This is what stood out to me too! She had so much personal style and extra difficulty, yet it didn’t feel off like many do. Easily, this was the best choreography I have ever seen for this and she makes me so jealous at what a beautiful dancer she is. ❤
I have watched several ballerinas dance Esmeralda but this one ABSOLUTELY NAILED it over the top with her spinning abilities. The choreography of the original is slow and could have added more steps to make it more exciting to watch which this dancer did! I applaud her sense of timing and pushing the envelope as well!!!
Man, she looked so tired at the end, it made me a little sad!! Melanie is a tough woman, she’s so talented and I have never seen her look so exhausted. It’s such a difficult variation. She never let on for one second during the performance though and THAT is what makes a dancer a GREAT dancer.
It’s like seeing the soul leave her body through her eyes. 🥺 What gets me is how graceful she is dancing, and then she immediately shifts to moving like an older woman who is hurting from just growing older.. Like, is she really hiding all of that pain while she’s doing all of that performance? Man… I hope she gets the physical and emotional respite she needs to heal herself 😫❤❤❤
@@Lucky9_9 so many dancers flop like that the second they’re not dancing, Tessa does it too, this was the most extreme I’ve seen from these girls…she just looked so depleted and I hope she doesn’t burn out. Dancers push themselves so hard, it’s not the teachers, they push too but to be a dancer is to be a perfectionist and they are their own worst critics. She looked so demoralized it made my heart ache…truth is, it is so much pain, and the body feels wrecked, when you’re not dancing you should be focused on recovery. Icing and resting. The muscles can only take so much and it’s brutal. She’ll get injured if she keeps pushing then it’s over. They have such a short window to have a career as an actual dancer, they have to be careful. One injury can end it all. Martha Graham said "a dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." Obviously you can teach and choreograph etc, but they do this out of passion and love…they sacrifice so much. It’s tragic seeing a dancer develop a condition or sustain an injury.
Melanie, you are definitely gifted in ballet. There is a saying that "the audience is supposed to see the beauty and movement of a dance, not the effort behind it." You demonstrated that in this dance. I enjoyed watching, and you made it seem easy and effortless. Then, as you're walking off stage, you're huffing, puffing, slouching, and looks like you're about to pass out. My thoughts instantly said "wow there was a lot of work that went into that piece." I applaud your skill👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿.

I’m not a dancer, so I don’t know, but maybe the ballerinas you’re criticizing are just not able to stick to the music as well as Melanie did. Maybe it’s inability instead of arrogance? By the way, speaking of sticking to the beat, there is a brilliant video called “why the music in Cats (2019) is worse than you think“ from a channel called Sideways. The Director told the orchestra to keep up with the singer as the singer should set the pace. Seriously. This Sideways chap is obviously very knowledgable about music. The deconstruction and analysis are probably very accurate (judging from the comments) and also very funny even to someone with me with little knowledge, but a love for a good, justified rant. ❤

But many forget that ballet isn’t JUST skills. Musicality, elegance, grace, emotions, and so many more are part of ballet
@@marynoonan6111 having done this variation; it's just hard to play a tambourine above your head with your foot 😅 you're either so focused on technique that you get the foot wacks wrong or you get those in time but you rush the movement. It's not that dancers don't hear that they're off, I think they're just more concerned with their placement and technique and it only takes a fraction of a second to be out of time. That's what makes this variation so difficult, even if the choreography isn't very advanced

I have to agree. There was nothing off as far as timing on this - what a pleasure she is to watch!
She was doing great until the developpes, she completely lost the beat in that last section
Ummmmm she did wreck the timing on every last develope. The rest was spot on, but that's the part where timing is most vital and noticeable.
I couldn’t tell that she was working hard until I saw her step off! It just looked so easy and that is why Melanie is so special.

We have no idea how many hours she danced that day, that week, etc. These dancers train so hard. I’m sure they get worn out!
