The Wandle was reported years ago as to be the finest trout River in the uk! It ends in Carshalton by the deer pens. In the town the large lakes have had no fish for many years after the council concreted the entire river bed and the amount of chemicals poured into it by a large chemical company.
Surprised ya didn't put a small bit of twig between the hook and the meat.. like a boily stop ..as a kid caught loads of carp on meat...with out the twig tho...comes off to easy ..use to leave it out to dry and harden up on the sides also helped
Speaking as an experienced chub & Barbel angler,it's best to keep the barbel in the net,in the water to rest and get its breath back etc... before releasing it.

This is the time period that the wensum Barbel have disappeared over.
I didn't say that otters had eaten every fish in the wensum, there's still plenty of chub, roach and perch. However, they seem to have a particular ability to take barbel. Or, perhaps more likely, the Barbel seem to have a weakness to being attacked by Otters.
I fish both... loads of chub in wensum and I think the otters were just nail in the coffin for wensum barbel. Pollution and water abstraction main problems for em 👍
Loved the video! Used to love fishing the good old meat when I lived in England. However, I now live in Atlanta and the fish over here don't really like it and I don't know why. I can catch some channel catfish now and again, but it anything but cold conditions, turtles snaffle the bait first!
Hello again, We dont have barbel here in Sweden ,but i use to fish chub a lot ,these days i use centerpin, and floating bread. This year i had 5 chubs with a weight of 4 and 5 pound ( 2,0-2,6 kg) I live in southern Sweden, in an area with fantastic carpwaters. But i hope i will catch a barbel some day. Bye the way ,i love your cockneydialect. Happy new year. Greetings Fishy Freddie.
Hmm, he's not a Cockney. Sounds more like East Midlands but slightly modified. I'd go for Leicester. Maybe he'll enlighten us.
That was your first video I’ve watched and what a beauty 🙏 good work mate.....now subscribed 👍
@jacoblondoncarpal cheers mate! Have a great new year 🙏 how do I telegram 😂
Really fascinating video. Interesting that you said the Chub was your first coarse fish in 6 years. Do Carpers not class Carp as coarse fish these days?
I thought the same, carp are of course coarse fish. Great vid tho' wasn't it.
Reminds me of my childhood back in the late 80-90s Used to be some stunning carp in the summer round by Abbey Mills
Cracking video mate I'm from Birmingham but one day I would love to get down and fish the wandle
What a fish. Shame it wsnt a Brownie but surrely to catch a Rainbow Trout in a London river is not a very common thing or am I wrong on that ??? Good fishing and cracking Chub and Barbel. Happy Christmas Bro to you and yours
Years ago, I was trout fishing on a river in Scotland. I didn't catch any trout, but what I did catch was about 20 or so Perch, they kept grabbing my flies, and nothing bigger that 1/2 lb., but I had a great time.
Hi mate I’m a local angler in south london I occasionally fish the wandle I’m wondering where abouts that last spot is that you were fishing as my target fish at the vg moment are barbel.Tight lines
A trout non the less ....excellent paid off in the end ...nice Barbel area.
Abbey Mills, I lived just along from there for 13 years, moved away in 2019.
jacob have you ever fished the woolwich dockyard docks? thoughts?
as a kid the only fish that swam in the wandle was stickle backs..nice to see the river so healthy
@jacoblondoncarpal can one still send a telegram? i thought they finished years ago
The Wandle was reported years ago as to be the finest trout River in the uk! It ends in Carshalton by the deer pens. In the town the large lakes have had no fish for many years after the council concreted the entire river bed and the amount of chemicals poured into it by a large chemical company.
Great video as always. If you follow the wandle south there are a number of great carp spots. Great fun.
Hey,
I agree. Sadly my net wasn’t deep enough and they kept jumping back out so on this trip I had to lift them straight out.
Top fishing good old Wandle delivers again.
Nice to see Colliers Wood on the tube.
Absolutely brilliant, makes a change from carp 🥱 vids (and I say that as a occasional carp angler) so refreshing, I'm fishing for barbel and chub on the kennet and had barbel scrapping 15lb Absolutely mental fighters, and chub over 6lb are such a lovely fish at that size...Good work! Subscribed
Thanks mate, all the best👊🏻👊🏻
Amazing content keep up the amazing work, you always provide us with amazing content, love your videos
Great video mate, well done, merry Christmas
Well done mate, nice to see young anglers fishing old school methods. Just a quick one tho, if you were on your own who took the aerial footage at 16:07 haha. Sorry bro, couldn't resist pointing it out lol.
Loved this fishing video mate well done
Nice watch i really enjoyed that 👌👍
A local pike Angler down here in Tonbridge in Kent has just caught a 45LB carp on a pike spinner can you believe that?Try to come down this way cause the rivers are absolutely full of barbel.Good video
Awesome video mate, you ever do any pike fishing on them rivers? Good sport in the colder months!
Such a shame to hear people( wherever they are from) asking if the fish can be eaten. Great video though. As for advertising the whereabouts there were others fishing the same stretch so it’s clearly a well known spot already. Love the video keep em coming mate!
Water companies discharged raw sewage into English rivers 372,533 times last year
There used to be some lovely Brown trout in the river In the mid 1980s.
In the summer you can still see big carp spawning Around the Wandsworth area.
There used to be a good head of dace around Wandsworth but I haven't seen those for a few years now, That might be because of the pollution spills from around beddington🤔
Great urban fishing video!
I have watched approx 3 mins and.... "Yo!" (O noes! I'm going to hate this!) But then.... I am in love, and saving the rest for later!
Carp fishing is course fishing. It's covered by the Trout, course and eel license.
Non course fishing is Salmon and sea trout.
