The song is about toxic relationships. The drink represents toxicity. She drinks it down and tries to contain it, but it consumes her and leaks out everywhere.
I took the video representation to mean there is always a possibility of a relationship hurting you in the end, but in order to give it a chance at all you have to open up yourself up to that person, despite how difficult that may be.
She did a really great interview where she talked about how someone once told her she was faking depression for clout basically and she said she had always struggled with depression and very young kids can. I myself have dealt with it since I was twelve when I didn't even understand it. Poetry helped me cope back then and reading through the old stuff really hits me still. At twelve I had a really surreal and intense awareness of my own existence and smallness in the world. She's a solid 10+ years younger than me but speaks to me on a personal level more than any other artist.
Could've written this myself, all these crazy feelings came on board for me at 12 and I had no idea what it was and didn't discover what depression was 'til I was about 19. I thought I was crazy, I didn't understand how everyone was just living their life every day when nothing mattered. So yeah, definitely plenty to write about if you're young and struggling!
Same, I'm so much older than Billie but I was 13 when I fell into depression and it got worse in my 20's before I admitted it ,but I hear all her issues and relate to them so much the same with rock music it heals me more even at my age 👍🏻
13:30 Wow! I've never seen a guy get so deeply moved by that song. I know I tear up whenever I hear it because it's so heart-breaking, so I totally know where you're coming from, but you'd have to be the first metalhead I've seen almost break. Hugs from Australia, mate, hope you're doing okay.
I'm a big Billie fan and I love watching your reactions to her videos, like your not quite sure what to make of them! I know it's not your genre but you give her respect. Billie puts a lot of work into the videos she even directs some of them.
I find that we don't remember the exact intensity of the pain and heartbreak in my teens and 20s. 52 now, rough abuse 8 to 16. I just want to scream at these young people that everything changes when you get older. You are in control! You get away from the bullies or the partners or whoever crushed you. It can and does end, if you move forward. Don't let them win! That is my fighting nature. Not to deminish anyones pain, but keep going because it gets better. You guys rock!
You are totally on the nose about Billie and Finneas, they're such old souls! I love your reactions to Billie. I'm a middle aged woman and the biggest Billie fan
ONE of you 👈 almost cried? I enjoy your analysis of Billie so much after this review I subscribed - I share your recent discovery of her as well. I’m 57 and heard of her for the first time about a month before the Grammy’s. Another good version of this song was on Howard Stern.
You’re not alone, Sporto. 🖤 This hits so close to home for many of us, regardless of age though. This swelling of harbored emotion seems like it’s going to burst through our rib cages and she tapped in to that. Billie and Finneas have been through so much already. In my opinion, the more pain and trauma endured at a young age makes us seem like old souls capable of understanding deep and complex emotion. Because we have to. To survive. We’re taught to embrace, harness, reflect, and understand the hurt causing our depression instead of hiding it, thus transforming it into growth and expression best relayed through art. Now I’m rambling. Much love, boys. Fellow metal head and proud Billie fan. New subscriber.
Hi, very not heavy metal, but if you are curious about Billie's brother, you should check out his music too--- he has an amazingly wonderful voice, and is obviously talented-- you might really like it-- you should check it out sometime. He has various songs here on UA-cam-- won't even recommend any particular one, but rather suggest you enjoy checking things out on your own. Enjoy the journey. Thanks for the awesome reactions.
Possible insite on how deep she can get: HORMONES. Seriously. When you're that age, you feel things so deeply. So hard. Your first love, you love them harder than anything. When you experience loss or sadness, it hurts more than anything. She is just a true artist, who can express that feeling in her music... interested to hear your thoughts?
Ya but she said she had only one date and I think it didn't even turn out to BE a date.....I just find it weird that she has so much to say about relationships and sex (in bad guy) when she hasn't even had a boyfriend
@@lyssagomez6009 I saw an interview of hers from late last year/early this year, I think, where she opened up about an actual pretty long term relationship that she had that was toxic
@@lyssagomez6009 most of her songs are not about relationships though. While her songs could be interpreted that way, for the most part she doesn't indicate they are in interviews she has done. Specific to Bad Guy, my understanding (based on her interviews) is that song is about an image people often portray about being a "bad ass".
the thing is - the whole album was not recorded in a studio, this was all done in her brothers bedroom. They wrote the whole album together. Would love to see you react to Lovely with Khalid!☺
So yeah, I could write disturbing songs, creepy songs, sad songs, romantically sad songs when I was 18 or less. That’s it! I hope you could understand that there are some teenagers out there that just went thought that exact same or more, and can put it into worlds like billie do ♡ i love her
You need to react to Billie Eilish: The same interview, the third year | Vanity Fair. Then yes you will know a little more about her and her emotional state
Firstly, I love your reaction videos. I find the conversations you have about the music you listen to very interesting, different from all the other reaction videos. You mentioned being interested in Billie doing covers of songs. She’s done a few covers but the ones I would highly recommend are the BBC1 version of The End of the World cover (originally by Rob Dickinson I think) and her cover of Micheal Jackson’s Bad cover. PLEASE REACT TO THEM YOU WON’T REGRET IT. Lastly, could you react to hostage by Billie please? It really shows her dancing abilities as well as some more of her acting skills. Thank you !
I love how she always has a song that at least one person really relates to or it hits home, great reaction. You should check out something from her EP "Don't Smile At Me" bellyache is a little bit more of an upbeat song or idontwannabeyou is a slower song depending on what you wanna check out
I'd just like to say, when it comes to song meanings, there can be times when someone doesn't go through something themselves, but have really strong understanding and empathy in general and can write about what they know others went/are going through. For example, I write a little bit and I can feel certain situations like I'm the one living them, so I am able to write about it like it's me. I didn't dig deep in Billie's life so I don't know if every song is about her life, but anyway, I believe she's got loads of empathy in general and is smart enough to understand situations of others and effects it has on people's thoughts and emotions. It could be just hearing about a certain situation or watching a movie etc.
This is my favorite song/video. Billie is a TRUE artist the way she conveys feelings through her music and visuals . I'm a FOREVER fan !!!!!! As requested below...let's do FINNEAS - I Lost a Friend !!!!!

The sad part is toxic relationships like what this song is about can happen at any age once you start dating. At 16 I was in a relationship with a guy who would make me block guy friends on my phone and only he had the passcode to unblock them. He had to know exactly where I was at all times, and so many other toxic things. It's sad that it can happen so early on in life

As a younger person myself, I can guarantee with 100% certainty that we go through emotional turmoil like this *very* often. It's part of why Billie and Fineas's music has struck such a cord with us. They put into music what we can barely put into words, and it resonates with us on a very personal level
I think it really depends on the person and what life experiences they have. Some people his tough times early on due to circumstance. Like for me the only struggles with relationships and people cheating on me was late high school early college.
Loved this reaction. You guys interpreted the meaning the same way I did after the first time hearing this.. I'm a 47 yo Army vet... And I can relate to her music...she's touching many people she and Finneas probably never imagined. I have purchased everything she and Finneas have ever released because I so profoundly appreciate their art. Btw, Billie recently shared back in October last year during her interview 3 years in a row with vanity fair that she is happier now than she been for years and she intends to stay grateful for her fame and try to stay happy. Such an old soul. Anyway.. Speaking of Sporto.. I mean rambling.. Love you guys ✌️
So it seems it is a shared catharsis. She is being uplifted in knowing she is also helping uplift others. Now, If you'll excuse me, I've gotta get back to listening to a particular Led Zepplin song... =]
Y’all are precious - so transfixed by the song that you didn’t speak basically the entire time she was singing. Love you guys. Y’all mentioned “if you love me let me go” and it made me wonder - have you heard “This is Gospel” by Panic! at the Disco? Hella cool video if you haven’t.
Consider the effect this 17-year-old girl had on you with a 3 minute video. Do you really think that you were up for a 5 or six minute dosage? This was my introduction to Billie last year while alone at work watching UA-cam videos on my lunch break. I was shaken emotionally by the music, lyrics, symbolism, and her acting. She broke my heart. I knew I needed to check out more by this kid.
She hits my core with her lyrics... my kids have been listening to her for a while and call me a "fake fan girl" because i just started listening to her stuff... mainly becausd of these guys tbh lol. But yeah... her stuff literally makes me relive my entire teen years through her albums... all the ups and downs... the horrible shit i went through and escaped... shit still hurts to this day... but her music makes me feel less alone, because someone else knows what im feeling and can articulate it better than i could ever.
They said it on awards " we wrote an album about depression, suicide and global warming" Kids of their generation have grown up with social media and are constantly bombarded with every kind of emotion . Finneas and Billie both have suffered depression Their mother taught them when they were younger the way to write songs and get emotion and feelings to come thru. You need to react to Finneas, majorly talented producer and song writer Billie has condition called Synesthesia is a condition in which one sense (for example, hearing) is simultaneously perceived as if by one or more additional senses such as sight. Another form of synesthesia joins objects such as letters, shapes, numbers or people's names with a sensory perception such as smell, color or flavor. So I feel that allows her to really translate the lyrics
@@redraw3401 I just saw in interview. She feels an emotion and it is related to color, number and smell. The opening of her album release she had separate rooms for each song. Temperature, color, texture, sound, everything was related to how the song made her feel or experience. She wanted to share it with her fans
This song seems to kick everyone in the gut. One of the best is a priest from London I believe. It’s actually one of her most viewed reaction. He said this video made him more emotional than any video he’s ever seen. I should watch it.
You should! His reaction is so emotional that it will make *you* emotional. He actually reacts to a lot of Billie's videos and he really like *understands* what she is and isn't saying better than anyone I've ever seen or met. Worth watching him.
@@tattoogirl2227 Relax, shes good but its not the '' best '' cover. theres some really good ones like Disturbed Sound of silence, original singers Simon / Garfunkel approved them.
@@FiercedWoW I'm sorry that my personal opinion bothered you, although I agree with you about their cover of Sound of Silence. It's phenomenal and was my favorite before she covered Bad. Ordinarily I don't like covers so I'm excited when I hear great ones. Nothing to relax about. And Billie's is still my current favorite. ✌️🎶💚
Finneas wrote this song for Billie. And they have both said it's not a sad song its angry. So do that what you will Oh and its "I've learned to lose (COMMA) you cant afford to.
According to her verified lyrics on genius, it's I've learned to lose you, can't afford to She also verified the copycat and idontwannabeyouanymore lyrics there so it seems accurate.
@@anarchyvixyn Oh, I've seen a few of those. I'm not disputing the meaning, just the comma placement. It doesn't change the overall meaning and anger in the song but it does change the meaning of that particular line. "I've learned to lose (comma) you can't afford to" is more saying I can deal with losing you. It's fine but YOU can't afford to lose me. Which is definitely angry. But "I've learned to lose you (comma) can't afford to." is more, I know you're going to leave because you always do. It's still going to hurt though so just leave already which fits better with the rest, particularly, "let me let you go."
@@meggsy82 And Vanessa McCoy: The exchange between you two is why I love the comment section more often than not. Perspectives I never would have thought of. Thank you two very much!
You're right about Taylor Momsen, The Pretty Reckless, they seem to write songs that are trying to emulate the idea of feeling depressed or idealizing dark thoughts. Their songs come off very disingenuous.
We go through horrible situations from a very young age most of us have unstable homes bc of how the world works with money now it's one of the main factors in fights , school is nightmare resolves in horrible friendships , relationships + the freaking ugly teachers now they don't have a drop of love for students but sometimes i can see why 🙂 and don't get me start with jobs and bosses 🤐. Overall we go through it .
Every time I hear her sing this song I get goosebumps bcuz her voice is so damn beautiful. There's another song that I really like it's called "Wish you were gay" she does like soft belting and it's soooo breath taking. I think Finneas has really great music as well shit their whole family is great. They are some of the most humble human beings to ever exist
"Call me friend, but keep me closer" I think relates to the proverb "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer". I agree that it's about toxic relationships, and emotional vampires who love but also hurt.
The lyric on genius (verified by Billie) is I've learned to lose you, can't afford to. That's also the way it's broken down when you listen to the album in an app like Amazon Music. The placement of the comma completely changes the meaning of the words. genius.com/Billie-eilish-when-the-partys-over-lyrics
As a young person i can tell you that yes, these emotions do in fact effect us, i was diagnosed with depression at 15 years old i've been medicated for it for 2 years now i'm only 17.
Holy fuck. The first time I heard this song - I also was like "how did she know about stuff like that, that young". Yeah - this is one of the most emotional songs I ever heard
Dare to venture into new territory with Billie to see her capabilities as a truly amazing all-round ARTIST that she really is.. take a little detour on your journey away from her own songs and react to Billie Eilish's rendition of Rob Dickinson's The End Of The World (BBC Radio 1 Piano Sessions) with her super-talented brother Finneas... may or may not evoke as we are, in the end, each drawn by our own feelings...
Love your reaction. And Sporto you cracked me up this time. Here’s the video where Billie talks about the song (Finneas wrote it when he was 19), and the making of the video (all Billie’s idea and execution): ua-cam.com/video/TcWawz9tX2g/v-deo.html
It is about depression
Darwin Hernandez you could also take it that way, sure, but the mv and the lyrics were written about a toxic relationship.
And the liquid is not a cgi effect, it's real
Her songs can mean anything for anyone... she has said that. It means what ever it needs to mean to you. Which is absolutely beautiful

Very true. Every generation cohort (gen x, gen y, gen z) has been getting depression earlier and earlier in life.
I did too when I was young .. but I didn't understand those feelings like that until I was older.
That would be an awesome reaction video
So it seems it is a shared catharsis. She is being uplifted in knowing she is also helping uplift others. Now, If you'll excuse me, I've gotta get back to listening to a particular Led Zepplin song... =]
She's absolutely an old soul. I agree.
Or Sara Bareilles - Gravity ... another one of those "please let me go" songs. Ouch...
Yessss i love panic!
That whole trilogy is awesome. Especially when you consider the time between each. Very visionary.
They so did to a panic song but wayyy too many to choose from. ❤❤❤
React to her brother next: Finneas- I Lost a Friend
Yeeees, PLEASE, he is also so interesting to hear
Yeeeees!!! They need to react to Finneas too; I lost a friend and break my heart again
Shelter is a banger though.
Let’s fall in love is my favorite from
Him
Yes please!
Magne Modi exactly how I felt when I heard her. Way beyond her years.
They said it on awards " we wrote an album about depression, suicide and global warming"
Kids of their generation have grown up with social media and are constantly bombarded with every kind of emotion . Finneas and Billie both have suffered depression
Their mother taught them when they were younger the way to write songs and get emotion and feelings to come thru.
You need to react to Finneas, majorly talented producer and song writer
Billie has condition called Synesthesia is a condition in which one sense (for example, hearing) is simultaneously perceived as if by one or more additional senses such as sight. Another form of synesthesia joins objects such as letters, shapes, numbers or people's names with a sensory perception such as smell, color or flavor. So I feel that allows her to really translate the lyrics
Finneas also has synesthesia
What the actual f is that a "condition" (!?)
@@redraw3401 I just saw in interview. She feels an emotion and it is related to color, number and smell. The opening of her album release she had separate rooms for each song. Temperature, color, texture, sound, everything was related to how the song made her feel or experience. She wanted to share it with her fans
@@redraw3401 Ircyrallyvdeoebds. If your an artist or musician it may be a bonus. Not so much if you want to be an air traffic controller, etc.
I don't think this is like the name of the thing but yeah I didn't know that she was , now I can see how she makes such perfect songs ...
I'm huge Billie's fan and was looking forward for another reaction of her. Would like to see your reaction on her track called Hostage.
YES
Hostages is such an underrated song!
love that song
Actually my favorite song of hers
“thats your kinda girl” chile she like 17
U should react to Xanny by Billie and also All The Good Girls Go To Hell
Agreed but the live version of All The Good Girls Go To Hell that she did on Howard Stern is possibly better than the original.
megan shewmake yeah that’s a good version
megan shewmake yes!!
This song seems to kick everyone in the gut. One of the best is a priest from London I believe. It’s actually one of her most viewed reaction. He said this video made him more emotional than any video he’s ever seen. I should watch it.
Yes, that's Rev. Chris, his reaction was so heartfelt and sweet 🥰
@@sabrinawhatever8509 yeah! Isn't the page called Jolly??
@@shannonslack4448 it is 😊
You should! His reaction is so emotional that it will make *you* emotional. He actually reacts to a lot of Billie's videos and he really like *understands* what she is and isn't saying better than anyone I've ever seen or met. Worth watching him.
LOL almost 16 million views on 5/27/21
Listen to her cover of Michael Jackson's "Bad". Fantastic!!!
Best cover EVER done by any artist! So Billie! 💚💚💚
Yaaasss
react to The End of the World cover by Billie Eilish. she changed the tone of the entire song. she did the same for her Michael Jackson's Bad cover
I love it!!
Can you react to "Idontwannabeyouanymore" "Party favor" or "Hostage" those songs are from her EP "Don't smile at me" is soooooo awesome
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. "Call me friend but keep me closer". Brilliant.
I wish you'll do a video with an other Billie's track called hostage
Huge fan love your convos and reactions
I agree the banter is what drew me to your channel and also that y'all are real and don't bullshit.
Thanks very much
The spider-eating-while-sleeping thing was debunked, but it's still fun to talk about lol
actually it was one of the first internet myths, started intentionally to show how people don't check sources
Finneas wrote this song for Billie. And they have both said it's not a sad song its angry. So do that what you will
Oh and its
"I've learned to lose (COMMA) you cant afford to.
According to her verified lyrics on genius, it's
I've learned to lose you, can't afford to
She also verified the copycat and idontwannabeyouanymore lyrics there so it seems accurate.
@@meggsy82 she did an interview 2 years ago where she explained it. Ipp see if I can find it
@@anarchyvixyn Oh, I've seen a few of those.
React to Hostage from Billie please
The Pretty Reckless singer is Taylor Momsen, you should react to some of their music :)
I think she's a better actress than singer
You're right about Taylor Momsen, The Pretty Reckless, they seem to write songs that are trying to emulate the idea of feeling depressed or idealizing dark thoughts. Their songs come off very disingenuous.
You said it better than I did. Thank you very much for your comment!
When the party is over is my n*1 favorite yet if this shocked you and affected you react to ‘I love you’ and get your tissues ready!!
Billie Eilish has "When the Party's Over"
Bieber has "Yummy"
Who is the artist here?
Beiber songs is supposed to show how young musicians are abused in the industry
funfact: billie eilish is actually a huge bieber fan lol
Every time I hear her sing this song I get goosebumps bcuz her voice is so damn beautiful. There's another song that I really like it's called "Wish you were gay" she does like soft belting and it's soooo breath taking. I think Finneas has really great music as well shit their whole family is great. They are some of the most humble human beings to ever exist
"Call me friend, but keep me closer" I think relates to the proverb "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer". I agree that it's about toxic relationships, and emotional vampires who love but also hurt.
The line is
"I've learned to lose,
You can't afford to."
I don't know why everyone butchers that part...
The lyric on genius (verified by Billie) is
I've learned to lose you, can't afford to.
That's also the way it's broken down when you listen to the album in an app like Amazon Music. The placement of the comma completely changes the meaning of the words.
genius.com/Billie-eilish-when-the-partys-over-lyrics
Even if it is wrong butchers is a little strong... it’s exactly the same words just a different placement of the end of the line haha
Calm down fan girl
Hah speaking of butchering it, your comma is wrong
As a young person i can tell you that yes, these emotions do in fact effect us, i was diagnosed with depression at 15 years old i've been medicated for it for 2 years now i'm only 17.
Holy fuck. The first time I heard this song - I also was like "how did she know about stuff like that, that young".
Yeah - this is one of the most emotional songs I ever heard
The Villagers In Minecraft - 5:24
Pls react to "the end of the world" her cover
