What is the reason for blowing air into sand form?

They are injecting CO2 into the sand as this reacts with the binder to solidify the sand.

These guys work hard. Their boss should give them at least some shoes. Safety gear would be great too,but at least shoes.

A great job, congratulations. Unfortunately in iron smelting the usual air pollution and zero safety measures!

Although in this case the casting is acceptable to the customer, the quality of it could be vastly improved if the mould was kept clean as it was built up. The amount of loose sand allowed to just remain in the mould was shocking, and would add to the amount of holes seen in the machined casting. Apart from that it was a decent job under the conditions.

It is special type of sand and then wax are mixed into it and after shape it they made small holes in it and pass CO2 gas inside it. Then it get hard like a rock

Sodium silicate is added to the sand. It reacts with the CO2 to form Silica and Sodium carbonate. hth
