I think it's silly that you said steroids don't work by on your they do work they make you stronger a lot stronger and after it didn't work why do people use them to get an advantage in sports if they didn't work they would have gone out of style
Sorry to break it to you but they’ve been normalised since the 60s the only difference is that now people don’t lie about eating vegetables and genetics. It’s steroids and hard work. Nothing else.
@@divineglitch9550 They haven't exactly been "normalized". Taking steroids is still seen by most as being abnormal and associated with drug cheats, etc.
Adam, this is fantastic. So many people on UA-cam take a middle-of-the-road approach - "I don't care if you use steroids, just don't lie about it". Few are as brave as you are to make something like this, to have a strong stance and be unapologetic. Thank you, Adam. These philosophical deep dives - whether metaphysical or moral - are always outstanding. I'm going to sign up for the Patreon.
It's less middle of the road and more just being honest. There are upsides to gear but they come at a steep price. If you ignore the upsides then people aren't going to listen to you explain the downsides.
I almost never follow strength and hypertrophy advice from users but I absolutely do follow their joint health advice knowing how much they trash ther joints lol
It doesn’t really follow though because steroid user’s muscles rapidly outpace the resilience of their other tissues. That is not a problem for natties.
@@jmass4207 They don't really, the more massive a body builder is, they earlier they die of heart disease and/or kidney issues, but men not using steroids die earlier than women from the same things. You could say the human heart doesn't really keep up with natural level of additional tissue that men carry around. A 300 pound steroid user drops dead at 30, but a 180 pound non user still dies at 78, earlier than women.
I rarely comment on videos. I’m a veteran doctor and have seen first hand the dangers of PEDs. I cannot emphasize enough the stupidity of using these drugs. The damage at a micro cellular level is extensive with PEDs use. Every complex cellular pathway is affected. All the body’s hormonal protective and feedback mechanisms are detrimentally impaired, I see blood slides from people using PEDs regularly. The cells look toxic and sick - very abnormal compared to a healthy cell. I care for many aged body builders who are paying a heavy price for their years of PEDs use. I’ve also seen many men die young from strokes (CVA), heart attacks (AMI), and various cancers. Also, the average person may not see these same guys are coming to me every month to refill their Viagra and Cialis prescriptions because of their erectile dysfunction. Further, society often glosses over all the incidents of domestic abuse where a PED user has beaten on a partner. I cannot see any logic in sensationalizing drugs with the potential to kill you. This video is informative and necessary. Thank you.
And thank you for sharing your experience! Fact is: the human body is an unfashionably complex interconnected machine. You can’t just hack up one hormone or neurotransmitter or whatever it is that you deem desirable and expect it not to have huge consequences throughout your body. Like you say: it affects everything! 🙏🏻
What do you think about short term steroid use to rebuild my lumbar back muscle in physical therapy? I did therapy last year but 3 months is all that insurance pays for, I need accelerated growth during those months so I can recover. I worked out at the gym 4 days a week too, but the rebuild of muscle is taking too long and causing me to be laid up with back pain from the bulging disk
@@funkysawmanwright5077 I’m sorry to hear about your prolapsed lumbosacral disc. This is a common presentation in modern society and you are absolutely right it takes time to recover. As always I would advise you to see a trusted local doctor and discuss the best way to deal with your case. I will give you my general advice. Our bodies are not made for rapid change. Physiological changes happen slowly to allow for appropriate adaptation of the numerous mechanisms governing our system. Whether it’s rehabilitation after an injury, weight loss, or strength gains, our bodies respond best to gradual, methodical, and incremental gains. I’m most circumstances, the TIME component will not change significantly beyond a certain amount of intervention. Anabolic steroids could help with rapidly increasing strength of your lower back. However that will not fix your prolapsed disc. A prolapsed disc also requires focused exercises for mobility and flexibility. The root cause has to be addressed, strength is usually only one aspect of recovery. Further, steroids are a “shotgun” approach. All your other muscles can potentially hypertrophy a bit (even if not training them) and may reduce your lower back mobility even further. Certainly short term steroid use will statistically be less risky vs long term use. However short term use is also not going to give you any sustained results as your muscles will atrophy very quickly after stopping your cycles. Also, there can be a “crash” after stopping them where you will feel horrible in every way - mental and physical fatigue, mood changes, reduced drive / sex drive and so on. In my opinion steroids will have little value for you. So, what can you do? First thing, prolonged sitting/standing/work relate repetitive lifting are going to be the enemy. Nothing will help with your back pain more than being more active in your life. Simple things such as walking, avoiding sitting for 8 hours at a desk job, taking stairs instead of an elevator, parking further away to walk, etc. - these small changes translate to significant interventions over time. Your spine loves moving, and hates being fixed in a single position for prolonged periods. Once again, this also depends on the severity of your issues. Second, weight loss is key if you are carrying some extra pounds. This can be difficult if your back pain is limiting you. Weight loss will reduce the strain on your lower back and can be achieved with healthy dieting if cardiovascular focused exercises are tough at the moment. Sitting with a certified dietician can help of you need guidance. Your doctor can offer many other options including pain relief medications (safe, non addictive), trigger point injections, lumbar epidural corticosteroid injections, working with a physiotherapist, and also referring you to a physiatrist. Surgery is usually a last resort and only indicated if the situation is severe with little chance of recovery, or if all these other therapies have proven ineffective. Sorry my friend for the long winded explanation but I’d like for you to have as much information as you can to make an educated decision about your health. Explore all these options before considering steroids as they may not be the saving grace you hope them to be. Good luck on your path to recovery.
I used PED's in my early twenties and ended up with multiple injuries that still nag me in my now early 30s. Don't use them bros. Unless you're a pro athlete or actor that has a million dollars on the line based on your performance, or you have a LEGITIMATE need for TRT, it's simply not worth it.
@@Themilkman95 It goes back to what he states in the video, your muscles heal quickly, but your ligaments don't and collagen production decreases overall. So pushing week after week upping the weight results in something eventually snapping because it hasn't had the time to adjust to the new weights and volume that the attached muscles are pushing. Also not to mention long term use has consequences for your heart and gut health as well which affects your entire body. Until pharma comes out with stuff that isn't riddled with these long term bad side effects its not worth it.
Yeah, even a lot of influencers who claim to be natural seem annoyingly neutral toward it. I think some of them may be trying to avoid offending/alienating steroid users and fans of enhanced bodybuilding, since roiders are becoming a bigger and bigger part of the fitness community. Alienating them means less clients to make money from or offending some of their friends who are on gear.
I'm glad you've addressed this - I'd noticed a trend of youtubers taking steroids and saying it's OK because they're honest about it. This just gives kids the idea that they could take drugs and be like their youtube hero.
I think you're the only youtuber that has an holistic approach to fitness. It's pretty incredible how online "fitness" is pretty much only geared towards bodybuilding and (slightly) powerlifting. Thanks, you're awesome!
Dan John is another great holistic type, with like 40 years of coaching experience. His lifting advice starts with "drink water, eat vegetables, sleep 8 or 9 hours a night, go to the dentist, go to the eye doctor, floss your teeth."
It's definitely gotten much better in the last few years. It used to be the most niche you could get was the small amount of strongman channels. Everything else was body building, or power lifting with an aim to improve your body building. Now, kettlebell training is big on UA-cam, calisthenics are everywhere. Mace and club bells are popping up. I even get lots of climbing and movement training stuff. And, this is largely from reputable people. I think (sadly) the majority of the biggest channels will be roid monsters with no clue how to coach or program for the individual. But, we should celebrate the wins as well
You’re a bad ass bro. Good example of how this shit is for life - that’s the true natty way, not some flash in the pan bullshit for social media like all these juiceheads.
Dragonball, DBZ/DBSuper/DBGT etc really did nail the advice to all of us. - Train hard. - Eat well. - Sleep good. - Never give up. - Never be afraid of receiving or offering help to others. - Desire for unlimited power is always a bad choice. - Everyone's journey and skill level are different, but just as important and impactful. Perfect advice for everyone.
Youre gonna be real upset when you learn about Senzu Beans, the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and potential unlocks....kinda reeks of performance enhancement if you ask me lol
Thank you for this. Social media fitness is so fixated on bodybuilding that the promotion of steroids is far too normalised even by knowledgable and respectable coaches
Yeah, this is really weird to me. I always did sports, because I liked the activity (football, tabletennis, climbing). The looks were a side concern or none at all (I began playing football when I was 6). This focus on how it makes you look is something that I cannot understand. Where is the joy in movement? Today I mostly climb and I do use tools to increase my strength and flexibility off the rock, but this is always with the intention to enable me to climb better, harder or longer. Alot of sports can be done for decades on a very high level and especially in climbing and tabletennis, some people reach their peak in their 30s or even 40s (obviously not the majority). I wish fitness influencers would focus alot more on the joy of movement. Probably the only big influencer I can think of who does this is jujimufu. Especially his recent series on different gyms is quite inspiring to me.
I work for the ambulance service. About a month ago we were called out to a chap who had collapsed in the street. On arrival we could see he was huge; tall and stacked. However, he was drenched in sweat and breathing very slowly. We did the usual checks, including his blood sugars, which turned out to be very low, 1.5. We were able to get his BM (blood sugars) up to the level where he became conscious, when we were able to take a better history. Turns out he was a steroid user who also took insulin, which apparently helps with the uptake of proteins etc. However, his BM quickly tanked again and he lost consciousness, so we blue lit him into resus, where he was a known patient. The consultant there said the chap, who was 28, was unlikely to see 40. His heart was wrecked, his liver was shot and his kidneys were barely functional. He had a wife and young family. But he'll leave a great looking corpse I'm sure.
It's an absolute tragedy what a bunch of lying, scam artists have done to now generations of people. People, who spend more time in a gym than 99% of other people, are croaking in their 20s-30s... All to become some giant show of vanity.
@@huwhitecavebeast1972 That's a bit like saying "smoking incorrectly can be bad for your health". Using steroids or any other drug can have disastrous consequences for you and the people around you. Physical addiction, mental addiction, denial, that's already a tragedy.
"all sorts of things...mostly death." I think that's why it's mostly younger men hopping on, they don't really have a concept of the idea of mortality, or even long term consequences. I'm sort of glad I didn't start lifting until I was 25, by the time steroids floated by as an option, I was already health-conscious enough to have it be a clear no. The vast majority of steroid users are taking them to achieve gains they could get naturally. It's just sacrificing their health, mobility, functionality, endurance and sometimes their life to look the way they could if they just were more patient and learned how to train.
On point, as always, GVS! And the sad thing is most of them aren’t going to end up looking how they want anyway. I remember having no concept of mortality, those were the days 😂
Using steroid is basically putting a giant motor in your tiny ass car without upgrading cooling, management, frame reinforcement, suspension and drivetrain. Being stupidly big and can't tie your shoes nor doing meaningful labour is like having 1000hp on 185mm tires. 8 years of lifting on and off and your strength muscle size never goes away if you do it naturally and focusing on mastering your body instead of maxing out on strength or muscle mass. Your body is tremendously more complex than your IQ. So don't let these scammers on the internet tell you they are pushing the limit being a hero or whatever - they are just a bunch of teenagers stuck in their own high school musical phase...forever. Real men do shit, build houses, hunt games, play with cars n machineries etc...being stuck in the gym bc you are not OK without feeling big or pumped means that you are very uncomfortable in your own skin, you have a bigger problem there.
Being natural and in peak condition is like having a porsche, very fast and desirable but not the best or most expensive. The average guy on steroids is like one of those heavily modded honda civics slammed to the ground with no muffler, loud and obnixious
Spot on, ive been training naturally for 11 years, i am now bigger than many steroid users. But people seem to be unable to wait, they want to be huge at 20 years old and thats just not possible naturaly.
Actually steroids do have neurological changes. Specifically within the Amygdala. Basically, steroid user's brains become much more sensitive to emotions. This is why narcissist, who are most steroid users, as their goal is to impress others and be the center of attention. Theses people become more aggressive towards others who they perceive as a threat to their social status. Aka jealousy. If they don't feel like the most important and special person in the room, they become hostile to others. This is not male behavior, this is female behavior in a muscular man. On top of this, the benefits of developing a muscular physique and it's physical abilities from high endogenous testostosterone production provides many neurological benefits which allow you to learn and have superior cognitive abilities that steroid users do not receive. Basically, being natural and making progress is a superior route and long term, it only provides upsides while the steroid user only has more risks and downsides as they age. All steroid users's personalities become toxic as they age.
@@TheBioneeryou used to muscle through your martial arts a lot and it’s clear you’ve learned to relax quite a bit and let the form carry the power, great job man!
I've been training for over thirty years; never did steroids or other PEDs. Since I knew that I would never be the biggest guy in the gym (even if I did do steroids) and since the gym, while important, wasn't my entire identity, I was never really even tempted. Over the years, training has helped me learn about my body and about myself. I don't think that steroids would make this learning process any better; in fact, I think that using steroids to fast-track growth might have caused me to miss learning some things about myself. I'm almost 50 now and, while I'm not super big or super ripped, I like to think that I'm fitter and stronger than most people ten years my junior. Learn about yourself and find ways to stay in the game as long as you can: those are the real reasons to train. Excellent video, mate.
I absolutely love your channel. Thanks for making this. For anyone else that sees this (especially young people). You could do irreparable damage to your organs and endocrine system with steroids. Anyone under 25 has probably not yet reached their peak of physical development. Your body will literally forget how to make testosterone. As he said, you will need to be on something, FOREVER. Strength train through various modalities. Find a martial art, or something to compete in, to develop your athletic potential and mind. Eat and supplement to fit your goals, be it cutting or bulking. Don't smoke or drink excessively.
I agree people that young shouldn't mess with it unless it is to help heal from a serious injury. A temporary course prescribed by a doc isn't going permanently wreck you.
When I was in the Marines (infantry) we a had few guys using and yes, they looked like Greek gods but when it came to going on long runs or rucks they would almost always be the first ones to fall out due to the extreme pumps they would be getting in their calves and legs. And its no secret that Marines love to drink. Alcohol plus steroids destroyed their livers and I witnessed a few guys get jaundice or at the very least they would be getting sick a lot more than everyone else. They are only for looks, not performance.
Same brother. "Pounds equal pain." There are some mission sets where they make sense, but ones that are specifically designed to add mass, shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the infantry. If some cooks want to take them who gives a shit 😂
No man, they def enhance performance. Thing is you have to do it right, and lots of people don't and over do it. Also I'm sure your buddies were young, when there is no need for steroids. So they probably had ridiculously high hormone levels.
I was in the marines to I only saw a couple of guys on steroids on ship so I didn’t know how it effected performance there but when I was commercial fishing we had a guy who used steroids he would tire out real fast. It’s wierd seeing someone so healthy looking fall out like that.
I was on them for 10 years, free for 10 years now. The amount of injuries i have now in my joints. I have achilles tendonitis in BOTH ankles and an injured shoulder. Was doing them for MMA. The steroids kept me from noticing my injuries, until I quit. I started feeling everything right after. Be careful kids. 0/5 Don't recommend
Yes, yes, yes, brother - thanks for your brave transparency. For your future - your trick will be to _carefully_ and _responsibly_ TRAIN/DEVELOP your _CONNECTIVE TISSUES_ - _rather than your muscles,_ MAINLY. Your musculature will keep up (with proper nutrition and rest, but you already know that) - but it's the SLOWER-recovering _tendons/joints/cartilage/fascia_ that will pose your only frustration from overtraining - _even though you wanted to go further_ in each session. Supplement the FUCK out of collagen/whey, and get LOTS of high-quality protein, vegetables/micronutrients, and high-quality FATS. Your tendons and joints are EVERYTHING, now - and they can and will respond - _slowly, slowly, SLOWLY._ But MAKE that happen for yourself. REALIZE that athleticism for yourself... By achieving a serious degree of _true resilience._ It will be hard - and it will be REAL - like compound interest in the bank. For the rest of your entire life.
@@MrOrthodox13 That's actually a crucially important fallacy, right there. See, the thing is - it DOES catch up. Your tendons and connective tissue eventually fall BEHIND the muscular development... while the steroid's _antiinflammatory_ power temporarily masks the problem sufficiently - before the strains/tears begin to really happen. (The constant instances of this in athletics/weightlifting are neverending.) So there's a big conundrum: the very strong muscle-growth response, vs. the less (very) strong connective tissue-growth response.
Funny thing - as a 45m, I went to the doctor for my regular checkup and we did my blood work. He never even checked my T levels. Because.... in the real world (not fitness influencer world), if you aren't complaining about symptoms that might be associated with low T, there's no good reason to test it. Why bother? You're fine! It kinda doesn't matter what the number is if you have no symptoms of low testosterone. Not all, but a lot of this "I got tested and I have low T, so I got on HRT because I need it" is code for "I got legal steroids in my country."
There are also the long term consequences for supplementing TRT at too early a stage of life. The body, floored with this exogenous test, slows down and eventually stops producing Test on it's own. That's why its an elderly intervention; taking Test when the body has virtually stopped producing it has much less (if any) long term effect on health. Its just allowing someone to stay active and increase healthspan more than lifespan.
@@pranakhan A younger person would be better off taking HCG since it won't shut you down, but it won't have the pronounced effect. Lifestyle factors often are the cause low testosterone. A lot of these younger influences have zero fat in their diet or are in a caloric deficit when they are getting tested.
Thanks for addressing it! Social media seem lately to be getting saturated by insecure fitness influencers who put a lot of effort into trying to rationalize their steroids use. It's time to start calling it out.
You shouldn't apologize for making such a pessimistic video. We need more people in the community to speak up about this. It's so heartbreaking, especially seeing really young people juicing before they can even comprehend what they're doing to themselves.
Steroids are destructive and not worth it. TRT in a normal physiological dose, prescribed by your doctor can be a game changer for older men. I've known many guys that use them to balance low testosterone, manage depression, etc. When my T gets to the point it is considered low, I will probably do this as well.

Fantastic video. Almost all of the points you made are heavily downplayed or even just ignored in the mainstream fitness scene - at least in my tiny bubble. Thank you for addressing these points so well
I've been in the gym for almost 20 years now as a natural staving off the temptation of steroids. I appreciate your transparency and point of view in the topic as I share it. I am exhausted at the numbers of influencers touting steroids as if they are the fountain of youth. They are just braindead junkies dragging young impressionable people into a lifestyle of poor decisions, poor health and regret. I hope your message reaches and resonates with the youth and younger adults.
Thanks for existing mate, been following this gem since you had less than 100k, many many years ago, and since Ever, Never been dissapointed. Your video essays have helped to shape what I consider to be the cornerstone of my view in life, throught movement culture. This channel was one of the reasons why I graduated in P.E. - and having a closer look in the epidemic of steroids in young male who are clearly going throught the first stages of vigorexia, knowing that creators like you exist give me hope that our youngs can still find AMAZING role models who are transparent about this complex world of fitness and iron culture
I'm 46 and started lifting a couple years ago after not lifting since high-school. Other than about 5 extra pounds of fat, I have achieved my high-school physique completely natural. seems harder to trim my midsection now.
I would assume exercise and diet will help your health issue.... just don't do any of those "extreme" fad diets. Also, realize that many of the "lean" pictures you see are at an unhealthy 10% or below body fat.
Dude best video on steroids...ever. Well put man. I always cringe when I hear people saying "just do it if you want cause it's your body but just be educated". It just over complicated life. You can make SO MUCH progress without and not be dependent on anything but what YOU have. Thanks man! All the best
I already loved this channel but now my respect has gone up next level. I come from a family of steroid users and we are naturally big units genetically. At 120kg of pure muscle, i am the SMALLEST of my family. I am the only natural one and proud to be. I am actually stronger than a lot of them, im the only one who can run, get an erection and wipe their own butt. As i said, we are genetically gifted enough and my natural size makes people part ways in the street around me. So i look at my brothers and cousins and just think...why??? They are 40 and already damaged health wise. My cousin shane is 42 with liver failure-he doesnt drink, he takes steroids. Stay far away from that crap.
Finally, finally someone who is not glorifying drugs, who knows and share the real risks, and speak the truths about them. I’ve been tempted my whole lifting journey to take stuff by my friends, influencers and social media in general. I’m so glad I’ve never touch that stuff and never will. The fitness industry need you man, thanks for your work❤
This was a great video to make, I’m tired of watching videos of guys who are juiced out of their minds paying lip service to the negatives of steroids while really just the fact that they owe their living to steroids is an advertisement enough for impressionable youths. Nice to see a normal person really get down to the truth about how that stuff really makes you weaker.
I gave up on the gym. Realized it was by design geared to bodybuilding. I just want to be strong. Found Mark Wildman's program and work out at home with kettlebells and clubbells. Work out ten minutes most days and get better results than the gym.
@@ggmgoodgamingmichael7706 Why, if what others talk about in the gym affects you that easily, you are unlikely to be the type of person to reach your full and true potential because you are easily influenced and put off by others. At the end of the day when you place yourself under a heavy weight, it's just you vs the weight anyway and everyone else doesn't matter in that moment.
And you're going to die anyway. For every person who got fcked up on gear there are people that were on it and make it well into their 80s. How you do something is often as important as what you do.
Agreed, steroid normalists/apologists disgust me. Kind as people such as Neol Deyzel may seem, they do carry part of the blame for people dying/permanently maiming themselves.
I like how the tone was serious enough to convey the right message. It's like steriods turn your life slowly into an inescapable black mirror episode where you're in the lead role, it just never ends well, you may think it will, until you realise its too late to go back.
It’s robbing from their future years, which many say they don’t mind doing in this present time, however their future selves will more than likely not feel the same way about it when it’s time face the consequences.
For some it is for some it isnt. You can blast hard in your 20s manage your bio markers and blood pressure and be pretty much scot free if you have decent gealth genetics. If you have average or below health genetics yeah youll do harm. Unintelligent sheepish comment.
Honestly, I haven't watched your videos.. in a while.. (due to having a new account) but this was so real and yeah I'm sick and tired of the normalization of Steriods, I was tempted to take them when I was younger, now I'm focused on functional training, even just doing cardio I'm literally the only guy at my gym who does both strength training And cardio. (the young kids and the gymbro's doing strenght training while the elderly do cardio)
I agree with everything here. Glad this is (well!) addressed here. I'd like to add something on why some non-bodybuilding athletes do use steroids to great *short-term* effect (in BJJ, for example). I think the fact that users "pay the full price later" is a big reason some well-informed athletes still choose that route (especially if strength matters a lot in their sport and PED tests are limited or absent).
Short term and limited in scope. I think that’s the difference between wanting to be “functional” and well rounded versus tunnel vision on a single metric
It's all in how you do it. If you are young, you just shouldn't do it. But when you are older 40+, there can be levels of test use that are actually helpful, not hurtful. You are talking about people who abuse the hell out of PEDs. Using hgh or whatever to help heal from an injury is fine and there is no real price to pay later is something I see as a legit use of PEDs.
glad you said this. there's too many people like "well it's their choice so we should respect it" like no. Yeah it's their choice, but so are other stupid choices like not wearing a seatbelt or motorcycle helmet.
I always found funny how people say "you should respect their choice" and that kind of bullshit. No, no i shouldnt, i am free to criticize them just how they are free to dont respect my choices and criticize me. That saying is just a massive cope for insecure people that dont want their choices challenged or indecisive people aka (cowards) that dont want to take a side, but not because they dont give a shit, but because they are too scared to do so.

Well done for making this video. Too many fitness UA-camrs are scared to say this. There's no justification for promoting such a damaging and life threatening practice. It's like saying many people take cocaine, so let's have UA-cam channels promoting sustainable use of cocaine. Most normal people can't stand the look of steroid enhanced bodies. It looks OK on camera, but in real life users look really unhealthy, especially after 10 or more years of doing it. Not to mention the side effects ALL users get after many years of doing it.
The really sad thing is so many people taking these are nowhere even close to maximizing their micro-nutrient intake and sleep. Don't you want to see the absolute maximum your body is capable of naturally? Your body knows what it's doing as far as adaptation, the incredible specialization of various athletes and people living in unique ways throughout the world, and the comically fine and complex biochemical balance the body must maintain are proof of this. If you want the absolute best performance out of yourself, you must choose what you want to excel at and then give your body the absolute highest quality fuel and rest to do that with. Forcing your body hormonally to adapt when it isn't getting what it needs to do that level of adaptation naturally is hurting yourself in the long run, and as well as that, lifting weight in a straight line 6-12 times in a row seems like kind of a very non-optimal specialization to have. And this is from someone who does take HRT for psychological reasons (although not the muscle building kind,) so yes, I'm being a hypocrite, but I feel like this is still true.
Taking anything for legitimate health reasons is different and doesn’t make you a hypocrite! If your natural production is impaired then you are re-establishing the equilibrium or at least doing what you can to get close. But you’re 100% right - the human body is a finely tuned machine when it’s healthy. It’s not holding out on you - if more testosterone was a net benefit for our evolution we would already be producing it.
@@TheBioneer Thank you! It's more like trying to completely change the type of natural production I have to be better aligned with a certain set of completely arbitrary, made up, and regressive social standards that I feel better suit me lol, but only to a natural level all the same (which is funnily much harder to do than going way higher than that.) And yes, people should take notice of the fact that we did not evolve to be hulking masses of muscle that catch wind walking twenty feet, but rather, deceptively strong and fast, brutally intelligent, and incredibly high endurance animals.
While the message itself is awesome and in good faith, saying that 'steroid won't really increase your performance' is kinda misleading. They are called 'performance enhancing drugs' for a reason. No matter what you do athletically (ride bikes, swim, wrestle, lift weights etc.) there are drugs that will make you perform better and achieve more. Obviously there are trade-offs for that and no good cause to take the risks if what you do on like isn't closely tied to your athleticism. Still, enhancing performance is no joke and will be achieved in some way (depending on how you're going to use them).
True, but the military isn't making them use it. His point is that if steroids were so great, then they would be part of the military's official training regimen.
@@cuboid_android Obviously, I watched the video too. People take them to perform there job better. Also, I think the point is slightly faulty as steroids are illegal in the USA and the USA is the only country that has the budget to keep people on a cycle. Furthermore, there are steroids that atheletes use to improve there longevity and strength like lebron james (dominating at 40 for 20 years). So while i do agree to some extent, I believe his point is not perfect. Also, I think steroids are good for older men once there natural testosterone production has evaporated. However, the video seems to be more about keeping young people of gear which is align with.
No, steroids just don't make you a better soldier. Militaries don't use them because it does not work. First of all, it's not as expensive as you paint it to be in comparison to other military spendings. All major militaries would have the capacity to at least supply some units with with drugs - especially considering they'd be injured or die less often IF they worked. I am also pretty sure that the US military would find a way around the legal issues. Also, testosterone production does not "evaporate" with age, typically. It is approximately 1 per cent per year starting at around age 35, and some portion of it is caused by lifestyle choices. Sure, if you are truly hypogonadal or suffer from low test symptoms, HRT is medicine, otherwise it's just drug abuse.
While I agree with your overall take on this video, one thing I'd say is that while the military doesn't use or allow steroids, many of the soldiers (particulary in special forces) use them a lot. Like a lot of martial artists who use them, it's often not about improving performance but speeding up recovery. Top level soldiers are often putting their bodies through hell and simply can't maintain their performance without help sadly.
one thing that attracts me to your channel is the fact you champion sprinting so much. its just one of the best feelings in the world. the idea you would take roids and ruin your bodies ability to do that is wild to me. it makes me happier than anything in this world. weight lifting i do because i have to but sprinting literally makes my day everyday.
The fitness industry always talks about never giving up, I view any form of cheating as giving up on yourself accepting you do not have what it takes to win fairly and need to cheat to reach your goals, I've got far to much belief and respect for myself to ever do that. It might take a long time, it might involve a lot of hard work, it will mean results come slower to you than other people but with the natural way you earn your stripes and that's the impressive thing.
@@huwhitecavebeast1972 I clearly answered it, its an unfair unnatual, advantage, unlike protein powder. It can make people stronger in 6 months, that a natural can achieve in 12 years, that is very frustrating for someone who has worked that hard for that long, see someone come along jump on gear and out do them in 6 months completely undeserved. The difference is the one is earned and respected the other is cheating.
Very strongly agree. In a world where Abuse of "Performance enhancing drugs" is promoted and pushed onto the young audience who don't fully understand the risks:rewards ratio, It's important to spread awareness about permanent and life long negatives that impair cognitive and functional ability which helps in the real world. Hands off to you for making this video 👏
One use case not mentioned is recovering from severe sarcopenia, such as from serious surgical procedures (hip fractures, car accident victims who spend years sometimes with very limited mobility causing life-altering muscle wasting). This is one of the few cases where something like oxandrolone is used in a medical context (as well as some others such as burn victims). I understand that is not what you're concerned about, and that's not what anyone on UA-cam is considering them for.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. Seen too many high profile strength/muscle youtubers ignore this. Seen too many people end up with life changing illnesses eg cardio eg atherosclerosis, and blaming other things and dropping down dead or having a stroke many many years before their time. Should be muscle and fitness together and not ignoring the health aspect. Many good intelligent people have made this mistake eg John Meadows
People often rail against gear for warping our perspective on what is naturally attainable. I've been noticing another side to this problem; more and more people are under the impression that steroids are the ONLY way to put on muscle. This means that people get discouraged from training in the first place, or they start juicing before they've even explored their genetic potential. I think this is an unfortunate side-effect of steroids becoming less taboo.
I think its mostly whatever image they got in thier head for what makes a physique good. I grew up thinking Arnold's physique was perfect, and Bruce Lee was scrawny. Some people think Bruce Lee looks muscular. If you have expectations among the enhanced physiques and dont see anything less as worthwhile, then it makes sense why many would not want to try. I myself am in the process of giving up. Ive traid for many years to build a respectable physique. But I havent even managed to get to the Bruce Lee build that looks small to my eyes......so from my perspective I'd rather just go back to being fat. At least then I can eat good food again.
@@taylorhillard4868 Unless you have serious medical issues (or you are very old), giving up and resigning yourself to a life of being fat is foolish and completely unnecessary. Bruce Lee's physique ('small' or not) was elite. If everyone gave up on things because they couldn't make the top 5%, nobody would try at anything, and society would cease to function. Also, you can eat good food and still maintain a healthy lifestyle, good body composition and training regimen. Stop thinking in black and white. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. But I'm just some rando on the internet. You do you.
@@Bvggerffpls well there's a difference between working out and literally any other endeavor, so most people don't care if they're not in the top 5%. Working out isn't like that, it's painful and time consuming, and makes you sore every day forever. Plus I haven't been able to eat pasta, meatloaf, or sloppy Joe's in like 3 years, and I'm still not proper lean. So yeah, for all that suffering I better end up the hottest bimbo in town. Anything less is worthless. It's just misery for no payoff. No other endeavor asks so much of your ability to withstand punishment.
@@taylorhillard4868most people who work out regularly enjoy at least some facet of it. Exercise is not a punishment for eating. Bruce Lee didn't spend his life in deprived, exhausted misery. He liked his sport. Top tier athletes do what they do because they like it. If you do not enjoy lifting weights, try swimming, or basketball, or bowling. Anything that gets your body moving that you enjoy.
@@sethadams8844 I know exercise isn't a punishment for eating. The effect of exercise on total caloric expenditure is negligible in my experience. For me, maintaining even 18%bf means I can eat barely anything, I can easily eat over my daily limit in a single meal with anything remotely palatable. And doing what is enjoyable doesn't build a physique. I do not care about fitness or health, I need a body.
There’s this demented situation where the majority of fitness advice online is through the paradigm of bodybuilding and being insecure about your body size. I get the appeal as a small guy who clawed myself out of scrawny skinny fat, but there’s so much more to fitness! Even doing super high reps for my legs feels like a more radical move than going on TRT….that’s crazy!
Once again you are proving to your audience that you are the real deal. Not sugar coating how bad drug usage is seems to be a hard thing to do for many influencers
Thanks for the message! It's really important to spread it. There are a lot of fitness influencers on gear talking quite open about it and giving out warnings. But it doesn't seem to help a lot. People just say: "I'm taking a calculated risk" or "I know the risks and side effects" while still taking the shit. Your approach to talk about the questionable performance enhancing effects may be better! And addressing the underlying reason for steroid use - insecurity - is also important. Maybe people find a better way of dealing with it, than destroying their health... And I didn't knew that steroids had these negative effects on your cognitive performance. There is a lot of talk about the physical negative side effects and that there are problems with libido and emotional regulation. But that you get dumber, was new to me
Really glad you made this video We live in an age where young men are probably more insecure and confused than they’ve ever been before They wrongly think that by being the biggest guy in the room they will be happy and so they take steroids to make that happen faster Focus on your health fitness and happiness
I'm 24 and have been training 6 times a week for just over a year now. My body is transformed, I love training I met friends in the gym and I'm now getting into competitive powerlifting. However I have many these symptoms you mentioned in the video since this year. Some people assume I use steroids including family members. -Acne got worse, it's now all over my chin and cheeks and upper back, even when I'm treating it with over the counter drugs, -I'm quite anxious -I have some gyno(Although it could be from puberty but undetected as i used to be overweight a bit) -I have heightened blood pressure(135/71) -I can only describe it like this: I have become more rigid and hardheaded -consistent bad sleep The only supplement I take is creatine I never used steroids as my primary goal in life is starting a private practice in the next ten years and I need my brain for that lol. Doctors won't take me seriously. "the acne is too mild" "excercise more and limit salt intake for blood pressure(I excercise 6 times a week???)" "oh you don't have sleep apnea and the sleep isn't that bad..." What is causing this change in me and where I go from here? (I won't stop weightlifting, even with this it's still worth to me)
Took them when I was younger, lost so much hair and getting it back was an absolute pain. It also temporarily aged my face substantially with the water weight, hypertrophied face muscles, skin quality etc. I do believe they enhance performance, especially at low doses of test for example in sports. It's really difficult to do minimal damage to yourself on them though, they also DO lower IQ, manifests as feeling foggy, you can get anhedonia (especially to anything that isn't the gym or your sport), they can help you learn skills faster apparently which I find interesting. Tendon sides are also huge indeed and dangerous, I never had anything but overall it probably wasn't worth it. I was fascinated by the chemistry so it was inevitable I would try, but I would do it much differently, that's for sure. People take it for aesthetics but the truth is less is more aesthetically, if you're lean that's more attractive to 99.9% of people, the echo chamber that is the fitness community is not reality.

I think it's silly that you said steroids don't work by on your they do work they make you stronger a lot stronger and after it didn't work why do people use them to get an advantage in sports if they didn't work they would have gone out of style
Steroids actually increase the amount of red blood cells you have
Steroids awesome please the amount of red blood cells you have
I’m so glad you’re addressing this, I’m so tired of the normalization of “performance enhancing” drugs.
Sorry to break it to you but they’ve been normalised since the 60s the only difference is that now people don’t lie about eating vegetables and genetics.
It’s steroids and hard work. Nothing else.
Steroids are not supposed to enhance performance, for that you have to abuse them. And that does not simplify things, it complicates everything.
Yes, and let's also not neglect to mention how they shrivel your balls and give you little baby nuts.
@@divineglitch9550 They haven't exactly been "normalized". Taking steroids is still seen by most as being abnormal and associated with drug cheats, etc.
@@divineglitch9550There's an epidemic now
Adam, this is fantastic.
Thank you! 😁 I really appreciate it!
For real it's bs
It's less middle of the road and more just being honest. There are upsides to gear but they come at a steep price. If you ignore the upsides then people aren't going to listen to you explain the downsides.
I almost never follow strength and hypertrophy advice from users but I absolutely do follow their joint health advice knowing how much they trash ther joints lol
😂😂
Brilliant 😂 👏
It doesn’t really follow though because steroid user’s muscles rapidly outpace the resilience of their other tissues. That is not a problem for natties.
@@jmass4207 But that is the point
Steroids were actually created to treat patie ts with serious medical conditions. Just go and see a good doctor, maybe they'll give you a green light.
If your doctor recommends it , sure go for it@@funkysawmanwright5077
I used PED's in my early twenties and ended up with multiple injuries that still nag me in my now early 30s. Don't use them bros. Unless you're a pro athlete or actor that has a million dollars on the line based on your performance, or you have a LEGITIMATE need for TRT, it's simply not worth it.
Did your natural t bounce back after stopping?
That’s interesting, I have multiple injuries when I was natural and now I take PEDs for recovery works pretty well
How did you injure yourself?
@@Themilkman95 It goes back to what he states in the video, your muscles heal quickly, but your ligaments don't and collagen production decreases overall. So pushing week after week upping the weight results in something eventually snapping because it hasn't had the time to adjust to the new weights and volume that the attached muscles are pushing. Also not to mention long term use has consequences for your heart and gut health as well which affects your entire body. Until pharma comes out with stuff that isn't riddled with these long term bad side effects its not worth it.
Yh obv. Drugs are great until the negatives hit you@Themilkman95
it weirds me out on how neutral fitness influencers are to a drug that kills people so young
Me too
Yeah, even a lot of influencers who claim to be natural seem annoyingly neutral toward it. I think some of them may be trying to avoid offending/alienating steroid users and fans of enhanced bodybuilding, since roiders are becoming a bigger and bigger part of the fitness community. Alienating them means less clients to make money from or offending some of their friends who are on gear.
Maybe we should leave the world early.
@@Natural_Potential.0 this is the real answer
It’s disgusting tbh
I'm glad you've addressed this - I'd noticed a trend of youtubers taking steroids and saying it's OK because they're honest about it. This just gives kids the idea that they could take drugs and be like their youtube hero.
It’s like stealing and then admitting it.
I think you're the only youtuber that has an holistic approach to fitness. It's pretty incredible how online "fitness" is pretty much only geared towards bodybuilding and (slightly) powerlifting. Thanks, you're awesome!
You should also check out GMB fitness. They have a beautiful approach to fitness
Dan John is another great holistic type, with like 40 years of coaching experience. His lifting advice starts with "drink water, eat vegetables, sleep 8 or 9 hours a night, go to the dentist, go to the eye doctor, floss your teeth."
Natural Hypertrophy is also a great natty channel about fitness and philosophy :) both him and Bioneer are amazing!

- Eat well.
- Sleep good.
- Never give up.
- Never be afraid of receiving or offering help to others.
- Desire for unlimited power is always a bad choice.
- Everyone's journey and skill level are different, but just as important and impactful.

Because you need it to compete . Simple as that. A smart coach knows you don’t use them , you won’t make it
I work for the ambulance service.

I think that's why it's mostly younger men hopping on, they don't really have a concept of the idea of mortality, or even long term consequences.

If you can't get it from gathering in wild, hunting, fishing, growing in your garden, or the periphery of the grocery store -- it's cheating.
Being natural and in peak condition is like having a porsche, very fast and desirable but not the best or most expensive. The average guy on steroids is like one of those heavily modded honda civics slammed to the ground with no muffler, loud and obnixious
Anyone can atrophy, natural or not. But gains from human growth hormones never goes away, and some testosterone based changes are permanent.
Imagine entirely outsourcing your strength and virility to a drug you could run out of at any moment

Steroids are rife in the military! Especially special forces ! I agree with many points made in the video but he's a bit of the mark on that one 😂
EPO is specifically for performance and endurance

@TheBioneer thanks buddy! Going to take years! But I'll get there 🙃 focused on being a dad now! Keep up your work sir!
The point is to do them every week for the rest of your life. That way you wouldn't have any of those issues, but you probably know that already.
@@MrOrthodox13
That's actually a crucially important fallacy, right there.
See, the thing is - it DOES catch up. Your tendons and connective tissue eventually fall BEHIND the muscular development... while the steroid's _antiinflammatory_ power temporarily masks the problem sufficiently - before the strains/tears begin to really happen. (The constant instances of this in athletics/weightlifting are neverending.)
So there's a big conundrum: the very strong muscle-growth response, vs. the less (very) strong connective tissue-growth response.
Thank you for calling it out! Too many kids and young people are bwing sucked into this
You can always count on The Bioneer to me honest, open and caring. Keep up the great work, you absolute legend!
100%! Especially when it’s a man influencer who looks stage ready in their 50s but it’s fine because their doctor said 🤦🏻♂️😂
There are also the long term consequences for supplementing TRT at too early a stage of life.
The real question is did insurance cover it as a litmus test. I do believe a lot of military veterans though are affected by low T due to PTSD, etc.
@@pranakhan A younger person would be better off taking HCG since it won't shut you down, but it won't have the pronounced effect. Lifestyle factors often are the cause low testosterone. A lot of these younger influences have zero fat in their diet or are in a caloric deficit when they are getting tested.
I think trt has a real use case in your 50s 60s etc. Look at rfk.
Thanks for addressing it! Social media seem lately to be getting saturated by insecure fitness influencers who put a lot of effort into trying to rationalize their steroids use.
It's time to start calling it out.
It takes a great father and man to upload a video like this.
This. The usage of test and other steroids needs to be more nuanced.
It feels like this was the common attitude 15 years ago and now people have just forgotten all this.
7:21 we actually just moved up to 3 min sparring at our gym and we were finished after the first round, keep in mind we’ve been sparring without issue at 2 mins😂, just that extra minute did so much. We’ve gotten used to it now after a few weeks but still
Finally, someone who has put in the work, has knowledge on said subject and being truthful in the reality of this aspect of body performance. Thank you Bioneer!
Thank you for speaking on this topic Adam! The fitness community needs someone speaking on this from this point of view.
Commenting here for two reasons, One, as your videos are great. they are informative and fun. Two, to tell the algorithm to push your videos to others. Keep Bioneer-ing.
you dropped this 👑
Fantastic video.
Thank you so much for the kind words 😁😁 I appreciate it!
Now that's a pretty provoking thumb title that's how you market your vid peeps
Great video as always, we need more of these anti steroid videos, especially when there’s a growth of influencers taking them
I wont lie this hyped me up that I am able to be lean and fit at 32 and totally natural whilst living with Ulcerative Colitis. Thanks man!
Eat less meat and processed foods. Both are causative for colitis.
@@huwhitecavebeast1972 Nah
Kent Carnivore here on UA-cam addresses this very issue from hard personal experience. Hope it is helpful. 👍🏻🙏
That goku ginyu reference was SO on Point
Two guys at the gym yesterday talking about their stack for 20 minutes. My gym is full of it
Find another gym
Bad company and all that..
I gave up on the gym. Realized it was by design geared to bodybuilding. I just want to be strong. Found Mark Wildman's program and work out at home with kettlebells and clubbells. Work out ten minutes most days and get better results than the gym.
@@ggmgoodgamingmichael7706why who cares if people on steroids are at your gym it doesn't effect your workout
I feel like steroids = giving up ... don't give up you got this your body is the most awesome machine you will ever control.
Good way of putting it
That would be inspiring, if not for the total lemon I'm stuck with. Can't even sell this thing for free.
Thanks for speaking on this! Always love your content!
I appreciate this. Will definitely continue watching your content
This is the single best breakdown of steroids, it’s shortfalls and dangers on UA-cam. Very well done my friend.
I like how the tone was serious enough to convey the right message. It's like steriods turn your life slowly into an inescapable black mirror episode where you're in the lead role, it just never ends well, you may think it will, until you realise its too late to go back.
Black mirror is VERY apt! Also the conditions that lead people to it in the first place.
Thank you for taking this stand.
I'm glad someone finally says it on UA-cam!
The only bad thing about this video is that youtube doesnt allow me to super like it 👍 Love the content
glad you said this. there's too many people like "well it's their choice so we should respect it" like no. Yeah it's their choice, but so are other stupid choices like not wearing a seatbelt or motorcycle helmet.
well it is their choice and I dont think they gaf whether you care or not
More people die from
Alcohols each year than steroids so it should be illegal too. Your dumber than steroid users if you drink.
@@VonRibbitt do you think obese people should be shamed as much as steroid users?
@@kirkchurchil8216 Unless the reason for the obesity is an actual medical condition, then Yes.
I was very obese once, shaming was one of the things that made me realize how obese i was, and the thing that made me have the motivation to change my life.
Now i play sports regularly and have a healthy life style. If people had coddle me and told me things like "you are fine the way you are" i would probably had died from a heart attack by now.
You are not wrong.
Keep up the good work!
Excellent, important points. Well-said - and bravely transparent, too. 👍
100%
. Then there are people that do all that AND take steroids on top of it to take their performance further.
Well said Adam 👏. No prevarication, nailing your colours to the wall in a world where being ethical is seen as weakness ❤
A lot of people in the military do use steroids. But I still agree.
Also police and fire department.
The army isn’t sourcing them tho
The Bioneer isn’t the channel youtube deserves, but the one it needs
How is going on gear cheating? Is increasing your protein consumption also cheating? How about drinking caffeine or a pre work out? Eh?
@@huwhitecavebeast1972 Because you could never reach those levels naturally, its an unfair advantage, chosen only by the weak of will.
@@shadesof96 What nonsense. You just sound like a crybaby.
@@shadesof96 Also you failed to refute or even address my question.
Thanks for speaking up!
Bro, I’ve never commented on your videos before, but you have earned it here. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻

Sadly, the people who most need to hear this are probably not the ones listening to you (and similar, responsible creators).
Brilliant video Bioneer, you the man.
You are completely right, thank the gods for your content 🙏
Very helpful video when temptation starts to creep in. Thank you for the positive reinforcement 🙏
You have told the reality of steroids . That is not talked enough anywhere
But that you get dumber, was new to me
Really glad you made this video
We live in an age where young men are probably more insecure and confused than they’ve ever been before
They wrongly think that by being the biggest guy in the room they will be happy and so they take steroids to make that happen faster
Focus on your health fitness and happiness
I'm 24 and have been training 6 times a week for just over a year now. My body is transformed, I love training I met friends in the gym and I'm now getting into competitive powerlifting.
However I have many these symptoms you mentioned in the video since this year. Some people assume I use steroids including family members.
-Acne got worse, it's now all over my chin and cheeks and upper back, even when I'm treating it with over the counter drugs,
-I'm quite anxious
-I have some gyno(Although it could be from puberty but undetected as i used to be overweight a bit)
-I have heightened blood pressure(135/71)
-I can only describe it like this: I have become more rigid and hardheaded
-consistent bad sleep
The only supplement I take is creatine I never used steroids as my primary goal in life is starting a private practice in the next ten years and I need my brain for that lol.
Doctors won't take me seriously. "the acne is too mild" "excercise more and limit salt intake for blood pressure(I excercise 6 times a week???)" "oh you don't have sleep apnea and the sleep isn't that bad..."
What is causing this change in me and where I go from here? (I won't stop weightlifting, even with this it's still worth to me)
I really want you to hit a million subscribers. Your videos are needed for everyone no matter what their goal is.
Ah you even mentioned the IQ study(ies), good stuff!!!
This is a good message, thank you.
