to get a video posted on that soon. You just bury it in the bad and keep it watered. I use one in a 45 gallons grow bad hooked up to our irrigation kit and I don’t water ever. The plants flourish in it.
I have not seen the grobags where can I get more info
We have them on Amazon but you can use the GroBuddy in any large grow bag or raised garden bed. We even use them in the ground with traditional row gardening. We will have a video out on that soon.
@@GroTechGardenProducts I have looked but I am unable find how to use GroBuddy in a bag I would love too see this
Will acrylic paint stick to a bucket without spraying it with primer or using sandpaper
Thanks for the tutorial, great information!
After how much time can i touch the spray painted plastic where it wont be toxic for my hands?
Soon as it dries it will be the same as literally any painted surface you've ever touched; handrails, benches, any painted object, etc.
NOBODY believe this guy, he’s stealing your money!!!! Trust me, I helped start this business!!!
I have over 10 grow buckets and my plants have all done great. In zone 9B I’ve grown tomatillos, abutilons, birds of paradise, carrots, spinach, and basil. Have used the reservoir and indicators with grow bags, too-depends on what I’m growing. Great products!
Thank you so much for your business and your kind words. We do our best to make the best American made products out there. Bird of Paradise, that’s interesting haven’t see one of those since I was a kid living in California.
ok then would you share how you grew in grow bag with the grow buddy set Thank you!
I started this season off with three of the inserts and so far I have no complaints. I have previously used DIY self watering containers and still have several going. I also have a couple of Earth boxes and have had great results with them. I actually set up all of my self watering buckets this year to be as similar as possible to the earth boxes and so far so good.
Is there any concern of roots growing into the valve a interrupting the operation of the float valve?
Not really, the roots air prune because there is at least an inch air gap before the valve. That is a great question!
I came here to ask this exact question! I guess if the bottom of the soil is always wet there would be no need for the roots to "search" beyond that. If for some reason the supply of water stopped and the soil dried out, then yes I would think that reservoir would get clogged with roots.
Is this available now?
Yes on Amazon let me put up a link. Thank for the reminder Jim!
Added link in description.
@@GroTechGardenProducts thanks!
Discount coupon would be nice. Never going to win a giveaway anytime soon.
We are always cognitive of price and looking to make things more affordable but we need volume. We will have bulk order opportunities on our website. Amazon and logistics are a lot of the cost. It’s harder than you think to bring the price down. . Everything is going up also. We try to make everything in the US but some things like the valves are not made here in the US
@@GroTechGardenProductsdon’t worry these are priced right .
Great product. Glad to support an all American cause. #teamgrobucket
Awesome. Like an AutoPot, but less complicated.
I used to come home every night to find crispy fried plants on my concrete balcony, but not anymore. gro buckets for life.
So the grow buddy goes inside
Which Fabric bag is to be used with the grow bucket. Thd 8 gallon simply goes in the bucket on top of the insert?
GroTech fabric bags are the correct height for the buckets
Only use the bag if you want to cover the bucket for looks. You don’t need a bag with the GroBucket, just a bucket. If you want to make a self watering grow bag you put the GroBuddy, our new product, in our 8 gallon grow bags.
We will have videos out shortly showing this.
@@GroTechGardenProducts thank you. Just received the 3 pack GrowBucket system and gotta say it’s so far so good. Ordered them Wednesday. Within an hour got a notification they were shipped. I’m probably gonna order a 10 pack with the floats soon as my funds allow it. And definitely gonna get the Growbuddy with the bags. That’s what I thought I ordered but either way these are just as awesome. I’d like the ones that go with the bags for air pruning cannabis. But I’ll use the Growbuckets I got today for tomatoes or peppers. Thank you again.
@@GroTechGardenProducts okay . That’s what I thought I ordered. But my mistake. I’ll make another purchase of thd Growbuddy and Bags soon as funds allow it. And use the Growbuckets for tomatoes and peppers. I been wanting a self watering system that still allows for air pruning cuz I’m disabled but again thank you and I’m pleased as punch with the growbuckets.
So I’ve been using these grobuckets for a bit, and I’ve gotten nutrient burn in a couple of my ladies. I use a mixture of coco and peat with perlite, so the girls do need nutrients, but these people are pretty closed mouthed on concentrations and all. They say “once a week” for heavy feeders, but give no details. Also my mixture is always wet on the top with these pots and now I’ve got girls wilting from over-watering and this ain’t my first rodeo. Can I get a refund? I’m going back to felt pots, this is a nice idea that just doesn’t work for me and cannabis.
Love the Made in America. Just received my package. Really nice can’t wait to mix my soil and get started. What I really like is the visual on the water level. I have 6 other self witching buckets and just being able to visually see the water level indicator is nice.
