The original adaptation with the Charles Dutton, Alfre Woodard, and Courtney B. Vance set the bar for me. Dutton is very underrated. His series, “Rock” was outstanding.
The first thing I did was look at the time we would have you 😊 I am in such a state after this election, that only things on UA-cam I can listen to are Rumi quotes and Joseph and Nick. Thank you and I see another premiere coming!❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I think Denzel's perfermance in Fences was also "OTT". The difference is that Denzel is a much better actor and can pull off an "over the top" performance, whereas JD's "over the top" comes off as a bit crunchy.
Your opinions on the nuances this narrative takes gives many different ways in which I would now view it watching it, which is certainly a plus point from a helpful review! Nevertheless, Samuel Jackson's 'moustache' seems to be a character too, Joseph's noting that is a 😅than the 'haunting'😉☺
I TOTALLY agree. Joseph got this so right. That Cissy Houston clip knocked me out. The "club" is a juke joint! LOL I saw it at Chicago International film fest a couple weeks ago and I enjoyed it enough but compared to movies like Conclave or Anora .it seemed like light fare. ..
I watched the play on Broadway last year with Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, Ray Fisher, and Danielle Brooks. I guess Danielle wasn't available for the movie. They all play the same characters as in the movie. In the play, JDW was also over the top. Ray Fisher was my favorite; he was so funny.
I liked this film more than you guys did. Maybe not knowing the play before I saw it helped some. I got the opportunity to see this and 4 other films at the Middleburg Film Festival here I. Northern Va. I felt that while some parts were overacted everyone got their time to shine in their parts. I also assumed that he was not buying the land and was striking out on his own.
I felt like this was the best I’d seen JDW (but maybe cuz it was reminding me of his father 😂) - I enjoyed all the performances but tonally it was all over the place. I think Malcolm has potential as a director but this was too big of a task for his debut.
So they just holding on to trauma instead of selling that heirloom, getting money, getting their own plot of land and starting over? Like seriously start over if it's actually an option. Let trauma go .but black folk we hold on to trauma like it's cute
I really don't care for JDW as an actor. He was kinda cringe in Tenant and I don't find him charismatic at all. I hate saying that but that's my truth. 😂
I saw the play with Washington he was the worse performer, hands down. OTT indeed. He grated my nerves. I’m not surprised his performance of this interpretation of the story, is not good.
I'm tired of these nepo babies to an extent. None of them wanted to be a veterinarian or an astronaut or a teacher😂😂😂 like why must yall permeate and ruin the ent industry

You should check out James Earl Jones' performance in Fences.
@@ChristianMartin-s2zSpectacular performance ❤
There definitely needs to be more black ghost stories in cinemas, it just makes so much sense
I was waiting for this review! I’m looking forward to this film. Great review as always guys !
Another review to lift my spirits!
I'm always rooting for John David Washington, I think he's such a great actor!!

*Checking in early, I also can't wait to hear your review on **#Queer**!!* 🎬
Sounds to me that Erykah Badu singing a couple of songs might be the best part of this film

Not a TOURING production. lol

I’m sorry but I haven’t found a movie that I actually like with John David in😂
Is the Washington family destroying August's legacy? hmm
Huh? Fences was excellent.
